I had to get a pick line put in me for antibiotics. The doctor put it in too close to my heart and it gave me tachycardia of 200 to 220. They removed the pick line but it didn’t slow my heart rate down, so they gave me adenosine. They simply said it was uncomfortable. That’s like comparing a severed finger to a paper cut. It feels like your whole body is being electrocuted from the inside, while someone sucks out your breath. You feel like you are dying. I take atp by mouth about an hour and a half before I start workouts I take 2400mg with sugar. There is definitely an increase in energy and drive. But it can make your stomach hurt and you can get over amped if you're not careful.

2ER visits via ambulance in 2 1/2 yrs. IV 6mg of adenosine worked 1st episode. 2nd episode April 2022 had my ??Beating at 180+ for 5 1/2 hrs. It took 3 vials (18mg) to stop my racing heart. ER dr was amazed. Felt like I levitated off the gurney, horrific squeezing pain which lasted a few seconds. Felt like I died & was reborn all in a flash. My mate was freaked out watching this. Now I count on my EMT, ER dr & staff to save my life again if my ??goes running a non-stop marathon. I’m on Nebivolol daily. Thank God for "merical "drug! I was at 186 beats per minute yesterday and as soon as I called emergency services and" adenosine "was introduced... My heart slowed down and I could breath again properly thank you God for giving us this rescue drug I was waiting me or two hours especially after vi took other bet blocker right before I had the episode happen to me .......but nothing worked and it had to the adenosine or it would have countuied for God knows how long more and that was dangerous and deadly!Read More Read Less

Have had PSVT for about 20 years. Cardizem didn't work for 10 years, and atenolol gave me vivid, nightmarish dreams that robbed me of sleep and made me fearful of going to bed. I voluntarily ceased all meds, with my doctor's permission. Now, once or twice a year, when I have worked too hard, or eaten chocolate on an empty stomach, or become a bit dehydrated and not slept enough, or a combination of these no-no's, I will sometimes get a paroxysmal SVT of 170-200 beats that sends me to the hospital because it doesn't just come and go as a 15-minute episode but lasts for an hour or more, even sometimes through a nap. Adenosine IV is administered in the ambulance or ER and makes me feel faint and as though I am going to pass out and/or die. Feels like you are running at top speed and the heart suddenly puts the breaks on. Very uncomfortable and frightening and sometimes it takes another dose to work. The heart rate dips to about 100 and then just hydration and rest will bring it back to 80-ish within about 30 minutes. I have found that if I drink/eat anything caffeinated and immediately flush my stomach with two big glasses of water, SVT is unlikely to happen (Vagus nerve?), but the heart rate may be a bit rough throughout the day, so now, sadly, I avoid caffein altogether. Partly the reason I wait to get help is due to the effects of adenosine, but it does work. It is not prescribed for me to take orally on a regular basis, as my doctor and the ER docs agree that PSVT is not life-threatening, so taking a med every day to possibly avoid a few episodes of it in a year is not recommended if the patient is in otherwise good health and is not panicking. My heart rate was 220, blood pressure 75/35. The 1st dose of adenosine didn't work. The EMTs doubled it and tried again and brought my heart rate down to the high 90s and bp to 100/70. Prior to taking it I felt cold and clammy, had difficulty breathing, could not stand up because of weakness/dizziness. Obviously my heart was racing. My chest hurt, my jaw hurt. After I still had some difficulty breathing but otherwise felt better. When it was being administered the 2nd time it made my chest feel more tight. My body felt worse for about 20 seconds. Adneosine isn't called the Grim Reeper for no reason. THe first time I was given this it worked brilliantly. HR was at 240 bpm. Second time I knew what I was going to experience and was terrified. It took 2 attempts but worked on the second. This medication had my life flashing before my eyes and I thought I was going to die!!! It's a terrifying experience. Does the med work, yes but blimey it's scary as hell how it makes you feel like your dying.

In the ER for tachycardia (188BPM). Given 6mg with no results, then given 12mg with absolutely wonderful results.

I was administered adenosine intravenously to end an episode of rapid heart beat four times. It was a horrible experience that made me feel like I was dying, and it did no good.

This drug was used as an injection into the artery by my cardiologist during a heart cath of my arteries. IT STOPPED MY HEART FOR ABOUT 10 SECONDS. I don't know how much was injected, the doctor says I am extremely sensitive to it. I was surprised to see that it tremendously increased another reviewers heart rate when it STOPPED my heart.

I had an episode of S.V.T. A few years ago and had Adenosine given to me they told me it might hurt but it did not it did make me feel like I got the worst possible news like a death of of a family member. Like My heart felt like it dropped to my stomach other than that no symptom's after about 1 to 30 seconds. I wish I could do better with the time it took but I was more focused on my heart and the how it made me feel and that it was beating at 200 to 275 a minute

My heart was beating at 200 times a minute. Once adenosine was adminestered,it went back to normal beats right away. I felt so much better right away. THANK YOU!

Went to ER three times for rapid heart beat. First time, 170, no medicine required. Second time, 200 and 6mg of adenosine, heart returned to normal immediately. Little discomfort, chest tightening and dizziness for a few seconds. Third time, heart rate was 170 and 6 mg adenosine. Didn't take this time, was given 12 mg and slowed heart rate. Chest pressure and dizziness was a bit longer, as well as nausea. Doctors immediately administered anti nausea drug in IV and I felt better. scheduled for a stress test. once completed a couple hours after being home, I started coughing up brite red blood. Dr said never heard of such a thing. I asked what did they inject in me and they said adenosine. Never had any such results from the drug. I told them to report this. I did return to hospital to show dr what happened when I coughed. Never had the problem again. That was in 2009.

Heart racing for 5+ hours. At ER, Pulse 175, BP 187. Tried bearing down, coughing, but no effect. As soon as received adenosine, chest pain, but after a few deep breaths, started to feel better. BP dropped immediately to 70's.

Adenosine nuclear scan - intravenous drip lasting 6 minutes. I have given just one star for each above category because there were no opportunities to give it a negative score. I was injected with adenosine during a nuclear scan for a possible heart problem - incidentally which I don't have. I was warned by the doctor that most people only had slight reactions to this and that a very tiny minority had more serious ones. They could not get the drip into my veins. They must have tried about 9 times before they succeeded. This was very very unpleasant even before the drip started. Just after the first 15 secs the reactions set in. Light head, dry mouth, burning throat, vomiting, couldn't see, couldn't speak, arms and legs went limp and numb, jaw clenched, teeth chattering loudly, screaming in agony. They would not stop the test because I only had 2 more minutes of it and as I couldn't speak I couldnt tell them to stop. At the time I believed I was dying and that they would do nothing to stop. Was in hospital ER for tachycardia. They administered adenosine to slow my heart rate, but it did just the opposite. Heart went from 135 beats per minute to 232 beats per minute and also completely through it out of a normal rhythm. Absolutely terrifying. ER doctors say they never saw anything like it before.
