I showed signs of allergic reaction. Difficulty breathing start 2 days after treament. Severe swelling. After day 7 of taking medication, difficulty breathing became labored, and unable to walk 1 flight of stairs. Memory and mental capacities were greatly reduced.

I like this med, but the only problem is that 24m mcg ia too high a dose, so my doctor give me a sample of the 8 mcg to try. It works very well for me. The 24 mcg works well but it keeps me in the bathroom ALL the time. But the 8 mcg works over a couple of days time, and then that's all she wrote!!

I love this Medication! I suffered for 10 yrs with chronic constipation and major doses of OTC laxatives. I have had no major neggative side effects and only hope that a day generic form of this drug comes along soon. The worse this medication offers me personally is loose, watery stools every 4th or 5th day(a very small price to pay for relief and pain-free BM).

this medication works. however it seems hard to adjust to. im not sure of side effects,or if they eventually pass i stopped once and am back on

While I was taking this medication (amitiza) I experienced the following side effects: SEVERE headaches. NOTHING would help, not even my prescription medicine. I was unable to sleep. I had chest tightness, my depression worsend. I felt extremely tired.

Constant diareah. Going back to Miralax, which has worked the last three yrs.

It initially gave me a severe headache,but now the headaches are gone when I take it. It has helped decrease the severe pain of IBS.

I am a 37 year old with MS, IBS, chronic pancreatitis, osteoarthritis in many of my vertebrae and at least 3 slipped disks. Therefore, I am on many medications, many of which are constipating in their own right. I have been taking stool softeners and fiber supplements for over 3 years. When I started Amitiza in August 2008, I had the 24mcg dose. That proved to be too high a dose and caused major side effects. Now I am on the 8mcg dose, which is a lot better. I take it only PRN (as needed) when I go over 5 days without at BM of any kind and have tried all of my other options. This last week I took it and noticed that the roof of my mouth, my tongue and my throat were all raw and very sore (not an anaphylactic reaction). Has anyone else had this reaction? Also, I've had terrible flatulence that smells like something crawled up and died inside of me. I've also had nausea up and over what my regular meds give me. I have to cook for my family and nausea makes it very difficult to do, let alone eat what I've cooked. I won't be taking this med again anytime soon.Read More Read Less

Seemed okay for the first couple of weeks, but quit taking it due to the fact that I just didn't feel quite right. Always felt a little queasy with bloating.Also, couldn't seem to think straight anymore.

Occasional diarrhea is far superior to having to plan an evening to make myself go to the bathroom. I'm hopeful that after a few more months on this drug, I will see some further consistency. I just dont recall turnning into an old lady obsessed with her bowels.

I have taken this medication for a week now and it has worked pretty well for me. I have not experienced a single side effect. I take it in the evening with no "effects" the following day at work. Prior to Amitiza, I would be bloated and very uncomfortable by the end of the week, then locked in the house on weekends after taking laxitives. I feel normal again. I'm using the samples now and waiting for my insurance company to approve payment on the prescription.

I have taken this medication for several months and have been having horrible gas & headaches. I am done this medication has too many negative side effects!!!

I have been using this medication for about a month now. In the beginning it didn't do anything for me. But for the last two weeks I have had nothing but diarrhea and recently starting having severe abdominal pain. So I'm going to stop taking it and make a doctor's appointment.

I have Celiac Disease and Fibromyalgia, both which have caused major problems on my parastalsis. This medicine has done an awesome job in keeping me regular without the cramping from other drugs. The only draw back would be the price, I wish they would make a generic!

23yr old female, contipation for about 4 years...and finally made it to the GI doctor to get help. I am still only taking the samples but after reading these reviews I feel all the same horrible side effects. Nausea, difficulty sleeping, gas, extreme headaches, sweating at night..possibly high BP? These side effects allow me to not do my job and I seem more confused than normal... I am not continuing.

I have been on Amitiza for 30 days now. In the beginning I experienced gas but this passed, then my stools became frequent at least once a day very soft, then to like water. But nothing so unbearable to overshadow being able to get rid of waste until now.... I have had a urinary tract infection for 7 days that I can't get rid of by means of OTC, water & cranberry juice so I have a Dr. appt. tomorrow. I stopped taking this medication last night.
