I have had several surgeries (both knees replaced, hip replaced, shoulders with bone chips & calcium deposits) and suffer from arthritis of the joints. Several times I caught up in the addition of narcotics for both pain & pleasure. What have significantly helped me was a mix of percoset and methadose. I no longer have the desire to over-medicate and it takes some of constant pain away. This combin...

I have lived in chronic pain for over 10 years now. I take ~ 54 pain meds scattered throught the day. This is not something I'm proud of but the pain is just too much. Several back surgeries with h/w in lower back and neck, did not releive the pain, acyually made it worse. Any and all doctors that say "It is in your head" is an uncaring person. There is true pain. I don't wish this on anyone, but if they experienced what I have to live with, for a day, would do the same thing. Thank God for CARING doctors!!! I do believe that healing still exists, and would gladly go back to a pain free life. But for now, what am I to do?Read More Read Less

I have Spinal Stenosis and have been through the gamut of treatments. When I switched to Methadone 90% releif in 3 days. I now have my life back. Also taking more does not result in euphoria (like Oxycodone).

Before I had gotten onto a Methadone clinic, I had no hope, I thought I was going to have to be a herion addict all my life. I had tried to stop on my own but I couldn't. Luckily I have an older brother who used to use that told me about the methadone clinic and it has changed me so much. I honestly don't know what I would of done without this methadone. I am SOOO Grateful. Thank you Lord.

My doctor was trying to honor a request to get me off Morphine. I went into remission and did not need end of life medications any longer. While taking Methadone, I began having problems with less urine output. At about 3 months on this drug, I added breathing difficulties and during the last two weeks, I experienced confusion just after I got off the Morphine. Then WalMart gave me Methadose instead of Methadone and the symptoms with confusion and reduced urination became markedly worse. I also am a heart, liver and lung patient, and all three of these are listed as risk factors for taking this medication. I also take the antidepressant drug, Sertaline. I feel that doctors do not research the side effects before prescribing this type of medication. I was doing ok weaning my self off the Morphine by gradually reducing the dose. I had some withdrawal of course, but nothing like the type of problems I am experiencing with this drug. It is a scary drug. RIght now, only 30 min after my dose, my heart is beating irregularly. My respiration has slowed to 16. I am going to try to wean off this drug too and maybe go back to a lesser dose of the Morphine. At least with it, I didn't have any side effects. The decision to stop these drugs was mine in the first place..Read More Read Less

been in a methodone clinic for 3 years and i am finally seeing light at the end of the tunnel.the highest dose i have taken is easily over150 mg but ive managed to ease myself downto 20 mg and have had no serious withdrawal so far. methadone has allowed me to realize how important it is for me to stay sober.i realize i have many laps left to race but i thank methadone for giving me a choice in my decisions after many years addicted to opiates and herion.god bless

I have been trying to slowly wean myself off of methadone due to a severe chronic pain condition I have. I want to go on a spinal pump so the meds are no longer going through my blood stream and brain. I've been taking heavy duty opids for over 6 yrs now and want to see if my muscles still hurt like they did before all this medication. I was taking 6, 10mg pills per day for last 3 yrs now, and have weaned myself off the first 4 pills with no problem. But whenever I try to take away the 5th pill, which I usually take at 11pm, by 1am I am sweating, having severe hot/cold sweats, trembling, and muscles are spasming up real bad despite the fact I started taking fexeril at 9:30am and 1 at 11pm. It still hasn't helped. After going through this for 7 days I finally took a methadone pill at 11pm to see if it took away the symtoms and it worked. Now again I'm on my 3rd day of no methadone at 11pm and the symtoms are getting SO BAD. Why was it SO easy to eliminate the first 4 pills but not the last 2 pills? How long must I endure the awful pain in my muscles after stopping the meds? I'm just not sure how long I can stand this and my Dr just keeps saying I should be just find, and all of the symtoms are just in my mind! IS HE KINDING? I have no one to guide me on this. Please help! Would I be better off taking a milder opid for a while, and THEN wean myself of of IT? Thank You for anyone that can help me.Read More Read Less

The only problem is that I have "hot flashes" about 15-20 times every 24 hours while taking this medication. My dosage is 7.5 mg twice daily. No other problems noted. It has been very effective in treating the pain.

I am living a much safer life style, but I think methadone is best used along with alot of commitment from the addict to work towards getting off drugs. Because like any chemical it has its' bad side effects. And if a user is not committed to their sobriety they will mix this drug with others to create lethal cocktails. I am weaning myself, I had to become aggressive because I believe for some of the clinics its all about $, making them no better than the "man" on the street. In fact, the clinic I transferred from, it's Dr. and founder is in prison and has lost his liscense to practice. I was so excited to hear this man was opening a cliinc about 65 miles away from my house, that meant 130 mi. round trip until I got my priviledges. It was all about $. I asked weekly for decreasers, finally I found a private Dr. who is got me down to 60 mg. from 200 mg daily. Much safer, people need to read about what is going in to there body whether you were once an abuser or not, in fact it is pertinant for people in recovery to be more anal about what there taking along with their methadone."ANNA NICOLE SMITH" I will leave you with that to ponder.Read More Read Less
