I am back to report that I did find lysine to be more effective and much less expensive than valtrex. I took 3000-4000mg at signs of outbreak for 7-10 days to prevent the outbreak, but what was really my problem was Diet, I found a website that was clear on the foods that was causing me to have frequent outbreaks eventhough lysine was clearing it up faster but they were frequent because I was eat...

I took 3000mg (3 capsules) on Thursaday, then 1 on the Friday (following the "tingle") on Friday afternoon my face starting burning, swelling up unevenly, with a arash. By Saturday I had rash on my arms (inner elbow down to wrist) on my neck and chest. My eyes seemed to become small as did my lips. Sunday (today) my face is enormous and very uncomfortable

Started lysine after doing lots of reading up on possible preventative treatments/supplements - Lysine seemed to work well for many people...picked some up from Duane read, started out 1000mgs twice daily for 4 days, then gradually cut down to 500mgs once a day, every day. This amino acid really seems to have worked wonder for me...I've been plagued by cold sores on and off for the past year, on my lips! Try it...if it seems to work for you, go with it, I absolutely recommend it. Also, I've learned to stay away from foods high In Arginine, as this amino acid aggrevates the herpes virus - foods like Coffee, chocolate..to name a couple.. Spicy foods are a no no as well! I'm still taking the Lysine supps, 500 mg a day (been about 2 months now), no breakouts!Read More Read Less

I use Lysine,Vitamin A, and a topical cream containing colostrum. It has proven effective for lessening outbreak of a fever blister(s) on my lip(s). Expensive- cream runs $80/ounce, but sans pharma.

I took two 1000mg tablets twice a day (with meals) for three days and symptoms improved dramatically. Blisters dried and pain/itching subsided considerably. I am going to taper off slowly and try to determine a maintenance/preventive dosage - probably two tabs per day, especially during summer months and stressful times of the year when flare ups become more frequent.

Lysine is so useful for cold sores IF one takes 1000-2000 upon the first sign of a cold sore; however, I did find that I had a side effect of tension and feeling hyper when I took 2,000-4,000 a day for several days in a row.

I started taking L-Lysine 1000mg daily about 3 weeks ago, after looking for supplemental help for sun damaged skin, aged skin etc. After 3 weeks of use (taken with 12 ounce glass of water before bed)and religious use of sunblock daily, I am beginning to notice smoother more firm skin. I'm cautious about the reports of "miracle" results of supplements, but do seem to see a difference with this. I will consider easing off very soon, given the high dose, and the reported effects of long term use. Read More Read Less

I have geneital bumps tests are cleared but Dr. assuming it could be HSV-1 she never checked for it but was not diagnosed for HSV-2 or any other STDs. I start taking L-Lysine without her advice since it is available over the counter. It works for me if I take 2000mg of Lysine once in a day. after 5 days I did not took the medicine and took centrum multivitamin instead so feeling itching again. but taking L-Lysine have helped me alot and bumps seems recoverd almost!

I am 60 years old, since I was 32 I've used L-lysine for YEAST INFECTION / CANDIDIS and bladder infections. Before that I spent tons of money on doctors and prescription medicine for yeast infections. I had an infection EVERY month and actually looked forward to my period for relief. L-lysine built up my immunity and I've had two infections since then. WOW, why don't doctors prescribe it?

I found out that I had herpes 5 months ago. For the first 3 months nothing worked and even though I was taking lysine it didn't work because I was only taking 1000mg a day. My outbreaks were frequent and unbearable. But now that I have increased my dose [2000mg] daily it has really worked. I also make sure to take a tablet [1000mg] anytime I feel tingling or signs that an outbreak is going to happen. I'm only 19 and I find this treatment very affective, easy and reliable.

There's no doubt L-lysine works. If I take it as soon as I suspect an outbreak, I usually manage to prevent the cold sore completely. When I feel one coming on, I take two tablets (1000 mg each) every 4th hour for a day or two before I go down to two a day. If you stop too soon, the cold sore might come back though, no stopping it then. So make sure you keep your dosage of 2 tablets for at least a week. To be safe, I go down to one a day for a week after this. The only downside to L-lysine is the chalky horrid capsules they come in, they are hard to swallow - and they do give me nausea - maybe due to the sudden, high dose (6-8 a day) - I don't think they're meant to be taken this way. Solgar Vitamin does provide L-lysine in easy to swallow capsules. Read More Read Less

I have hsv2 and take lysine 500 mg. daily for suppressive therapy. Recently when I felt an outbreak beginning, I increased my dose to 1000 mg twice daily. The outbreak went away, it did not develop into a sore. I continued 1000 mg twice daily for 7 days then returned to 500 mg daily.

have been taking Lysine (1000 mg) to treat cold sores for years - I took it every day for a month and now only weekly or a couple of times the week prior to my period I do not get cold sores - I use to get them very often and they are very painful. I now do not have to take costly prescriptions to treat them or prevent them, not sure why my doctor never mentioned it. I suffered as a child with terribly painful cold sores.

I used to get cold sores during that time of the month, high stress, and during colds or flu. I can count on one hand how many I've had since I started taking this. It's a wonder-drug!

I bought L-Lysine tablet form cause I was going to have surgery and I felt a cold sore coming on and I wanted to stave it off, well I decided not to swallow the pill but moisten it and place it on my sore, and it worked! Never broke the skin! It's been two days now and my lip is sore, but it isn't showing, no one notices and I barely notice. I'm in LOVE!

I get cold sores on the mouth as well as on the nose. I used to get one every time I was in severe sun or I would get them inside or on my nose in the winter months. What a life saver L-lysine has been. Cold sores used to make me feel embarrased and not my outgoing self. I take 1000mg daily. I rarely get them anymore and when I do, the healing time is much less than when i first had outbreaks. When i do get one, i use abreva for topical use because it is soothing and helps heal the blister and take an extra dose of L-lysine. Hope this helps.. give it a try.. it really works. Read More Read Less
