Red Yeast Rice works...I started Red Yeast Rice 6-7 years ago to lower my borderline Cholesterol. It worked and lowered my cholesterol for 1-2 years. BUT Warnings about having the same side effects as statins worried me and I stopped RYR and the cholesterol levels increased again. I never started anything else and cholesterol levels stayed up. Further researched proved that all of these statin-li...

I take the now Red Yeast Rice 1200mg TABLETS. No other supplement (even Now's other Red Yeast Rice supplements) did not work for me. I think it is the way the product is packed into a tablet that make it work so well. My readings were well over 300 and statins would only bring it down 10% or so. My reading are now between 190-215. I can only take one tablet a day. Anymore makes (ME) feel weak.

My doctor recommended taking Red Yeast Rice supplements over a year ago for high cholesterol. This past four months, she had me increase dose to 2400 mg (4 tablets) daily. Two weeks ago, I had my first severe case of gout (hopefully last). Also, my triglycerides and blood sugar had increased during last lab results to a dangerous level. After reading about causes associated with gout and some comments regarding side effects of Red Yeast Rice supplements, have decided that I would no longer take it.Read More Read Less

My cholesterol was in the 210-250 range and had been elevated for years, but due to no other issues was never medicated. I've taken RRY and had great success, but initially took 2400 mg a day as recommended. I had locked fingers so stopped. Re-started w/ 1/2 dose (amt recommended by sister's doc) w/CQ10. Cholesterol is now 159 and no side effects. My doc is very happy w/ result.

My cholesterol levels were in the mid 300s and I had a TIA. But since moderating my animal fats slightly, and taking Red Yeast Rice, my flushing, high BP and tiredness have abated to an extent. But this was not the magic pill to solve the problem. It helped. But not without some effort by my own actions.

I've been taking red yeast rice for years and it has lowered my cholesterol from 243 to 195. I have no muscle pains because I take ryr with CoQ10. I have read other reviews and it seems that the ones having trouble are not taking ryr with the CoQ10. you can get them in the same pill.

600 mg extended red yeast rice dropped wife cholesterol 260 total HDL 85 to 185 HDL 75 in 2 months. So I started 210 HDL 45 dropped within a month to now after 8 years 170 total and HDL 55. Also take daily with CQ10 200 mg. RYR varies in lavostatin and must study up which is best as they vary from .25 to 20 in Lovastatins. Natures Plus, not noted but Core Lab tested

After taking RYR for one month, my insides began to itch. I forces myself to continue for another month, thinking that the issue would subside once my body became accustomed. At the end of the second month my colon itched so intensely I could not stand it, so I stopped taking the RYR. It took a full MONTH for the itching to subside.

BUT Warnings about having the same side effects as statins worried me and I stopped RYR and the cholesterol levels increased again. I never started anything else and cholesterol levels stayed up. Further researched proved that all of these statin-like foods/supplements/drugs reduce the CoQ10 and CoQ10 supplementation is mandatory..(actually CoQ10 supplement should be taken by everyone, regardless..)...I restarted RYR today and increased my daily CoQ10 also and I will keep you posted..Read More Read Less

I have been taking RYR for several months. I have noticed that whenever it was taken before retiring for the night and taken with other drugs on an empty stomach that I would wake up with headache and broken blood vessels in my arms. I had the same trouble with statin drugs. i stopped taking it with aspirin and other drugs. Its been about four months since I started taking months since I hav taking 1200 units of red yeast rice, I am concerned about the liver side effects because of my fatty liver and gall bladder removal last year.Read More Read Less

I started taking red yeast rice caps six weeks ago at 2 x 600mg a day but got bad pains in legs and wrist just like statins, I manage to take 600mg every other day with coQ10 which helps the pains a bit & helps lower my blood pressure. My doc did cholestrol blood test and said it had returned to normal 3.8. RYR seems to work although it cost a fair amount money.

Works Too many side effects for me. RYR taken to lower my cholesterol -it worked dropped from 250 to 158 but the muscle pain in the legs and shoulders and tingling in my hands and feet is not a good trade. I also experienced some dizzy spells and vision issues, but the worse effect is lack of energy and ambition. I took 600MG once a day for over 2 years before I figured out the side effect link to RYR. I have now stopped for 3 weeks, dizzy spells and vision spells have stopped, foot pain much better, still weak and sore but feeling better. Use caution with Red yeast Rice.Read More Read Less

My triglycerides and hdl are normal for the first time in 15 yrs. Ldl still high but better. No muscle issues but disappointed to find out that it can cause liver damage. Will get liver profile at next appt and see how that's going. Will miss my occasional glass of wine.

For all that are waiting for the pain to go away and worried it wont I can say that it did for me. I only took it for a few days and I got the thigh pains. It was obvious it was from them and I didn't even know pains could happen from it or statins. (This was quite a long time ago). It took a week and it left and no I wont take that crap.

My doctor advised I take these pills (1800 MG per day) because statins caused muscle aches. Being cautious, I took only one 600 MG pill per day for three days. I have had horrible side effects. After only these three pills, I have aches and pains so bad I have had trouble even walking. I have also had trouble sleeping, which I never had before. I am normally fit and healthy with no health problems except this high cholesterol the doctor makes such a fuss about. I would rather take my chances with high cholesterol than poison myself with these pills. It has been a week and I still have the aches and pains, especially in my legs. I only hope they go away eventually. I returned them to the store but I think they were named Nature's Bounty. Read More Read Less
