I take Amitiza twice a day. It helps me have 4 to 5 bowel movements a week. I was only going once a week before and the straining was terrible. I have a predictable movement instead of the explosive bowel movements I get with linzess or laxatives.

While the medicine did what it is supposed to do, I had a severe reaction to it. The side-effects mentioned the possibility of "chest tightness" & that is what happened. I was on the medicine for3 days and each day the symptom got worse. Even after quitting, the sensation that I had severe chest congestion remained. I have been off of it for over 3 weeks now and still have that sensation when ta...

Just started on it. Seems to be working with out any side effects as of yet. I only take it once a day to be on the safe side and still seem to get results from that once a day use.

I am able to relieve myself on a regular basis with ease. Adding enough water throughout the day plus exercise has helped also. My fear is the need for long term treatment since has to be approved by my insurance.

This medication worked wonders in that it finally produced some relief after spending years trying endless unsuccessful treatments. Unfortunately, this relief was short lived, and after two weeks of working miracles, I've been left back at square one.

I suggest starting out on a small dose cause it has caused me to have some dizzy and nausea. But it has worked great I finally after years of being constipated I can have a normal bowl movement.

I have been giving this medication to my 88 year old mother. It has not worked well for her. She only has one bowel movement a week and then only a small amount. The movement does not look like she is constipated. It is loose and has no appearance of what you would expect from someone that hasn't went in a week. When she does go it is only after using supositories.

I quit taking it the first time around since it made me drowsy. I decided to give it another go several months later and to keep taking it to see if the sleepiness slowly goes away. Some success within the first two days, but very lethargic.

This is my 3rd day on Amitiza and I will not be able to take 24mcgs twice a day. All I do is sleep. Within 1 hour of taking it I have to lay down. It works well and relieves my constipation, the first drug that has helped me. I will ask my DR if I can get the lower dose. Maybe that will be OK. It feels like I took a muscle relaxer as the side effects occur so quickly.

I started taking Amitiza, or its generic form two years ago after Zelnorm was recalled. Although I don't find it as effective as Zelnorm, it is a great product! you don't realize how well it is working until you stop taking it. I take two at night time and have a bowel movement every morning. I highly recommend it!!!

I have been using Amitiza for almost a week and I thought that the side effects would lessen as days go by, but the effects are more intense now than in the beginning. The side effects that I have endured are as follows: severe nausea, very bad headache, fast heart rate, dizziness, terrible reflux (to the point that I had to double my medicine for this), hives all over, sleeplessness, fatigue, weak eyes (when I get sick, my eyes are the first to show how ill I am) and no relief for what I am taking this medicine for in the first place. I am stopping this medication and going back to my OTC, which cost a whole lot less and the side effects are nothing compared to Amitiza. I don’t know who or what they tested this drug on, but whoever or whatever did not have or give an opinion. They need to change something in this medication so that there are not so many side effects and have much better results.I would not recommend this medication for any reason. I always take with food, usually a full meal and about an hour after taking, I have difficulty breathing, a headache, dizzy and sick at my stomach. In fact, I stopped taking for a whole week, and just took it today with the same exact symptoms I had before.

i am a 30 year old woman who sometimes will not have a bowel movement for 30 or more days. ive gained 30 pounds and feel sick all the time. i strated amitiza 3 days ago and other than the cramping ive had success with it. it is amazing to actually go to the bathroom and i heard its expensive and i would pay $500 a month for it if i can feel like a normal person again. this med might have saved me, emotionally and physically.
