I am back to report that I did find lysine to be more effective and much less expensive than valtrex. I took 3000-4000mg at signs of outbreak for 7-10 days to prevent the outbreak, but what was really my problem was Diet, I found a website that was clear on the foods that was causing me to have frequent outbreaks eventhough lysine was clearing it up faster but they were frequent because I was eat...

I took 3000mg (3 capsules) on Thursaday, then 1 on the Friday (following the "tingle") on Friday afternoon my face starting burning, swelling up unevenly, with a arash. By Saturday I had rash on my arms (inner elbow down to wrist) on my neck and chest. My eyes seemed to become small as did my lips. Sunday (today) my face is enormous and very uncomfortable

When I feel a colds sore coming on I take 1,000mg twice a day and it never develops into a sore. After about 2 days it is completely gone. Amazing cold sore treatment. Take it when you first feel a tingling and it works

I noticed that most of the people the Lysine did not work fôr took a very low dose. I have a stressful life and I take 1500mg in the morning and afternoon and have been for years. If I feel a break out coming I add an additional dose at noon. I haven't had smyside affect which is great for me. I'm one of those people that if there's a side affect I'll probably have it. But nothing with the Lysine. The list of side affects on Valtrex (leading treatment for Herpes) scares the crap out of me.

I was taking acyclovir for prevention of cold sores. I get them monthly and have are all over my lips and up into my nose. Acyclovir is very expensive. When I read L-lysine is helpful in preventing cold sores, I switched. It works wonderfully. If I forget to take L-lysine for two days or so - wham - I get one.

I only get a cold sore 1x every 2-3years. Felt one coming on, went to local drug store, women cashier showed me all the options, I went with Lysine 500mg vitamins and Carmex lip balm. The cold sore never enlarged and within 1wk it was gone.

I found Lysine a few years ago because I couldn't see spending so much money for Abriva when I get the occasional cold sore. I get one maybe every other year. The Lysine is way more affordable and works wonderfully. The cold sore is far less painful, doesn't erupt to it's fullest, grossest capacity and heals within a week.

I have used lysine for many years at the first tingle of a cold sore starting and it is very effective. I recommend its use to anyone with this experience. I was introduced to it while skiing in Colorado many years ago. A pharmacist there suggested it to me as I was experiencing fever blisters on my lips because of the bright sunshine. I could not find the same product in Minnesota but a pharmacist here looked at the ingredients and told me to take lysine as it was the main ingredient in the product I had purchased in CO (I cannot remember the name of the over the counter product because it has been many years since I was introducted to it) and I have used it ever since for cold sores and fever blisters at the onset of a problem. Also, I take an aspirin at the onset too along with the lysine and continue with the lysine until all is gone. I hightly recommend lysine! Good luck.Read More Read Less

As someone with frequent outbreaks of HSV2, I find that Lysine doesn't reduce my outbreaks, and it certainly doesn't help it to go away once an outbreak happens.

Usually if I can take Lysine at the first sign of a cold sore, it will stop it from developing. For me, the first sign is chapped lips - and if I'm at home and have Lysine available right away, the cold sore will not develop - even if I can't take it right away, it will usually help heal the sore more quickly. A nurse friend told me about this - and I try to keep Lysine on hand all the time now. I've never had any side effects - and have been using Lysine for about 18 years now whenever I feel a cold sore developing. Rarely use it for more than a few days.Read More Read Less

If I take 500mg of L-lysine a day, I do not get cold sores at all. I have been taking this off and on for at least 10 years.

As soon as the itch begins commence dosage of 1000mg at breakfast time as lysine does make you slightly hyperactive. If taken at night it can make it difficult to sleep. Also has effect of relieving mild arthertic pain. Dosage 500mg daily.

If you ever had cold sores you know how annoying this condition can be. My experince with Lysine has been very positive. As soon as i feel the tingle of the cold sore i take 500mg three times a day (1500mg). I normally take this dosage from 4 to 7 days depending on how fast the cold sore starts healing. The sooner you identify the cold sore attack and start treating it, the shorter life span the cold sore will have. This is what i have noticed in my case, it seems to slow or stop the cold sore from developing. I would highly recommend this treatment.Read More Read Less

I woke up with a bump on the very corner of my lip, not on my lip. Considering I've never had a cold sore outside of my mouth I figured it was just a bump since it hurt SO bad so I tried to pop it. Bad idea. After realizing it was probably a cold sore I applied lysine on it before going to sleep. When I woke up it wasn't sore and was almost gone! Completely shocked! Very good product.
