The "official" review on this site is ludicrous. As one other consumer mentioned, the reason that there is so little research, etc. is that no one stands to make billions of dollars from patenting it and selling it for 100x the cost to produce it. I can tell you based upon my 5 years of experience with betaine HCL that it is perfectly safe (as long as you do not have ulcers of any kind). Fu...

I had a very violent reaction with vomiting after taking two capsules until it was out of my stomach. This treatment is not FDA approved.

I have serious difficulty digesting red meat. Following a dinner including red meat, I used to wake up in the middle of the night with a very painful burning sensation in my esophagus (commonly called 'heartburn'. Now I usually take one betaine/HCL capsule (or sometimes two) during or following a red meat meal, to significantly boost my stomach acid level, and NEVER have the burning sensation in my esophagus. I also take one or two betaine capsules after I've had a couple of glasses of wine or a couple of beers, to quickly settle my stomach. I happily threw away all the anti-acid tablets I took for years that blocked the absorption of food nutrients.Read More Read Less

I was diagnosed with asthma, reflux, and gallstones, and constantly had post-nasal drip, runny nose, and chest congestion. Started taking Betaine HCl and some additional digestive enzymes at every meal and my sinus symptoms disappeared in about 48 hours. Not exaggerating! Now I know that it was not having high enough acidity levels in my stomach that was causing the reflux, and improper digestion that caused the gallstones. Wish someone would tell the established medical community that not all reflux symptoms should be treated with PPIs and other antacids. After 8 weeks, I'm now not taking any other meds except for the asthma inhaler and hoping to be weaned off that soon. I feel 'normal' again. Amazing stuff! Why aren't there any medical studies done on this anymore? Only ones I could find were pre 1970s. Betaine HCl works for me and I'm very thankful I found it.Read More Read Less

I had canker sores break out on the sides of my tongue and upper lip constantly for about a year without any relief and no known cure. After trying several different things I went to my chiropracter. He asked me about stomach problems and I told him I had none, but after testing me he put me on Betaine Hydrochloride and immediately I could feel a difference. So far I have not had any come back. WHAT A RELIEF!!!

My dentist referred me to a nutritionist when he realized my blood type was A+ and, as a bariatric patient (gastric sleeve) was having a difficult time digesting much needed protein and was also having problems with constipation. Within a day I noticed a difference. No more gurgling or churning in my stomach after my small protein-laden meals. Bowel habits returned to normal within 2 days.

I suffered from acid reflux for years, doctors had always prescribed things like prilosec, nexium, some other kind of proton pump inhibitors. The medications had always helped in the begining but then created extra problems, like the feeling my food wasnt digested...And thats exactly what was happening. By taking proton pump inhibitors your stomachs acid production get shut off, no acid so no acid reflux. The problem is our body needs the acid to break down the food we put in it, and without that we wont get the nurishment from the food. When you dont have enough stomach acid, the food just sits there with your stomach acid laying on top and thats what causes the reflux. I was very sceptical at first, and honestly wouldnt have tried this if I wasnt so desperate. After a day of taking 1 HCL pill after each meal I felt amazing, and after a day or so I had no signs of acid reflux. Some drs who want to keep writing prescriptions would hate this review bc it pretty much says they may not necessarily helping after all. But so long at a person doesnt have an ulcer and the meds the dr prescribes really arent helping, I would say give this a try. Its a good alternative to the prescriptives and you will remember what it feels like to digest again.Read More Read Less
