I am back to report that I did find lysine to be more effective and much less expensive than valtrex. I took 3000-4000mg at signs of outbreak for 7-10 days to prevent the outbreak, but what was really my problem was Diet, I found a website that was clear on the foods that was causing me to have frequent outbreaks eventhough lysine was clearing it up faster but they were frequent because I was eat...

I took 3000mg (3 capsules) on Thursaday, then 1 on the Friday (following the "tingle") on Friday afternoon my face starting burning, swelling up unevenly, with a arash. By Saturday I had rash on my arms (inner elbow down to wrist) on my neck and chest. My eyes seemed to become small as did my lips. Sunday (today) my face is enormous and very uncomfortable

I have been taking lysine 1000mg daily for the past 6 months since taking lysine I have not had an outbreak. I am very happy that I found out about lysine and how effective it is. I was getting an outbreak nearly every couple of weeks as I lead a stressful life. Lysine has made my life a lot happier. And no side effects.

I have had a reoccurring herpes simplex for 30 years. It is on the side of my nose. Before taking lysine it would become very red, swollen, and often became infected before I was able to see a Dr for medication. The medication would help, but the duration was always weeks, even if I took it on the first day. With lysine, I take it as soon as I feel the tingling, the eruption is very slight and gone within 3 days. I need to take it on trips, or chance a bad eruption. It is a blessing, as before lysine, it was painful and embarrassing! The eruptions always come in times of other illness or stress. I have used several brands. Read More Read Less

All I can say is wow. I'm getting over a cold and of course what happens next? I get a cold sore, I've only ever had one once before and it was a beyond horrible experience.I decided to try Lysine after reading about it here and other websites. I wasn't expecting much since by the time I figured out what it was the cold sore was huge. I bought 500 milligram tablets of Lysine early Saturday morning and immediately started taking them. I also crushed a few to make into a paste to apply directly to the sore. Today is Sunday and it is almost totally gone, just a small raised patch on my lip where the cold sore was. This stuff really worked for me, I was already preparing myself for the disgusting looks that I would get at work tomorrow but it looks like I won't have to worry about that. So far I haven't had any side effects but I have only been taking them for a day but I have to say, unless my nose falls off or something I can't see any drawbacks to talking the Lysine. For me, it has worked a miracle.Read More Read Less

Before reading about lysine as a treatment for cold sores, I would have horrible outbreaks that would continue to expand around my mouth, up to my nose and inside my mouth. Now, when I first feel a tingle, or even after the bumps have formed, I take the maximum dose of lysine, the cold sore fails to form or reverses itself.

L-Lysine has worked well for me in preventing cold sores, but I don't take it until I start having an outbreak of them. The Lysine ointment certainly works better than Abreva, but the best immediate treatment is pure lemon balm. It gets rid of them quickly.

I bought this product plus l-lysine pills. Started taking the pills as soon as I bought them, and would apply the treatment through out the day. At night I would crush the pill and add a little water to make a paste and then apply it to the sore overnight. Taking the pill, applying this treatment, and making the paste at night has worked wonders. Cold sore was completely gone in less than a week.

I take this for depression and it has made a marked difference. I take between 4 and 5 thousand milligrams a day, sometimes more. I cry a lot more when I dont take it. Doesnt seem plausible, but I have noticed a correlation over a number of years, so I believe its valid.

I started getting cold sores at 19. I'm 22 now and just found the perfect thing to get rid of them in a day. (If you catch it as soon as it appears). I do the Lysine pills and the ointment. I had a cold sore pop up this morning I've taken 3000 mg on the pills and used the ointment like it's going outta style. Within 3/4 hours it's almost completely gone also with some cold compress. The 10$ for the tube of ointment was the best 10$ I've ever spent!!

life is not fair sometimes, 99% of people get cold sores but it seemed like i was the only one who had his cold sore turn into a nasty scabby mess that covered quarter of my lower lip and took two looooooong weeks to heal. sigghhhh. This wonderful event occured twice a year, every year all my life. like most of you i tried every known remedy without much success. 3 days ago, the dreaded tingly felling came and finally went to see a doctor and what he recommended worked. i waited a day before i saw him,the blister was raised and the skin had already broken. he recommended that i take 1000mg of lysine three times a day and he prescribed zovirax. when i awoke this morning i could see that it had healed far better than i expected, there is some discoloration of the skin but potential for scabbing it minimal. unbelievable!!! i was canceling my NYE plans because i was preparing for the worst but looks like i will be among the masses now celebrating the new year! when i have a cold sore i know how a women with large breast go through..."hey my eyes are up here!" I had hpv and genital warts. Doctor told me to take this after she treated my warts. So far, wart free. How effective is this item, I really don't know. Its not back by a study, so can't say. But for me, I feel that it works. I've been using it for 6 months or so.

I've had cold sores, inside and sometimes outside my mouth area all my life. Rarely two weeks would go by without having some kind of sore inside my mouth. I started taking lysine, 500mg 2x/day about 6 weeks ago and have not had a single cold sore or even slight flare up of any kind. This to me is absolutely miraculous, because my cold sores were genuinely painful.

Have been plagued with cold sores since a teen. Began L-lysine supplement about five years ago and discovered it both prevents outbreaks and, when they do occur (very rarely now), the duration is much shorter, esp. when doubling the dose at first signs of outbreak. Only side effect is that nails grow much faster.

I've had this for over 20 yrs.. Although my outbreaks have diminished with time, as would be expected regardless of any treatments, therapies, supplements, etc., my personal experience is that my outbreaks were dramatically reduced (about 1/2) from approximately 1 per year to 1 outbreak per every 2 years, since I started L-Lysine supplements. My typical dosing, which I've done for about 5 yrs now, is about 500mg /day with more some days & nothing on others, but rarely missing a day or more altogether. Hope this is helpful to somebody. I have suffered cold sores for 50 years and was taking using zovirax cream and more recently the tablets, but did not like the side effects of an upset stomach and intense dreams (not nightmares). I now take one 1000mg tablet of lysine at the first sign, usually the itch and then one 1000 mg tablet each day for 5 days. It works and the side effects are much less than zovirax. Other benefits from lysine seem to be a lessening of mild arteritic pain in my knuckles and a general feeling of 'wellbeing' and more energy. (I am 65). However, because of the reported side effects of gallstones and kidney problems, I am reluctant to take a continuous low dosage and increase it when the itch returns.Read More Read Less
