I am back to report that I did find lysine to be more effective and much less expensive than valtrex. I took 3000-4000mg at signs of outbreak for 7-10 days to prevent the outbreak, but what was really my problem was Diet, I found a website that was clear on the foods that was causing me to have frequent outbreaks eventhough lysine was clearing it up faster but they were frequent because I was eat...

I took 3000mg (3 capsules) on Thursaday, then 1 on the Friday (following the "tingle") on Friday afternoon my face starting burning, swelling up unevenly, with a arash. By Saturday I had rash on my arms (inner elbow down to wrist) on my neck and chest. My eyes seemed to become small as did my lips. Sunday (today) my face is enormous and very uncomfortable

Was having horrible, painful apthous ulcers (canker sores - NOT herpes, not blisters, but ulcers) in my mouth 2 times a year (fall and spring) that would last for 2-3 months. My dentist suggested a lysine supplement, and the duration has greatly decreased.

After taking Lysine for a couple of weeks, I noticed that my outbreaks were less. I take it on a daily basis to avoid any more outbreaks.

I take 1000mg of L-Lysing am and pm, if taken eairly enough symptoms go away without sores. If taken after sores are present, they go away usually in a day or so. Reduces number of sores. I have found that cantalope or peanut butter brings on outbreaks.

I use Lysine daily with Acyclovir and it works great to prevent outbreaks. I've taken this for about 6 months and have been outbreak free with a few rashes here and there. If i up the lysine to 1500 mg (i usually take 1000 mg) during a rash it goes away within a day or two. I take this with Echinacea and Vitamin C daily
