I am back to report that I did find lysine to be more effective and much less expensive than valtrex. I took 3000-4000mg at signs of outbreak for 7-10 days to prevent the outbreak, but what was really my problem was Diet, I found a website that was clear on the foods that was causing me to have frequent outbreaks eventhough lysine was clearing it up faster but they were frequent because I was eat...

I took 3000mg (3 capsules) on Thursaday, then 1 on the Friday (following the "tingle") on Friday afternoon my face starting burning, swelling up unevenly, with a arash. By Saturday I had rash on my arms (inner elbow down to wrist) on my neck and chest. My eyes seemed to become small as did my lips. Sunday (today) my face is enormous and very uncomfortable

I have suffered with huge cold sores since my teenage years. No one ever mentioned this to me until I was in my 40's. Lysine is the best treatment for cold sores in my case. I take from 3000-4000 mg. throughout the day as soon as I feel one coming on. 99% of the time It won't let it get big and painful. Cold sores will either go away or be tiny and go away within days, compared to the weeks it would normally take to heal. Definitely recommend it!

I have been suffering from cold sores ever since I can remember. After moving to CO I started getting them more frequently. Today I woke up to a major tingling lump on my upper lip. I stopped taking it because I have been pregnant but today I decided to pop 3500 mg of Lysine. Its only been a couple hours and I can already physically see the swollen area going down and feel relief. I will take some more through out the day and hopefully it wont blister or scab. That high of a dosage did cause some stomach cramping and I am feeling a little hyper but not jittery. I have a lot to do today anyway, ha! I may consider taking a low dose on an ongoing basis as some people have gone years sore free doing that.Read More Read Less

So I bought some Lysine two days ago, after a long-building, major size fever blister was about to erupt on my lower lip. This one had been building for awhile and was roughly the size of Rhode Island. After reading user reviews in this space, I took too 500 mg pills right away, then two more spread out through the day. Yesterday I again took two in the morning, another in the afternoon, and a fourth tablet in the evening. Happy to say the blister never erupted and has dramatically shrunk. I credit Lysine with turning this from a major weeklong outbreak to a couple day minimal bump that's dried up and is quickly going away. Not sure I would take it every day, but I plan to keep it around for use at the first sign of trouble. It was about 24 hours from first tingle to when I took the first pill. My sense is the outbreak would have been lesser still had I gotten that first dose earlier. Also applying Zovirax about 5 times a day, but that has never headed off a fever blister this well.Read More Read Less

I train for Ironman triathlons and my immune system gets worked over, so cold sore are always popping up. Then I started taking Lysine daily and haven't had one in approximately one year.

Lysine has been the best treatment I have found for cold sores. I strongly recommend it. I don't take it daily, only when I have a cold sore coming on. The side effect that seems to come with it is a series of jolting head stabs on the left side of my skull. Thankfully, these stabbing headaches don't last long. But they are unpleasant. So are cold sores.

I've had severe Eczema for years, taking a 1,000 mg supplement daily has in fact soothed the flare ups and cleared most of the rashes off of my face.

A friend told me about this years ago and i wasn't completely sure if it really worked until I stopped taking them. I'm a believer for sure. I haven't found anything else that actually prevents cold sores.

I found out about L-lysine from a friend about 30 plus years ago and have been taking it for that long - it for sure works for cold sores taking it everyday - can't seem to find anything bad about it - so will keep taking it just cut back to twice a week to see if it keeps working for me -- hopefully it will never cause health problems - being 62 years old now - so far so good -- its spring valley from Wal- mart but don't see it on this list ---- think it changed name from nature blend

When I first got one, they would pop up every other week! What a nightmare. I take 1000mg pretty much every day. It's easy to find in the drug store, relatively cheap, and I haven't had a real cold sore in almost two years. Whenever redness stars to pop up, I take 2000mg instead, and it's gone in a day.

I have had Herpes since I was 17 years old. I found Lysine about 20 years ago and take it daily. I have only 1 outbreak per year which lasts 4 days or so. Definitely makes a difference. When I am going on a trip or have something stressful coming up I will take an additional dose. Seems to prevent an outbreak. JFYI....I noticed a huge difference in the number of outbreaks when I stopped wearing any tight undergarment. Not sure why, but truly makes a difference.

I've had cold sours since I was a child. Usually triggered by stress, and exposure to sun, I 'zap' the virus with at least 1500 milligrams a day for several days, and nip it in the bud. I won't use anything else. I have experienced heart palpations before, which led to an anxiety attack. I can't confirm that it was the dosage of Lysine I was taking, or because it was around the holidays with my family, or a combination. But, if you're concerned about that, I wouldn't take more than 1000 a day. (2 tablets). The bottle prescribes 1/day.Read More Read Less

Originally purchased Super Lysine + for my husbands cold sore (at Whole Foods Market) he was so impressed with it in the "chapstick" form that when I replaced it with the tube version, I tried using it on a bad acne spot that had ruptured, just a dab and rubbed it in, next morning the sore area was much improved - dried out and far more healed than is usual without treatment. I have additionally used it on bug bites, grazes, and cuts. More recently my dog has had derma logic problems from flea bites (11 year old West Highland Terrier) I tried a dab on a small hot spot to see if there would be any negative reaction - none - the results were pretty much the same as with my skin, dried up and vastly improved. Best yet she does not try to lick it off and will even fall asleep right after administration - something she never does after "hot spot" treatments from the pet store.Read More Read Less

I have had this condition for about 9 years, and discovered the lysine pills about 5 years ago. They work great! I take 500 mg every morning for suppresion. Since the pills are so large i always take them with a thicker liquid like a smoothie or V8 juice, and that works awesome. The only time i ever feel an outbreak come on, is when i have forgotten to take the lysine. I highly reccomend this! Its such a lifesaver.

I started taking 1000mg of L-Lysine 2-3 times daily. When I have a herpes blister outbreak I take the vitamin 3 times a day with meals I've noticed since taking the vitamin that when having an outbreak it goes away within 3 days compared to the 7-10 it would usually take.

I use this to dry up my singles. This, in a paste and applied to the site, together with cayenne pepper capsules and the pain and duration will be significantly reduced.
