I take Amitiza twice a day. It helps me have 4 to 5 bowel movements a week. I was only going once a week before and the straining was terrible. I have a predictable movement instead of the explosive bowel movements I get with linzess or laxatives.

While the medicine did what it is supposed to do, I had a severe reaction to it. The side-effects mentioned the possibility of "chest tightness" & that is what happened. I was on the medicine for3 days and each day the symptom got worse. Even after quitting, the sensation that I had severe chest congestion remained. I have been off of it for over 3 weeks now and still have that sensation when ta...

Amitiza works for me and somethings it doesn't. I was one of the first few to take this drug. I had to go to Baylor in Dallas, Tx. to get it. I wish the FDA would put Zelnorm back on the market. That drug was a life saver. I've had to quit my job I have IBS so bad. Some days I can't get out of bed I'm so sick with cramping, bloating, weak.

I am taking this medication after 6 months of acute constipation. I am going to have a breath test with Lactulose, to determine if I have an overgrowth of bacteria. I certainly hope that I do, so that this can be corrected. The only problem with the Amiteza is that it creates a liquid stool. AT first the gas and abd noise was huge, but that has simmered down. So, the plus is that I am actually having a bowel movement. The down side is that it is liquid and when I have to go, it is urgent.

I have IBS and at first this medication was wonderful. But like other medications, after one month I am back to using laxitives once again. I did experience the need tohave a movement about 20 minutes after taking the medication. Now I have bloating and discomfort.

I am an 84 year old male. I have dificulty having bowel movements easily. I have been taking this medication (24mcg, 2 times daily AM/PM) for about 2 weeks. It works good--too good! I now have very loose stools in the mornings. The BM will start about 90 minutes after taking the pill. There is supposed to be a lower dose version (8mcg) coming out soon. I hope this dosage will not produce the loose stools. I haven't hade any other side effects from this medication yet.

While this drug is extremely helpful in relieving constipation, it has caused me intense nausea, diaharrea and gas- the nausea being the worse. I recommend taking at night because when I took it in the morning I was nauseated all day at work. It also causing a burning pain in my throat when I take it and my co-worker takes this medicine as well and has experienced the same pain. Overall, Amitiza works, but be prepared for some intense side effects.

I have been on this medication for one week. It has relieved my chronic constipation but replaced it with loose stools bordering on diarrhea. My doctor prescribed taking the drug 2x daily. However, this produced very, loose stools, painful gas and stomach discomfort. I reduced the dosage to 1x daily and noticed some improvement. Since reducing the dosage, I have less gas, my stools are more firm, and I have little to no stomach discomfort.
