I am a 58 year old Licensed Nurse. I have degenerative disc and joint issues & post piriformis muscle release sciatic nerve pressure consistently. I was told five years ago I could never work in my profession again. I can honestly state without my 600mg of Gabapentin in the morning and 1200mg at night I would never get any sleep and would be suicidal over the pain levels. This drug is a Godse...

This medication made it nearly impossible to live any kind of life, makes me dizzy, lightheaded, and my face numb.....This medication never did anything for pain, (Neuropathy), or anything else for that matter. Crap Drug, should be flushed down the toilet, along with the Dr. that prescribed it!!!

I was recently prescribed Neurontin after several visits to my doctor with unbearable nerve, muscle pain all over my body, I also have plantar fasciitis, which makes it difficult to stand and walk any distance, this couples with osteoarthritis in all my joints has had a huge impact of my quality of life over the past 18 months.I have been in tears most days with the pain as regular pain killers are hugely ineffective. Neurontin worked almost immediately, it was like a mini miracle, I can move my arms and legs without severe pain, the stabbing pains have stopped and its even helped relieve my plantar fasciitis, first time in almost 2 years.Yes it makes you feel a bit woozy and forgetful but better that than unbearable pain 24 hours a day. I'm so grateful to my doctor for recommending it, I could hug her, and I really could NOW without wincing with pain. Read More Read Less

I have used this medication before in higher dosages so id recommend talking to a psychiatrist about this but i hope someone get benefitted from this review. I have taken said medication for almost a 2 year period it tends to make you feel happy naturally, as well as create a stabler mood. i have been diagnosed with a mood disorder with semi-bipolar like symptoms. It helps stabilize mood as well as make you feel happier i used it while in a transition state of medications and it helped a lot. Id recommend trying this if you are running out of options it may not solve your problems but you will feel better by at least a bit .Read More Read Less

This drug would be good except it makes my hair fall out and upon researching, it is a common enough side effect. Otherwise, it did help sciatic pain in my back but relieved it only, didn't get rid of it.

I am taking this medication to help with fibromyalgia. I have pain in all of my joints and headaches daily. This medication does not help the headaches but it helps the pain in the rest of my body. It also helps my RLS... although if I take any amount of benedryl to help with sleep the RLS comes back. Neurontin combined with Marijuana has pretty much cured my symptoms. I am more active now and just started working out again!

I started this medication due to frozen shoulder and rotator cuff tendinopathy. At first it helped, then all of a sudden I had bad side effects from it. Fortunately, I realized that the side effects only began when I started a new bottle that was from a different manufacturer (read: lowest bidder overseas). When I went back to the manufacturer of my first batch, the side effects disappeared. i have been on it 10 months now as my shoulder has slowly improved. God knows what fillers I put into my body from that 2nd batch from the lowest bidder manufacturer. Read More Read Less

I have suffered from back pain for years. I have spinal problems, too many to post. So far this medicine is alright, but I stll have terrible pain from time to time, and feel I could use another medication to help it address the pain that won't go away. I also been told it's good for anxiety.??? I suffer from this and Bipolar depression. I will post at a later date to let everyone knows how it helps.?

Have had a stroke and MI, so on meds for BP (although mine has always been low), cholesterol, and blood thinner. Also been taking meds for depression. Neurologist prescribed Neurontin (building up to 300 mg per day) to make me happier. After 3 days of 100 mg and 3 days of 200 mg, I had to quit. I was dizzy, had blurred vision, had trouble walking and thinking, and felt weird and like a zombie. I stopped the drug after the first 6 days and ended up in ER on day 8 feeling like I might be having a stroke or something. After negative CT Scan and MRI, the doctors determined that I had a reaction to Neurontin. Maybe it reacted with my other meds; I will not take any more Neurontin!!Read More Read Less

