I am a 58 year old Licensed Nurse. I have degenerative disc and joint issues & post piriformis muscle release sciatic nerve pressure consistently. I was told five years ago I could never work in my profession again. I can honestly state without my 600mg of Gabapentin in the morning and 1200mg at night I would never get any sleep and would be suicidal over the pain levels. This drug is a Godse...

This medication made it nearly impossible to live any kind of life, makes me dizzy, lightheaded, and my face numb.....This medication never did anything for pain, (Neuropathy), or anything else for that matter. Crap Drug, should be flushed down the toilet, along with the Dr. that prescribed it!!!

I have Fibromyalgia and nerve damage. I'm 34 years old. My rheumatologist put me on gabapentin to try to ease my severe pain. Low doses couldn't even make a tiny difference. We worked our way up to 1600mg daily. My pain eased by 30% but the side effects were awful. Cognitive impairment, I was constantly forgetting things like I had dementia. I couldn't concentrate or articulate what I wanted to say. I lived in a state of constant confusion. Eventually I developed tinnitus that has not gone away even after quitting the medication. Withdrawal was absolute hell!! Nausea, anxiety, panic attacks, hot and cold flashes. I would pace around the house. Extreme fatigue and sweating. Mood swings. Heart palpitations. This drug changes your brain chemistry and it CAN BE ADDICTIVE. Anyone who says otherwise is a fool. Do some homework on the matter. This drug should be taken off the market.Read More Read Less

This medication worked great on my lower back for the first 6 or 7 days, then it caused my legs and ankles to swell badly. A scratch on my leg constantly oozed fluid. The doctor told me to stop taking it, but now I hurt worse than I did! And I am still swollen!

I take 600 mg 2-3 times a day and it works wonders for the pain in my legs. I had major lower back surgery which left me with lingering pain throughout my legs. Without this medication I can barely walk. Depending on my pain level for the day depends on whether I take 2 or 3 times. Most days I can get away with only taking it twice.

I noticed more severe pain if I wake in the morning, rushing to get to an appointment, and forget to take my medication. I end up hardly able to walk as the pain is so bad! As long as I keep it in my system as directed, it keeps the pain level very low.

I have had idiopathic neuropathy for 15 years. I take 3 400 mg capsules twice daily. I've had no noticeable side effects, except I had to increase dose about 3 years ago. It has been a lifesaver for me.

I had a severed Ulnar nerve after being shot in the arm. I had a nerve graft on the ulnar nerve. Once the nerve began to regenerate I was (am) in constant almost unbearable pain. Neurontin is a miracle drug for me. Although the pain is still present it is dulled immensely. My only negative comment on this drug is that the side effects are pretty intense. When I first began it, I was extremely forgetful and could not put a thought or sentence together. This had decreased over time. I also am a bit more irritable on this medication. The side effects are worth it for me.Read More Read Less

I have been taking this medication for 2 months and sometimes the side effects can be unbearable. When this happens I reduce the dose by 300mg per day. When I first started this there was a significant change in symptoms but since then things have stayed the same. I am unsure about keeping this going because I am concerned about some of the potentially dangerous side effects and don't want to stop it all at once due to the warnings about that too. I have spoken with the doctor and he is a bit dismissive so the only thing I can think of is to listen to my body and be cautious about decreasing the dose to quickly. Read More Read Less

Initially getting up to dose was a challenge with excessive sleepiness, dizziness. Once I got to full dose of 300mg/3 x daily it is fine. While I still have tremors during the day and nightly it is definitely reduced. I love this med! I have suffered for 10 years with various meds that have not helped this much. Hope to raise dosage when see neuro. next month as when wearing off the tremors increase; this happens if I take dose late as well. Works far better than Mirapex, clonazapan and carbo/levopopa for me. Side benefit is that I now have some feeling in my feet! I now get about 5 hours of sleep - this is a big improvement. I am a 61 year old male with a t8 compression fracture with severe radiating pain to the front of my ribs. Just got this drug 3 days ago, 300mg twice a day. Brought the pain level from a 9 to a 2. I hope it keeps working cause I need to get back to work. I am very satisfied so far.

Used for long lasting pain in thighs caused with any extended standing in 1 position. The pain would be almost non-stop and could last for months. I find this medicine 95% effective for me having had shingles previously.

I was taking this medication for about 2 months for nerve issues in my neck and then I began have memory issues. I was unable to remember simple words and would get stuck every 4th sentence or so. At first I thought I had had a stroke but then reviewed my medication and found that memory issues or "word hunting" are a possible side effect. It has been a year since I stopped and I am still having problems finding words at times. I feel mentally impaired and don't think it will ever get back to normal fully.Read More Read Less

I have been using this medication to treat my fibromyalgia. It has been a miracle drug for me. I do not have the stiffness, joint pain and bone pain that I was experiencing. It has also helped somewhat with my restless leg. I am currently taking 300mg 3x day. This has been my magic dose/frequency. I have tried others with no relief.

I have Shingles, on the 5th day I had pain so bad I could no longer sleep, a rash on left side front and back. I started on an antiviral on the 3rd day, which now at over a week is starting to lessen the symptoms of pain and red rash with blisters. But that gabapertin did not help at all with the pain, and caused anxiety and irritation. I asked my doctors office, Intermed, to take note of it for the manufacturer, but they said they don't do that, that its up to the manufacturer, which made no sense, if the doctors who prescribe it don't inform the manufacturer, how would the manufacturer know? The medicine is bad news, didn't work for me at all, in fact it made me feel worse.Read More Read Less

I have read and can now confirm from my experience , that this drug has significant side effects . Immdiately after starting drug I developed intense joint pain , especially knees. And immediately after stopping this drug, the joint pain went away. This appears to be compounded if there are joint issues to start with .

Gabapentin is a must have for me. Anytime I am in the hospital and it is past my dose time I start asking for it immediately. It works so well for me I cannot do without it. I take 600 mg tablets 3 times a day. Morning, late afternoon and at bedtime. If I forget to take my neurontin I can not sleep without it because the burning, needling, and shocks of pain are constant until I take it. I have been using this drug for close to 20 years.
