Red Yeast Rice works...I started Red Yeast Rice 6-7 years ago to lower my borderline Cholesterol. It worked and lowered my cholesterol for 1-2 years. BUT Warnings about having the same side effects as statins worried me and I stopped RYR and the cholesterol levels increased again. I never started anything else and cholesterol levels stayed up. Further researched proved that all of these statin-li...

I am a Swedish woman desperately looking for help. I have diabetes type 2 and high cholesterol. My doctor is angry with me for not taking statins. I got very sick using Lipitor so I stopped taking them and tried a Swedish product containing RYR. After a month I have got horrible sideeffects, just like in any statin. I have developed tingling, like vibrations, sensations in my body, mostly in my feet and legs and its driving me crazy. I have also developed anxiety, depression, fatigue, dizziness, stumbling, pain etc etc I have stopped taking RYR since about 4 month ago but the sideeffects are the same. I want to come in contact with people with the same problem and hopefully someone who got rid of the problems. How long did it take? I cant cope with this much longer:( Is there anyway to get contact with people here? If not, I want to send out a warning. Not everybody tolerates RYR, it contains statins like Lovastatin or MevacoreRead More Read Less

When I was unable to tolerate stating drugs my doctor recommended red yeast rice. After taking it a for over two months I am experiencing the same side effects as statin drugs! Legs ache so bad it hurts to walk. Arms and neck pain as bad. I will stop taking today and take my chances with high cholesterol which I have had all my life and I am a retired senior.

I took 1200 mg RYR at bedtime for one month. During this time I developed severe leg cramps. I also had stomach cramps and I developed a rash on my face. Fatigue followed. I stopped taking it and all symptoms went away. I did not know about the possible side effects until just prior to discontinuing the supplement. I was attributing the problems to my diet and exercise regimen. It turned out to be the RYR. I was not able to tolerate it long enough to have my cholesterol rechecked. I used Nature's Bounty from Walgreens.Read More Read Less

I heard so many wonder about RYR, but it didn't work quite well or the way I expected for me. I have taken it for 2 months (2400mg a day), My ldl was 157 and only dropped to 146. 11 points only. Besides, I have been taking fish oil at the same time and for a year long, I think fish oil did the trick rather than RYR. My triglycerides wad down 137 points .. I don't think RYR affected that.

I really wanted this to work but after I took the first pill (from a reputable Health food store) I experienced nausea and vomiting, and diarrhea for 12 straight hours. Three days later I took another one with the same results-miserable outcome! Evidently I am one of those that is allergic to red yeast rice.

Works very well in reducing cholesterol. BRAND maters! I have found one that works and have used others that don't. Stay away from Costco brand, and other no name brands. Solaray works every time. I am not affiliated with them or have any interest in the company. I have been using their product for years and take 1- 600 mg at bedtime.
