I am back to report that I did find lysine to be more effective and much less expensive than valtrex. I took 3000-4000mg at signs of outbreak for 7-10 days to prevent the outbreak, but what was really my problem was Diet, I found a website that was clear on the foods that was causing me to have frequent outbreaks eventhough lysine was clearing it up faster but they were frequent because I was eat...

I took 3000mg (3 capsules) on Thursaday, then 1 on the Friday (following the "tingle") on Friday afternoon my face starting burning, swelling up unevenly, with a arash. By Saturday I had rash on my arms (inner elbow down to wrist) on my neck and chest. My eyes seemed to become small as did my lips. Sunday (today) my face is enormous and very uncomfortable

I use to get a cold sore whenever my toothbrush would scrape my gums and it would hurt and lasts for days. Then I read that Lysine is an amino acid and it helps to heal cold sores. I haven't had a cold sore in years since using it! I don't take it as a regular supplement, but I would sometimes take it for a week or two as a preventative just in case. Just recently, I must have caught a virus and my throat was red and sore, lasted over a week. I decided to start a double dose of L Lysine for a few days and within 3 days the redness and pain went away. Only down fall is the pills are big and might be hard for some people to swallow it. I've never checked if there are smaller pills. Read More Read Less

An off hand suggestion from my nurse at the VA clinic, I gave Lysine a try. In one week the sores in my mouth that I had been told were possible cancer by my Dentist were gone. The edges of my mouth are also healed. I am able to just about able to eat all the foods I have had to avoid for the last 25 years. Yes I know this sounds to good to be true, but it is true for this Veteran.

DO NOT TAKE IF DIABETIC!!! My mom took this from word of mouth. She is a severe diabetic. Thank God she has a meter attached to her. Her suger plummeted to 40 and for 6 hours and many tries at raising her sugar the highest we could raise it was to 77. I don't recommend this product if you are diabetic and if you do MONITOR IT!!!! I've never seen this happen ever so I know this is a dangerous supplement for diabetics!!!

Took me many years to figure out that corn, wheat and nuts and chocolate had a lot of arginine that was suppressing my lysine level... I reduced those foods and since I'm plant based, I had to take lysine to take control over my herpes. My husband is quite happy we can kiss ally year long!

I have lupus, so I get what they call lupus sores. Along with the lupus sores I also have geo graphic tongue, which according to my oral dermatologist is not supposed to hurt very bad, clearly she had never had it. I will say that I have also noticed a mood change from extreme depression to feeling so much better. Have lost weight over this past year, and I have also noticed that my facial skin is not as saggy. I have been using this on and off since I was a child, around 7 and I am now 43, it has always cleared up mouth sores.Read More Read Less

I’m 60 yrs old. Like so many others here, I've lived with cold sores all my life. Until my daughter (who contracted the virus from me probably) told me about l-lysine. It worked like a charm! As soon as I feel a cold sore starting, I take 1k-2k three times a day (any brand) and it stops it from growing. Why do Doctors still not recognize this? The practical evidence is clear! Instead, they sell these expensive lip balms that are absolutely useless.

Ever since I remember, every year as we change season into winter I get cold sores, they can last up to 2 - 3 weeks. They are itchy, ugly and uncomfortable. I recently started getting a cold sore so my friend went out and bought me L-Lysine, she said it works for her. I was very sceptical as I have used so many creams in the past that have not worked. After 2 days of taking the tablets my coldsore retracted and has almost disappeared. I am so surprised and very impressed that it worked for me! Read More Read Less

I got shingles, the medicine from the Dr. didn't do a thing! I called my Mom, and she said to take two L-Lysene in the morning and two at night, I took two more the second day and they were gone! I take it now because my skin is getting dry patches, which I think are related to aging, I'm only 65! It is helping with the overall condition of my skin.

starting using over 10 yrs ago, take 1000 mg. daily.Works great, try to use as little as possible, once you start, you need to keep taking it. At one time I was using 2000 mg. lowered the dose slowly. Also builds your immune system, so I rarely get ill. besides my acid re-flux med, I won't go without it.

