I am back to report that I did find lysine to be more effective and much less expensive than valtrex. I took 3000-4000mg at signs of outbreak for 7-10 days to prevent the outbreak, but what was really my problem was Diet, I found a website that was clear on the foods that was causing me to have frequent outbreaks eventhough lysine was clearing it up faster but they were frequent because I was eat...

I took 3000mg (3 capsules) on Thursaday, then 1 on the Friday (following the "tingle") on Friday afternoon my face starting burning, swelling up unevenly, with a arash. By Saturday I had rash on my arms (inner elbow down to wrist) on my neck and chest. My eyes seemed to become small as did my lips. Sunday (today) my face is enormous and very uncomfortable

I have had cold sores all my life. I recently found "Orajel Single Dose" treatments that work wonders.... But they are expensive for just 2 treatments ($20) I use both within 24 hours because we all know THEY SUCK! I heard about Lysine from my co-worker and I reallllyyyyy hope it works. I bought the 1000 mg tablets. Wish me luck!

I take 1000mg lysine 3x day at the first sign of a cold sore. Cold sore stops in its tracks and completely clears up within 1-2 days. Incredible results!

I am 79 and I have had the problem from as far back as I can remember. At first all we had was Campho phnique (misspelled and useless) Then there was an article in Readers Digest about L-Lysine. For several months or maybe a year no drug store had any, way too much demand. Then there was no instructions on how much to take. Since this wasn't studies by drug companies but trial and error by each person. Here is what I have found that works extremely well every time. First I have found that I have no problems with taking large doses, it just works quicker. ALWAYS have a bottle handy, speed is important. I keep a bottle at home, at my office, AND in my car. The MOMENT I feel one start, I take a dose. A DOSE is 6 of the 500 mg size pills. Put 1 on each side back on back teeth, crunch them up, almost no taste, makes them faster acting, drink lots of water. remember, 6 crunched up pills per dose. Within 15 minutes you no longer feel the blister. AGAIN the moment you feel the blister again, take another dose. It may be in an hour or two, BUT the moment you feel it, take another full dose. Go by the feel of the blister only. If you can feel it after 15 or 20 minutes, take another dose. When done this way, I can totally whip an attack, and no one else can even see where the blister was starting. There is nothing to heal, its over and all gone. If they are coming again and again, after I whip it I take 1 or 2 tablets morning and night. I think I could take 1 pill per day and would never have an attack, But I only take them when I feel them coming. After reading this and thinking of people I have told about it, somehow many don't take enough or often enough. They still say that it helped. Another thing, Some called them cold sores and canker sores. I don't know if it is the same problem but it seems that the same solution might work. I sure wish I could get some feedback but that is not the way it is set up. Good luck.Read More Read Less

I think this is the first review I may have ever written for anything. If you suffer from cold sores, BUY THIS. BUY IT NOW, DON'T HESITATE, GO. NOW. I can't believe after years of suffering I just discovered this. I get gigantic cold sores on my nose, maybe 2-3x a year. On average they take 10 days to two weeks to heal. It's traumatizing, putting it lightly. A huge monster cluster taking up my left nostril appeared, full swing, and I ran out and bought super lysine from whole foods. I'm on day 5 and it's basically gone. Yesterday, I was able to conceal the healing completely with makeup. The first and second day it appeared were the only two days I was horrified to look in the mirror. After that, each day I woke up and looked in the mirror, it was a relief. This is a life altering discovery. Read More Read Less

Years ago, I used lysine ointment on some blisters on my torso that I was concerned about leading to shingles. (I had heard or read, that lysine was effective against herpes.) The issue did not worsen and I attributed that to the lysine. Of course I cannot verify results being due to the treatment.

I was having cold sores at least once a month until I began taking lysine once a day and I haven't had another sore for the past 11 months.

Love this stuff. I take 500 mg several times a week and as long as I don't go more than 3 or 4 days without it I will stay cold sore free. Nothing else works at all for me. I had some recent surgery, had to stop it for 2 weeks. I came home from the hospital with 9 small cold sores. 2 on the top lip and two groups on the lower lip which spread into 2 huge patches on the lower lip and chin. Hope I never have to give L-Lysine for that long again!!!!!

IF, you can catch that first tingle! Grab the Lysine. Very important to go on the offense first! I nuke it, 6-8 thousand mg tablets. I don't recommend to others, but this knocks it out for me. I only use when I feel a cold sore coming on and/or combating one.

One 1000mg tablet daily to keep cold sores away. If I run out, I can feel the tingling of the cold sore when under stress or in the sun too long. Once I'm back on the lysine, gone again!

I began taking lysine supplements 5 months ago in hopes of curbing future cold sore outbreaks. I was taking 1 500mg capsule daily (since the tablets are huge, the capsule allowed me to open it and pour the powder into a smoothie or even plain water - as it doesn't taste bad or like anything at all), and I would take 2 each day/at the same time if I felt run-down from travel or other natural stressors on the body which typically can trigger a cold sore outbreak. Last week I felt the cold sore coming on anyway and I quickly took two 500mg capsules before any blisters appeared, and continued to take 1 500mg capsule every 4 hours - and also consuming only lysine-rich foods. Did not help a bit. I broke out in a full-on cold sore. Unfortunately, it wasn't even smaller or less painful than usual. I'm not sure why this didn't work for me, but thought I'd mention it so that others don't think it's 100% guaranteed. Hopefully it works for you though! :) Read More Read Less

I have had cold sores my whole life and nothing helped until I tried Lysine. I find if I take it even once or twice a week I don't even get cold sores, but if I do I just take extra for a few days and it is gone.

I had a long-standing problem with occasional pain in the tendons that are attached between my upper arm and my shoulder. This was particularly a problem when I lifted heavy objects. I was taking L-Lysine for cold sore treatment and happened to notice I didn't have any tendon pain. So, I started taking 500 mg of L-lysine/day. I haven't had the tendon pain again no matter what I lift.

I suffer from herpes and any stress or anxiety will bring on cold sores, not necessarily on my lips but on my face. Very annoying. Since I started taking Lysine its stopped, if I felt one coming on I would increase the dose.

I am 60 years old and have been plagued by cold sores all my life. At the very first sign of a cold sore...that tingling, burning sensation, I take 2 500mg caps every 4 hours for 1 day. Drink lots of fluids(water) and do not over exert yourself. That is it! It is stopped right in it's track. It never goes any further.

Sadly, I often get cold sores but if I start taking lysine pills as soon as I feel the tingle, I can stop them from developing. If I don't start them soon enough, the cold sore can develop but lysine shortens the time that it looks bad. I take two pills right away then two pills in another six hours. Depending on whether or not the cold sore is still coming I might cut back to one pill every six hours or so. Sometimes one spot will be gone right away but it pops up in another so I have to take enough and for long enough to stop them completely.Read More Read Less
