I am 49 y/o and I have had cold sore outbreaks ever since my beloved mother gave me a kiss on the mouth when she had a cold sore outbreak when I was 16 years old. Three weeks later I got my first cold sore and I've had them every winter ever since. Winter 2015 I finally figured out that my outbreaks were due to the cold snaps we get living in Florida. I’ve always had canker sores, it seems. I’m elderly and thus have had them a great many times over the years. I had tried the usual OTC remedies with limited success, even salt directly on the sore. Until the time my mouth erupted in multiple places. I went online and searched for help. I read a post from a woman recommending lysine. Claimed it had worked wonders for her. God bless that woman. I bought a bottle and it worked wonders for me. Within a day half we’re gone and the rest soon followed. I have been using lysine for my canker sores ever since. Any time I have one now, I take lysine. Sometimes it’s gone later the same day! Read More Read Less

Dealing with a recurrent pimple-like sore in the upper corner of my palate, probably caused by extreme immunosuppression due to Crohn's Disease meds. Tried NutraBio lysine powder, 250-1000 mg twice a day; I varied the dosage several times. Took it for about 10 days; the sore finally faded, but I got severe stomach pain. It might be something else, but I stopped the lysine, and the stomach pains subsided. I might use lysine again, but only on an episodic basis. Also amazed at how many totally FAKE reviews are on this site; hard to get any real anecdotes, just fake sales pitches. Read More Read Less

L lysine (500mg/day) has helped me immensely with symptoms of anxiety and ptsd. It has helped me feel more upbeat and outgoing and social and has also given me more of a sense of physical well being.

Before taking L-lysine from the NOW brand, I had been suffering from canker sores for the last 20 years on a very regular basis. My canker sore(s) would last for one week, maybe even two weeks. Once cured, I would be pain-free for a few days to one week and then I would get one or two new canker sores, making it painful to talk or eat sometimes, especially when it is under the tongue. Anyway, I read that L-lysine could prevent canker sores from forming so I started taking one L-lysine 1000mg tablet from the NOW brand three times a day, mostly on empty stomach downed with a cup of water. Once first thing in the morning upon waking up at 6 AM, once at about 6 PM when I reach home and about half an hour before eating dinner and once before going to be bed at 10:45 PM. As an ethnic Chinese, we believe in "heaty" and "cooling" foods. Despite eating significant amount of "heaty" foods such as fried foods, potato chips and chocolates (that would have surely caused canker sores in the past) just to test whether the L-Lysine works as a form of prevention, I didn't experience any canker sores in the last 2 - 3 weeks since I started. It's so wonderful to experience a mouth that is pain-free for once. Read More Read Less

As preventive to cold sores. Controling lysine and arginine rich food intake also helps. To prevent cold sore outbreaks arginine should never be consumed in excess to lysine. Cutting seeds, nuts, chocolate, etc. also helps because they have a lot of arginine. So l-lysine suplement helps to balance daily intake. 1000 mg is the correct daily dose for most people according to body weight. More than 1000 mg daily should be taken only if necessary and for little time.

Don't think it made any difference at all for the HSV, but for topical infections/acne, it has been extremely helpful. Chronic acne and infection from diabetes weakened immune system, and now it's more like a few normal pimples instead of big throbbing painful oozing things and having them all over all the time.

I believe this helps for depression. I have been taking this supplement for at least 20 years and have noticed mood elevation when I do take 4-5 thousand milligrams a day. I used to cry more when I didnt take it but now that I have aged more I notice more anger and frustration when I dont take it. Its a much more balanced quality of life for me when I take this supplement.

I had cold sores on my lips and around my mouth. They were no longer tingling and looked more healed after 2 days on the treatment.

I realized that when it starts to get cold (below 50°) my lips will start to feel like a prune and NO amount of lip moisturizing helps. I finally realized it was the cold snaps that was changing my pH balance and breaking me out in cold sores . It took me till I was literally this age of 49 to figure this out . I just figured cold Soares was something I would have to live through every winter which I have until 2015. During the summer when I never have outbreaks because my lips are moist I started taking small doses of lysing (500 mg) and also for the first time started taking biotin for "hair skin and nails" (one maximum dosage daily tablet 10k mcg). I took these two over-the-counter medicines religiously every day starting September 2016... Just before the cold season hit . I do not take them during the spring and summer because I don't breakout. Whenever the cold snaps DID occur I IMMEDIATELY UP my l-lysine to 3x a day ... Usually blended into my smoothies so I couldn't taste it at all... 1000 mg (yup!) each serving... morning noon night . Sometimes I even did it four times a day. (I got this 3k - 4k MG dosage idea from a holistic website). When the cold snap ended I DROPPED the dosage of l-lysine (any brand you want) to normal 500 mg. Also Biotene is taken every day year-round with my regular vitamin supplements . If I felt like it during a cold snap I might take biotin morning and night with my l-lysine smoothie :) Lip moisturizers don't keep you from breaking out. This is my second year and I have had ZERO outbreaks it's awesome. Finally!!!!! L lysine and biotin. Read More Read Less

I spent my whole youth 8-30 years living with the embarrassment of cold sores. I had a girlfriend, it was such a stressful time in my life. Doctors told me to change my diet, they gave me pills, topical crap that never worked. Then one night out of complete boredom I Googled "cold sores". What I found was L-Lysine. I ran to WalMart and bought a bottle, It's been over 30 years now and I have never had another cold sore. I look back on my high school, college days and think of all the days/nights I stayed home because I had a whopper on my lips and no fricking doctor ever mentioned L-Lysine. WTF!! Such an easy cure. I'm so pissed that I didn't know of this simple remedy back in the days when I really needed it. My Junior High and High school pictures are all scared with fever sores. I'm so happy now, but I'm so pissed about not having this information back in the 60's-70's-80's.Read More Read Less
