I am back to report that I did find lysine to be more effective and much less expensive than valtrex. I took 3000-4000mg at signs of outbreak for 7-10 days to prevent the outbreak, but what was really my problem was Diet, I found a website that was clear on the foods that was causing me to have frequent outbreaks eventhough lysine was clearing it up faster but they were frequent because I was eat...

I took 3000mg (3 capsules) on Thursaday, then 1 on the Friday (following the "tingle") on Friday afternoon my face starting burning, swelling up unevenly, with a arash. By Saturday I had rash on my arms (inner elbow down to wrist) on my neck and chest. My eyes seemed to become small as did my lips. Sunday (today) my face is enormous and very uncomfortable

Taken for preventative therapy. After one bottle taken, I have not had an outbreak since summer of 2012.

I've used Lysine for a number of years, taken orally the moment an outbreak of a cold sore is noticed. Lysine stops the cold sore from developing. I no longer use anything else. It has saved me a lot of painful, troublesome and unsightly cold sores. Highly recommend it's use.

As soon as I feel a tingle, or even after one decides to show up, pop a couple lysine and it goes away. I have been getting cold sores for 15 years, nothing else has worked. $5 for a bottle of 250 pills. I have one at home, one in my car and one at my desk. Its an answered prayer.

I have use Lysine for the last 20 years. I take 6 tablets for 3 days which was prescribed by a health worker. I carry them in my handbag everyday so as soon as I feel a tingle I start taking them immediately. My coldsores are very infrequant now from using Lysine for this length of time.

After suffering with the Pompholyx variety of excema on hands and feet for seven months and going the medical and naturopathic routes for treatment without improvement, I was desperate. The pharmacist dispensing my prescription ointment, Diprosone-OV suggested a heavy dose of about 3X500mg (1500mg) three times per day for a week to see if it would have an effect. In FOUR (4) days the improvement on my hands and feet was obvious. Unbelievable in fact. At the end of the week I reduced the dosage to 2X500mg (1000mg) three times a day (use your own judgement) and now after two weeks I have reduced to 1X500mg three times a day. The blistering, drying, splitting, shedding condition has gone completely and my body is busy replacing the scarred, thickened skin. I didn't kiss the Pharmicist, but he appreciated my heart-felt thanks and useful feed-back. IT WORKS. Why didn't my doctor or naturopath tell me about L-lysine? Because it's too cheap and easy. At first sign or 'tingle' start treatment at high dose (2 tabs immediately), double the recommended dose until you're sure it's gone away. Ensure you are also taking a Multi B also(predominantly for the B12), again take a double dose initially, then twice a day for 3-4 days until you're sure you've warded off the cold sore (before it breaks out). I usually have a borocca too for the vitamin c and zinc to boost my immune system. If you are vegetarian ensure you are taking a multi B daily or recurrences will be regular! I havn't had a cold sore in over 5 years - despite the occasional twinges (usually during periods of stress, particularly near my monthly cycle or because of a lowered immune system due to colds etc). Hope it works for you too!Read More Read Less

Lysine works very good to neutralize the acid in cold sores. As soon as I start getting a sore in my mouth or on my lps, I take Lysine before I go to bed, and the beginning sore is often gone overnight. I have a friend whose husband had problems with cold sores all his life, with nothing working. I told her about Lysine, and she told me that Lysine was the only thing that worked to get completely rid of her husband's cold sore problem. I just read a warning on WebMD about taking too much daily Lysine for a long period of time. Please check that out. But in the short term, Lysine is very effective in eliminating cold sores in our mouth, or on our lips. Sometimes may take a few days to disappear.Read More Read Less

I have been getting coldsores since a child, and I get more and more embarrassed with everyone. However, I get an outbreak when I am over stressed; which unfortunately is a lot right now. I take lysine at a bigger doses then instructed, but it works faster. I also use a peppermint tea bag on the sores right away, and sleep with a lysine/hydrogen peroxide paste on too. So far I have noticed once the swelling goes down it heals pretty quickly like 3-4 days.

I do think Lysine has been very helpful with cold sores. I am in my upper 30's and have been getting cold sores since I was a little kid, the unfortunate victim of a kissy family. But no more! Llysine has done wonders if I take it at first tingle. Another tip ... Desitin (diaper rash cream). Sounds weird, but what does a cold sore look like? A small blistery rash, right? Well, if I see any redness on my lip at all, I just keep reapplying Desitine. I don't leave it on as a thick white mess. I rub it in so I can still go out in public. And that cold sore never developes. Any cold sore sufferer knows that any product is worth a try to avoid the embarrassment of a disgusting cold sore. Good Luck!Read More Read Less

I have suffered from Shingles pain for over 2 months after the rash healed. My son told me about Lysine and I began taking one 1000 mg twice a day. After almost 2 weeks, the pain (extremely sensitive skin and burning sensation) has been reduced to almost nothing.

My adult son had numerous warts, larger than the size of peas, all over his hands. He went to a doctor who recommended surgery and wanted to send him to a specialist because he would not dare to remove them himself. I told my son that lysine was good for viruses and that warts were caused by a virus. He took lysine for several weeks and the warts slowly disappeared and he never had a wart again.
