I am back to report that I did find lysine to be more effective and much less expensive than valtrex. I took 3000-4000mg at signs of outbreak for 7-10 days to prevent the outbreak, but what was really my problem was Diet, I found a website that was clear on the foods that was causing me to have frequent outbreaks eventhough lysine was clearing it up faster but they were frequent because I was eat...

I took 3000mg (3 capsules) on Thursaday, then 1 on the Friday (following the "tingle") on Friday afternoon my face starting burning, swelling up unevenly, with a arash. By Saturday I had rash on my arms (inner elbow down to wrist) on my neck and chest. My eyes seemed to become small as did my lips. Sunday (today) my face is enormous and very uncomfortable

Had a painful outbreak started on Sunday, purchased 1000 mg tabs, took one with each meal so 3000mg daily. By wednesday I had no pain, I was truly amazed, I only had 7 generic valtrex tabs and my money is low and no insurance. I can't believe it was better than the expensive meds. I was feeling fine after 1 week, but continued the dose for one more week to be safe it was cleared up. My previous outbreak lasted 6 weeks on rx drugs, that was the most horrible experience i ever had. I will use this as a daily controller at 1000mg day and hope that keeps it at bay. I feel great, I am very hopeful.Read More Read Less

I get cold sores during or after an illness or times of high stress. Lysine is the most effective treatment with no side effects except dry mouth. Does anyone know of a Lysine pill that isn't huge and chalky? Maybe a capsule?

Finally after 5 yrs of suffering I have found something that works for me. Can you imagine dreading using that bathroom because you know you will have to wipe? Well I know it is TMI but this last outbreak has been going on for 6wks until I started taking Lysine. Within 10 days of 3000grms I am healing nicely. I also purchased TriDerma from Walgreens which works great with slow healing sores. 2 days max....and no burning with application. It is hard dealing with the herpes virus because like a pimple it strikes when you least expect and stays for a while. There is also a product from Forces of Nature website that is extremely strong and effective but doesn't feel the best going on... the discomfort (not pain) only lasts for a hour but anything you had is guaranteed to be dried, burned and destroyed. Have had hsv2 for 30 yrs., my outbreaks are infrequent, this time it's been two years, but, I've gone 5 years without an outbreak. However, my last two outbreaks were terrible, very painful and took a long time to heal, like 2 to 3 weeks. New Dr. suggested suppressive therapy and ordered generic valtrex. LMAO...$96.00 for 30 pills and that's with insurance...I simply can not afford that. Thought I'd try L-lysine, it's affordable, easy to take and sounds like it might work. Started 1000 mg./daily on the second day of my current outbreak. It seems to be speeding up the healing process. I will continue taking it after this outbreak completely heals but will cut back to 500 mg. daily.Read More Read Less

I used to get cold sores on my lips several times a year. About 10 years ago my daughter-in-law, a dietitian, suggested lysine. I take a tablet daily along with other meds and haven't had an outbreak since.

I have suffered with cold sores for 30 years. They usually form on and in my nose. I used to have almost a continuous outbreak year round until I started taking L Lysine. I have been taking 4,000 mg/day for many years and now only have one or maybe two outbreaks a year. I've tried RX meds from the Dr. and found they only worked while I took the 5 per day as prescribed and quit as soon as I stopped the meds. I tried taking L-Lysine only when I felt the C.sores coming on, but found it to be much more effective to take it on a daily, continuous basis. I have had no known side effects from this doseage.Read More Read Less

I am on a daily 1Gram pill of generic Valtrex, along with 1000 mg of L-Lysine, and I also use camphophenique, blistex and a new cream treatment called nexcare. I've recently used abreeva, and Releeve (which costs $18.97) for a very small bottle of liquid that I feel doesn't really work for what I want and need. I am very embarrassed and self-conscience about my face breaking out. It seems as though no sooner that I get 4 to 5 blemishes (blisters) healed, just as many break out...it's a never ending cycle of applying creams and liquid medicine to my face. I am 44 years old, and I would really like to not have any break outs on my face....whenever I have the facial breakouts it feels like I'm wearing a sign saying "HEY, I HAVE HERPES"...IS THERE SOME OTHER PRODUCT THAT IS MORE AFFECTIVE? PLEASE ADVISE ME OF ANYTHING THAT YOU MAY KNOW OF THAT I COULD USE. THANK YOU, LINDARead More Read Less

This has to be the best thing since sliced bread. I found out about lysine a year and a half ago. And I couldn't be happier i usually start taking one a day when i feel a cold coming on to help pervent cold sore and it works like a dream. And if one tries to surprise me i take two at the first sign /that first feeling u get when your lip seems a little warm and the lysine supplement will aid in the prevention of and out break i swear by the supplement

I usually get cold sores after I've been sick or if I've been under high stress for a long period of time. All I 2 lycine pills twice a day when I first start to feel sick or when I know I have a busy few weeks in fornt of me. It doesn't always completely prevent the cold sore but it does make a significant difference in the size and healing time

I used to get 3-4 cold sores a year, but now the only time I get one is when I stop taking lysine. If I keep up with taking one (500) a day like a vitamin I simply don't get a cold sore. If I feel one coming on, I up the dosage to twice a day and that keeps the cold sore from breaking the skin. Very happy that I found out about this supplement.

I have used L-Lysine for the last 10 years. It speeds up the healing of cold sores (herpes) or even prevents a cold sore if taken early enough.

When applied before the sore fully forms, it can prevent. I have also found that it reduces the time to heal the sore.
