I was reading some of the other reviews, about vomiting after taking a pill. If you are highly lactose intolerant, 1 pill will be OK for A PIECE of cake with milk in it or the frosting. If you are only slightly intolerant, 1 pill will be OK for a meal of pizza OR a serving of icecream. It's not magic; it all depends on what your body produces on it's own and/or how allergic/intolerant you are. And...
What a nightmare. My doctor told me to try this because I became lactose intolerant after I got a parasite in Mexico. Within 2 minutes of swallowing this pill, I turned completely red, was so hot, I asked my husband for ice. Then I got the shakes. Then I was in excruciating pain and dry heaving over the toilet for the next three hours. I finally threw up. I was sick for the next 48 hours but not ...

This is 2024 and I am reading reviews from 2014 which speak of the same terrible side effects that I have experienced in the last week. Newly diagnosed with lactose intolerance at 56, this product was recommended to me by my doctor. As many noted, I have experienced significant nausea and vomiting. Guess what? Nausea and vomiting still not listed as a possible side effect on the box. The only statement on the box is "If symptoms persist or worsen, discontinue use and talk with a doctor." Do better Johnson and Johnson!!! Read More Read Less

These pills are way too expensive for what they do lol. I wish there were a few more generics on the market. I love how the brand name tastes good as a chewable tablet.
I find they work super well for me, I take 5-6 pills before eating dairy and I don’t have vicious diarrhea and sick feelings like I normally would after eating dairy, sometimes I’ll still have a slight stomach ache if the dairy was really creamy, so I’ve started taking a few more after the meal to really help the digestion. I only need 3-4 if it’s just cheese.
To people reading these comments, keep in mind that the cause of the symptoms people mention might be the dairy, not the pills. For really creamy dairy, 1 pill is not enough to digest all the lactose. Not even 2. If you just take a little when you’re eating very heavy creamy dairy, you’re just going to delay the intolerance a bit but still get sick.
Many of the symptoms being described here sound like lactose intolerance.Read More Read Less

Took this hoping to be able to eat Easter food. 30 minutes later started feeling nauseous, 2 hours later had terrible vomiting and diarrhea. We were hosting Easter for our family. Lactaid is awful. I have had this experience previously when I took the pills but I wasn’t sure if it was food poisoning or the pills. If they had indicated these side effects on the package, it would not have ruined our day today.

Up all night for the second time in a week with my 12 year old son after taking this. He had violent vomiting and diarrhea within 2 hours of taking lactaid. I read that lactaid is produced from aspergillus mold. My son has severe asthma and mold allergies. Interesting. I personally have taken lactaid without problems for years but I’m going to stop now so this never happens to me. Furious there is no warning on this product.

Took this twice before eating a tiny bit of dairy. Both times a few hours later I was kneeling over the toilet. Sweats, vomiting and diarrhea. Took about 9 hours to get out of my system. Never again! Threw out the box!

My husband started taking this in hopes he could enjoy cheesy meals again. The first time it seemed to work. The second time he didn't feel well afterwards, so he took 2 pills The next time, thinking 1 wasn't helping. He became violently sick. Thinking it was something else he used the pills a couple days later and became sick again. Violently throwing up, diarrhea and bloating that was so painful he was sweating. I had to search on line to see if he was the only one...nope. Why is this not listed as a side effect?! Would not have purchased! Do not use!!!Read More Read Less

These made me incredibly sick, 100x more sick than just eating lactose. I’m fine with Lactaid milk and ice cream but these caplets are the equivalent of food poisoning. Awful!!!

I vomited once again after taking Lactaid. I finally started googling why this happened within 30 minutes to an hour of chewing a tablet, only to learn it was the “remedy” that made me violently ill! I’ll take digestive enzymes in the future. So extremely disappointing!

Caused severe nausea and vomiting with diarrhea. I struggle a few years ago with it and just gave up on dairy because taking Lactaid was not an option. Thought I would try again and it almost ruined my vacation. I will NEVER use this product again.

Okay, so picked these up from Amazon because I thought it would help me eat a Wendy's frosty or Ben and Jerry's without feeling ill. I'm lactose intolerant to only whole milk. I can have 2% milk and all the others.
Anyway, noticed some stomach upset after taking the product. Felt like the occasional normal response my body has after eating a pint of non dairy free Ben and Jerry's ice cream.
Then, the nausea. Almost threw up. Couldn't bend down without feeling like I might have after a minute. Still feeling a little nausea FOUR HOURS after taking the product.
Never again. This is ten times worse than my lactose intolerance normally is.Read More Read Less

VIOLENT nausea and vomiting.
How many people could have been spared the suffering of multiple episodes if this potential side effect was listed on the box? Someone should file a class action lawsuit. This is negligence in the extreme.

Why is VIOLENT VOMITING and DIARRHEA not listed as a potential side effect of Lactaid chewables???? My son had mild stomach issues and gas when consuming dairy. Have taken this product twice and twice he has been terribly ill. Vomiting and diarrhea for HOURS. We could have saved him this second round of suffering IF THIS POTENTIAL SIDE EFFECT WAS LISTED SOMEWHERE ON THE PACKAGING!!!

Same story as many of the other 1 star reviews! Lactaid makes me violently ill. It is not the lactase enzyme itself, but one of the additives in the pill that is making us all sick.
Fortunately, the other brand on the market (Lacteez) has completely different (and fewer) additives, and it works perfectly for me! So try that!

Almost immediately after taking, my child has the chills, diarreah, cold sweats, nausea and cannot move for hours! He didn't even have the chance to consume the food he took the pills for! I wouldn't have related the two, until I came here to see that everyone else is experiencing this same thing. This has happened both times my child has tried to take this for relief from dairy.
