When I lived in Vermont I grew two 75ft. rows of comfrey to give my animals in winter as tea. I had a goat who would get arthritis every winter & was in great pain (and his color would fade & fur came out). I dried the comfrey & gave him a bucket of tea every day. He never had arthritis again & his fur never came out or spots fade again. ALSO I used it as a poultice when my husband stepped on a ...

For over a year I have been using a Comfrey based salve on my right knee almost every night. It greatly relieves the ache. It does not cure the arthritis.

I have used many different comfrey preparations externally over the years for many injuries and an on-going back condition involving a partial disc, sacralisation and inflammation of the fascia joints. I have found it very effective at decreasing pain, reducing inflammation and maintaining/regaining mobility. This includes after a broken ankle, severe whiplash and the normal knocks and bumps. As I am allergic to non steroidal anti-inflammatories and heat rubs it has been a lifesaver for me and somehow I manage to recover in half the time expected by medical professionals and retain a better range of movement than x-rays would suggest is possible.Read More Read Less

I had a huge bruise on my thigh from a fall...I made a comfrey paste and applied it to my bruise for about 8 hours. The top part of my thigh was hard to wrap..when I took the comfrey off, the swelling had gone down significantly and I could tell the bruise was much darker where the comfrey had not been placed. I will be keeping a bag of this on hand at àll times in my house :)

I cut my finger, deeply, with a knife. It was bleeding badly, and I knew it would require stiches. I was afraid to look at it, or I knew I'd faint, and I was alone. I grabbed my jar of comfrey powder and plunged my finger into it. Then applied pressure and wrapped tightly with bandaid. Almost no pain, and mostly healed in two days; healed completely in a week. No scar or stitches. One person who saw the cut evidenced amazement at the speed of recovery.

I had a void area at the nail bed of my middle finger, right hand. Joint lubricant was leaking into the void area, swelling to a painful point that prevented sleep.

I'm using a manufactured comfrey cream. So far, about 6 weeks as needed. I have permanent nerve damage-postherpatic neurology upper back, shoulders, neck, and down right arm to fingers. I was surprised when the cream actually backed off the pain substantially - to the point where I could function free from "pain-stress." The cream is very expensive though, so, sadly, I use it sparingly. Otherwise - I'd use it twice daily. The pain relief lasts about 6 hours. So far, no side effects.

Have severe pain in upper arms like I have a B/P cuff on, inflated to highest setting. After applying this under plastic wrap, the pain was gone within minutes! Very surprised how quickly it works!

On a cold day over Thanksgiving, I squashed the tip and first joint of my left ring finger between two cement blocks. I had a lot of pain, but, because my finger was cold, I didn't know that my finger was bleeding internally and causing a bruise until it had swelled a great deal and the skin felt and looked taut. When I purchased some arnica, the health store clerk also recommended a comfrey poultice. It sounded easy to do, so I decided to try it. I bought a small bag of the dried herb from the health food store. At home, I soaked a tablespoon of the dried leaves in a small quantity of boiling water in dish. After about 5 minutes, the leaves were soft and there was a small amount of comfrey tea, the liquid. I doubled a small piece of flannel rag and put about a teaspoon of the leaves into the middle and spread them out to a size that would go around the tip of my finger. I also added some of the liquid to soak the rag. Then I wrapped the poultice around my finger, put my hand on top of a towel, and forgot about it while I watched TV for about an hour. After one treatment, I thought it looked better but it didn't seem possible. I rubbed some arnica cream on it for good measure. After continuing the treatment once a day--comfrey & arnica--for less than a week, the bruise was mostly gone! Immediately after each comfrey treatment, my finger looked better. I didn't know that comfrey could also help the bone bruise. If I had, I would have continued the treatment after the visible bruise was gone. The pain of the bone bruise lasted for several weeks. I have never healed so quickly from a bruise, especially a bruise this severe. It was amazing! I have used arnica for small bruises before with good results, but never on a bruise this severe. I highly recommend trying a comfrey poultice (with arnica, if you like) for a severe bruise.Read More Read Less
