I am back to report that I did find lysine to be more effective and much less expensive than valtrex. I took 3000-4000mg at signs of outbreak for 7-10 days to prevent the outbreak, but what was really my problem was Diet, I found a website that was clear on the foods that was causing me to have frequent outbreaks eventhough lysine was clearing it up faster but they were frequent because I was eat...

I took 3000mg (3 capsules) on Thursaday, then 1 on the Friday (following the "tingle") on Friday afternoon my face starting burning, swelling up unevenly, with a arash. By Saturday I had rash on my arms (inner elbow down to wrist) on my neck and chest. My eyes seemed to become small as did my lips. Sunday (today) my face is enormous and very uncomfortable

Ever since I was little, I suffered from mouth ulcers. I would have an episode of them at least 4-6 times a year. When I got them, they weren't small either! And they were very painful. The beginning of this year I had about twelve of them in my mouth. It hurt to eat, to talk, to do anything! I was absolutely miserable. I started researching online I found out about L-Lysine, I started taking it immediatlely. This was in February, and since then I have had about two ulcers, at two different times, but they were so tiny and only lasted about two days, as opposed to about two weeks. These are my magic pills! I still take them everyday as a preventative measure (500 mg) I take 1000 mg if I actually have an ulcer.Read More Read Less

I have been plagued with cold sores since I was very little. I get them frequently and they are big and last about 10 days. Here is a treatment I do every single day as soon as I wake up and I no longer get them. If I do happen to get one it is maybe one small bump and is gone in a day. I take: Lysine 1000 mg, vitamin C 1000mg and Cats Claw 500mg twice a week. Lysine needs to be taken on an empty stomach to work best. That's it!! Problem solved but you must do it faithfully to work. You should also check with your physician before taking cat's claw. Hope this helps and I wish I had found it much sooner in life! Read More Read Less

I suffered with Rosatia for many years and when I begun to get spots on my face at aged 60 years I went to my doctor who said there was no cure. I found a document on the web recommending L Lycene 1000mg and then 500mg for the condition. I took it for 3 days and the spots disappeared. I have continued to take 500mg every day since and the condition has never returned I am 66 now.

I have been getting frequent cold sores on my lip, same spot, for the past few years. I heard that L-Lysine works very good so I tried it for the first time and I actually liked it. I bought the L-Lysine+, a clear lip ointment, along with a pill supplement. I broke out with a cold sore Monday and started using/taking them since, it is Thursday now and my cold sore has significantly gone down in size and is almost gone. I would definitely continue using this product.

My "treatment" consisted of taking 500 mg twice a day to prevent outbreaks. I found no reduction of outbreaks. I also took the same dosage during an outbreak with no discernible effects..... so I quit taking Lysine and endured outbreaks of varying intensity for 10 years. The severity and duration of the outbreaks have become less as time goes by. Now, I have maybe two or three outbreaks a year which are of short (3-4 days) duration and sometime never getting to the blister stage. This said, there is obviously a difference in the effectiveness of lysine for different people. If it helps you. that's great. If not, perhaps the outbreaks will become less severe as time passes as it did for me. Read More Read Less

please people, you do not need to take so much..just take one 500 mg when you feel the tingle and one 500 mg at night..try this first and then add another if you need it..I take one a day several days a week and this keeps me from getting cold sores which have plagued me for 50 years..if I go on vacation or something and don't take for a few days, I will feel one coming on ..

I was recently diagnosed with HSV 4 months ago. Newly Divorced I was excited about dating and meeting new people. Well I met someone and he did not let me know he has HSV. I was mortified, I felt dity, used, ashamed, embarrassed, betrayed I was so deppressed. This is not supposed to happen at 53, right. WRONG!!! It can happen to anyone. So how do I cope and move forward? I was so stressed out and had no one to talk to. I don"t want anyone to know. So I had breakouts one afteranother. Which made my deppression and anxiety worse. I started doing some research and came accross this website and read the reveiws for Lysine. OMG what a life saver. I have been taking 2,000 mg everyday and Valtrex 3x a week and feel great. My Dr. never told me about Lysine. The Valtrex helped but I think the Lysine is the key to controlling outbreaks and symptoms. I am so greatfull to all you wonderfull people for taking the time to share your experience. If it weren't for you I would still be deppressed and suffering. I am dating again and yes I told him I had HSV. It is WRONG not to tell a partner. My future looks so much brighter. I am not in constant pain and haven't had an outbreak since starting the Lysine. I don't know why Dr's don't tell patients about this.Read More Read Less

I used to get the worst cold sores imaginable. And being a teen in school this is embarrassing! But I've been taking 1 in the morning and 1 at night and have been cold sore free. Just be cautious. If you feel a tingle... take one and put some cream of some sort on. P.s. camphor-phenique is the best thing out there cream-wise.

I read the report an decided to try myself. I am VERY pleased with the outcome. The moment i feel an outbreak, i take 3000 mg-4000 mg first day. Than take 2000 mg 2nd day to insure cold sore doesn't come back and than maybe a 3rd day also. I have been cold sore free for 1 year. I will check back with you after 2nd year.

I suffered from herpes outbreaks at LEAST 3x/month for many years. It was painful, embarrassing and ruined my sex life. After doing research on the internet I found that some had had success using lysine. I started out at 4000mg per day for about 2weeks. It did NOTHING and I gave up. Just for my general health I began taking a multivitamin daily....and I was still having regular outbreaks. For some reason I decided to try Lysine again and my outbreaks stopped almost immediately! I believe that the combination of the multivitamin and the Lysine is what did the trick for me. The second time around I only took 3000mg of Lysine per day (at once in the morning) and it totally works for me. I've been doing this regularly for the past 9mos and I've had MAYBE 6 outbreaks (and even when I do, they are WAY less severe and go away within 2 or 3 days). Now I've upped my dosage to 4000mg per day just to try to COMPLETELY get rid of any outbreaks at all. If that doesn't work, I will maybe change to 2000mg morning and 2000 in the evening and see if that takes them away completely.Read More Read Less

I've just started taking this for mouth ulcers as I have started getting them so regularly that it wasnt fun. It seems to be really helping. I had a vicious ulcer that just wasnt going and I started taking this (1g) and overnight the pain reduced and it slowly healed. Since then I've been taking it as a preventative measure and so far not had any more of the blighters!

I came home from the beach the other day and six blisters appeared on my bottom lip. I was horrified because I had only had one blister at a time before but I guess it was way too much sun. I began my usual treatment of abreva that doesn't always do much. The next day I heard about lysine as a treatment and immediately ran out to buy it. I began taking a 500 mg tablet 3times a day (more then the bottle recommends). I immediately saw a difference the cold sores did not progress like they normally do. After just three days it is just a little red and appears like I just had chapped lips. Highly recommend this treatment.Read More Read Less

I just started getting cold sores in my 40's and I find that topical Lysine (from the health food store) works just as good as Lipactin from the pharmacy. I have never taken Lysine orally, but I know the topical use works.