I keep lysine 1,000 mg tablets on hand for the occasional outbreak of a cold sore on my lip. Been using it for cold sores for 20 years. It really does reduce the flare up and I heal very quickly.

For decades I have had HSV1 but I do not get any skin eruptions, only skin tingling and tissue pain near the skin, and fatigue with occasional, mild flu symptoms. With this, my tinnitus worsens and sometimes I feel light-headed. I have tested positive for HSV1 several times. The HSV1 events can last between three days and three months and are associated with emotional stress. Taking Acylclovir can help with the tissue pain, which extends all over my body and sometimes briefly to internal organs. At some point, the Acyclovir seems to be less effective and I simply have to sleep through the event. This week, two weeks into an HSV event, I decided to look for research on a supplement to help and discovered information about L-Lysine. Within an hour of taking 2000 mg all pain in my tissues was gone and tingling had greatly diminished. I felt a brightness in my perception and realized how foggy headed I had been. Today is my third day on L-Lysine and when I stop taking it the symptoms recur. I do understand that too much for too long can have negative effects. I'm 57 and I have also been noticing a lot of thinning of my skin. I'm hoping the l-Lysine might help with this, too!Read More Read Less

Completely un-scientific and anecdotal, I know, and possibly psychosomatic, but when I had a bad outbreak of cold sores 10 years ago, taking daily lysine cleared it up within days. And now, whenever I feel run down I take 1,000mg every day for a few days and it helps with my fatigue and prevents the outbreak of cold sores that used to accompany severe fatigue in the past. Again, I know there's not a ton of data and this is highly anecdotal, but it seems to work for me.

When I had cancer they gave me chemotherapy which thank God saved my life but I got the most horrible fungus in my mouth for which they gave me an antifungal medication which was very expensive. A fellow cancer patient told me about lysine and no more fungus! All I had to do was take the lysine daily. At any sign of something growing in my mouth I took extra lysine several thousand a day until the problem was finished. Because of my luck with lysine my husband started using it for cold sores and he found it extremely effective. He takes lysine everyday and has not had a cold sore in years. I also gave it to my children whenever they bit a lip and the offending irritation would be gone within 24 hours. I think the only reason many doctors do not say to take lysine is because it is so cheap compared to the medication they prescribe!Read More Read Less

Just a Warning. I took a Lysine supplement in an effort to prevent cold sores. Did so for a couple years and it seemed somewhat effect. (Hard to prove negatives though) . However it changed my Liver enzymes. A routine blood test came up with strange readings which resulted in me being subjected to all sorts of tests for 6 months. Hepatitis and other liver diseases were a concern...everything proved negative and the doctors were puzzled. I reminded them I was taking Lysine and they threw up their hand said try laying off the lysine and in six weeks all blood tests were back to normal. My doctor found only one mention of a possible connection in the medical literature. Lucky me. Probably not a reason to stop taking Lysine but if you ever get a strange liver enzyme test...think of that first not last.Read More Read Less

I take L-Lysine 1000mg during times of stress. I get mouth blisters especially when I have events or appointments and this prevents them and/or makes them go away in a few days. I have also noticed my face tends to not break out during these periods. I have trialed it myself, and on days I take L-Lysine, I get no new breakouts and even after a few days after. I also find my fine lines and wrinkles look a little less noticeable. I thought it was a coinicidence or maybe because of how much water I have to drink to get it to go down since its big was what was helping my skin, so I did a mini study. No matter my diet, sleep or water intake, L-Lysine was also helping my skin! Maybe just me but it genuinely helps. Also makes sense as when I was younger, the only time my skin was clearing up (I had bad acne) was when my mom made me take an L-Lysine for a blister.Read More Read Less