I have been using Gabapentin oral for over 10 years, at first it took care of my nerve pain. But then I notice that I seem forgetful, my mind would wonder off and I wouldn't remember to take my medicines, or what appointments I had. My doctor at the time told me I didn't have true alzheimers, or dementia so she could not prescribed me anything to help with my memory. She said it was a side effect from one or two of my medicines. I have since found out that Gabapentin was one of the medicines that gave me memory problems. She would not change my medicine. She said there is not anything on the market that can treat nerve pain as good as Gabapentin even though it has side effects that different people may or may not get. I started out on taking one then eventually went to 3 -300 mgs per night. But I took myself off and went back to one and on occasion I take 2. But my memory is not so bad as it was, and I do have to take 2 just to keep my nerve pain at bay, and it is a challenge. But I am hoping that they will discover a new nerve drug that won't have so many side effects. I am also a severe diabetic, and I also have severe Restless Legs Syndrome with Periodic Limb Movement Disorder. All medicines do have side effects, but I had to make the decision, Do I want to have memory problems or concentration problems,or do I want to suffer from nerve pain? I had to do what I thought I had to do and that is cutting down on the dosage to see if there is a difference. Yes there is a difference in my memory. I can't get back to before I started taking Gabapentin, but I am improving my memory, while keeping my nerve pain at bay. On every third day I take 2 Gabapentins, then all the rest I take one Gabapentin with 2 Ropinorole's, Then on the day I take 2 Gabapentin's, I take one Ropinorole. It seems to help my legs, and my memory. Of course I have had some bad days, but I know it isn't going to last, and I know what to do.Read More Read Less

i'm a 67 year old man who got painful herpes zoster shingles of the right eye 9 months ago. The swelling of the eye and pain in the forehead was indescribably bad and had me considerin taking my life. Very little relief when i took opiates which cause severe constipation. Have been taking 200 mg of neurontin/gabapentin 4 times daily for several months. Very quick effective pain relief. Also take acylovir to help kill the very strong stubborn virus. Dizziness, some weight gain but both manageable and i'll take them over a pain i can only describe as agony--it's as if 100 hornets were placed in my eye and forehead. I am concerned that i see by other user reviews to be careful with blood pressure med and anti depressants both of which i'm on, for interaction. Thanks for this site for real world real people information. And by the way if you've had childhood chicken pox i BEG you get a shingles shot. It hits 1/3rd of people over 50 and the pain is beyond belief. I only half joke to my wife and family i'd kiss whoever perfected gabapentin square on the mouth, male or female! It DOES make you sometimes forget certain things but nothing i can't live with and again for me benefits outweigh side effects big time.Read More Read Less

Of course we all want to be pain free. I got shingles 5 weeks ago and the pain was unbearable. I am now taking Gabapentin 300mg 3x day and hydrocodone 5mg with 1 Advil gel caps. every 4 hrs.The side effects are dizziness, difficulty with memory and unsteadiness. Much better than the pain I had I'll take the side effects anyday over that pain. My pain is no longer unbearable. I want to wean off but am quite frankly scared of the pain.I know I will have to try soon. Hoping for the best.Shingles can be totally horrible.Read More Read Less

I have been taking 1800mg of Neurontin (Gabapentin) for over 5 years with tremendous success. It was first prescribed to me when shards of bone damaged the nerve around my L5/S1 disc. Post-op (I had a discetomy and laminectomy) the nerve feeling never returned, and I continued to be plagued by intense pain in my foot and ankle (stabbing sensation, creepy-crawlies, tingling - those often accompanying herniated discs.) Heavy narcotic pain relievers did not dampen the pain at all. Neurontin was the first thing that eliminated this pain, and allowed me to return to my "normal" life. Thankfully I've not been plagued by any of the side-effects that impact so many. I have my liver and kidney functions checked every 6 months to ensure there is no change in their performance. I'm fully-aware that someday my body may "reject" this wonder-drug and I'll need to find an alternative treatment (my neurologist indicated an electrode-implant of some type). But until then, I stand by Neurontin. For me; it's been a god-send.Read More Read Less

I'm prescribed 600 mg 3x day. It seems to help and has no other side effects. My daughters and others told me they got tired after taking it. Never the case for me.

I had several operations following a femoral artery bypass due to infections. Severe nerve damage incurred. Just started this medication and it has taken the feeling of being continually electrocuted in my leg away alot. Hoping continued use will stop the pain altogether.

For fibromyalgia. First started with 5-7 lb weight gain. Now up to 20 lbs overweight the first time in my life. Weaning off now. Can't stand the weight gain. Praying my pain and sleep won't be bad. Won't take lyrica because the same side effects.

I just started this medication last night 6/17/15 300mg. Today is the first day I awoke with minimal pain. I had back surgery twice, 360 lumbar fusion for degenerative disc. My feet are still numb, burning, but my back pain is almost gone. What a relief! Time will tell if this med will continue to be effective. I will update as time goes on. For the present, I'm thrilled!!!
