I was diagnosed with insulin resistance, as my fasting sugar was 135. My doctor prescribed a statin drug to help with my triglycerides, which were around 280. I bought a meter to check my own glucose levels, and even after a change in diet and exercise, I noted the the fasting levels climbing higher. I went off the statin and a man I work with told me about bitter melon. By the third day of tak...

I've been eating bitter melon in the dish Champuru for 7+ years. I don't know about any health benefits, but I have stomach problems and there are times when it's all I can eat. I've heard it's a superfood. I'd rather have the Indian version as it's much more bitter (and pointy). It's an acquired taste I think, the first few times I had it it was very bitter. Now it's just yummy.

Beware of purchasing Dr. Kellyann’s lemon sips. It contains 40 mg. of SOD B melon extract. When I used it, it gave me heart palpitations (with less than half a scoop!). Nowhere on the jar does it tell you that this is a stimulant.

I took a half tsp of bitter melon powder twice a day, gave me heart palpitations and stomach pain... I read that this stuff can cause Afib or even a heart attack, so even if unlikely, this stuff is too scary for me. I know it DOES work well to lower A1c... but the risk is too much for me.

Bitter Melon works better for me to lower my blood sugar when I slice it, remove the seeds and eat it raw in slices or strips. I eat it about 3 times a day, about 8 slices at a time. It seems to at least drop my blood sugar 20-30 pts at a time. It's just cumbersome to prepare to remove the seeds. It really doesn't taste too bad after you get used to eating it. I also juiced it and it did not work as well for me.

This product has reduced my diabetes numbers and I am not on any diabetes medication. I am trying to find out if I can continue to take this due to stage 3 kidney disease from my diabetes.

The "Dawn phenomenon" problem of having acceptable glucose levels daily, but waking to nearly doubled glucose, was not helped by following doctor advice to have a light meal at bedtime. Bitter melon at bedtime is reducing from 180 to 140. It was 200 until adopting intermittent fasting, skipping evening food, forcing the liver to crank up and burn fat, to get DP down to 170-180. Both approaches combined to cut a total of 60 by morning. I sleep more soundly, and am regularly dropping 2 pounds a week. Read More Read Less

It has lowered or eliminated the symptoms of pre-diabetes; frequent urination, very dry mouth, foot tingling, etc.

I had pre-diabetes with 6.1 A1C and 107 fasting blood sugar. After two years of eating a small piece of bitter melon fruit with each meal my AIC is 5.5 and fasting blood sugar is 98. Steady decline for both numbers over time. I buy the fruit at a Chinese grocery store. Cut it length wise into halves, scrape out the seeds, slice it into small pieces about 1/4 inch thick, microwave it for about 3 minutes (three medium size fruit)with some water in bowl. Spread it onto plates and place in freezer. When frozen, put in freezer zip lock bags and retrieve from freezer when time to eat. Not very tasty, but if frozen it is tolerable. Its a miracle food for me.Read More Read Less

If I eat a high carbohydrate meal, my glucose levels tend to creep up. I just watch my carbs and exercise. I totally believe in this remedy.Read More Read Less

I started taken Bitter Gourd when I was diagnosed with Diabetes (March 2015). My Glucose was 562 and my a1c was >8. I was put on a sliding scale, whereas clucose lever over 120, I would have to take insulin. Since the beginning of taking Bitter Gourd, my Glucose has gradually gone down to less than 120 (where I do not have to take insulin). My last visit to the doctor in July he checked my a1c. He had his assistant call me with the results, she told me that my a1c was normal and the doctor said on my next visit if it is still normal, I will not have to take the metformin either.Read More Read Less

I have been on metaform tablets for 2 years now after being diagnosed as a diabetic when I suffered a heart attack.I am not on insulin. 8 months ago I suffered balanitis It used to come regularly every approx 12 hrs.My penis was very red & sore & had white things on it.The doctor prescribed tablets & anti fungal cream that seemed to have no effect whatsoever Approximately 1 month ago at a supermarket I bought & ate some bitter melon fruit. Not knowing it had any benefits?I then read about it being beneficial for diabetes. The pain seemed to go away so I told my family about it & didnt worry about it anymore. However after three days the balanitis came back!!!I went back to the doctor three months later asked if he could prescribe different tablets & cream. He prescribed the same tablets as before & sent me to a specialist who suggested I have a circumcision This scared the daylights out of me.But I remembered that the bitter melon i had taken 4 weeks prior seemed to nullify my pain considerably! What happens if I buy more So i went back to the shop & bought two fruits. After consuming these fruits over 4 days I noticed my pain had gone completely. The redness had disappeared there were no lumps.I am mixing these fruits now with other fruits eg apples watermelon tomatoes oranges etc because the taste is better.I am only eating the skin of the fruit.I thoroghly beleive this has completely cured me in 4 days & will continue take daily from now on? Who knows it may have also cured or helped cure my diabetes I am going back to the doctor for further blood tests in approx two weeks. The doctor did say he beleived the balanitis came from my diabetes & as it hadnt cured recommended a circumcision.Read More Read Less

My sugar went from 195 to 135 in 1/2 hour. It lowers my sugar and I've lost weight and stopped my meteor in. Metformin may have caused my hand neuropathy after 27 years of use.
