I had the most debilitating panic attacks! I started getting them at 23 yrs old. Beforehand, I didn't even know there was such a thing! I thought I was having a heart attack (other panic-disorder sufferers know what I mean!) So, for YEARS, I would have an attack w/out any outside trigger or reason. I stopped drinking coffee, alcohol, and even thought that I was causing them from eating high-fat fo...
Until June, I have been on 6mgs of this poison for seven years. In my opinion, it is given out to easily, prescribed at high doses for too long at a time, and is highly addictive if used for most two weeks. I've been going through withdrawal for weeks and it is only the beginning of what I will endure. Just watch the videos on Youtube or Google Klonopin Withdrawal and you will be horrified. I have...

Started on Klonopin about 5 yrs. ago, in conjunction with Zoloft for depression combined with panic disorder. It absolutely worked miracles for controlling the panic disorder ( for some reason I prefer to call them anxiety attacks, sounds less severe). Initially I had been put on Celexa & Valium. At some point Zoloft replaced the Celexa, & Klonopin replaced the Valium. Good moves on both fronts. Then, Abilify was added. HUGE MISTAKE FOR ME. While initially I thought I felt better, it was almost like the 'manic' phase of bi-polar. I had a period of time where I made some bizarre life choices, became extremely selfish, but at the same time felt invincible. After one of those poor life choices backfired spectacularly, I made the connection to the Abilify. Switched psychiatrists, she took me off, & things have been much better since.Read More Read Less

Makes my brain stop at night so I can sleep. It keeps me even keel during the day. I word search which is frustrating, but I'm a high functioning "closet" BiPolar Type II patient who keeps regular appts and is compliant with my meds. I occasionally have acute on chronic episodes that I can now recognize and control with behavior modification. No easy feat! Without Klonopin I cannot sleep and experience significant withdrawal symptoms. I've tried to come off Klonopin without success. I currently take 3 mg q.HS and I started at 1 mg, so it does begin to lose its efficacy which is why I tried to switch earlier than later, but my it took 7 years to go from 1 mg to needing 3 mg, so my psychiatrist I guess isn't going to sweat it. Fine by me :-)Read More Read Less

People. Yes this med will help anxiety, panic attacks. The problem is it has led me to severe depression, hair loss, skin problems and just totally screwed up my CNS. I am lethargic, unable to work now etc. This is a warning. Benzo meds are very hard to discontinue. Ive been tapering for months and have a long way to go. I can only hope and pray that the depression and lethargy will lift some day. I have lost my life due to this drug. I pray at night to just die and dread everyday. If I knew then what I know now I would have went down a different road to help my anxiety disorder. Please investigate other alternatives and do your research on the web before using as I should have.Read More Read Less

I have generalized anxiety disorder and have been taking this for many years. My situation changed for the worse, a lot worse, and so my dosage was upped. My anxiety, although not cured, is much better. I have other disagnoses which of course complicates matters. But I have no problem taking this drug. Yes I know it is addictive but I don't really care. I have no plans of going off of it and if I ever should I know it will be a seaning process. I think maybe some people try to wean too fast; if you go slow you will be ok. My prescription is for three 1 mg tabs per day. I have been taking two but lately have been very nervous so I decided to go up to the three. I took two at night instead of 3 throughout the day because I have trouble remembering to take pills midday. I was very tired the next AM. So I will have to try and remember the midday pill. I have no trouble recommending this drug.Read More Read Less

I have suffered from anxiety and severe panic attacks most of my life, and klonopin has worked wonders at helping calm me and feel 'normal' again! I take .50-.75 mg once a day and it has allowed me to function fine with no side effects or drowsiness.

When I started having panic attacks I had no idea what it was. I thought I was having a heart attack despite only being in my 20s, and went to the ER twice. The second time, one of the doctors recommended I see a psychiatrist. Although I didn't think it was all in my head, I took his advice and made an appointment. I remember being in the waiting room, pacing, wishing I would just fall to the floor unconscious. The psychiatrist diagnosed me with panic disorder and started Klonopin .5 twice a day. She said it was the drug with the highest hit rate. My god...I couldn't believe it. After suffering for such a long time, I was finally free of the panic! I was slightly drowsy for two days, and then no side effects whatsoever except the relief from the horror. The medication allowed me to get back to my life, and glad to do so. I have been on Klonopin almost 25 years now. I take 3 or 4 mg per day. As the years have passed, and I have moved and gotten new doctors, often they have tried many different drugs, but not only have these never worked, but have made matters worse in a couple of cases. I wish I didn't have this disease. I am just glad that there was a medical solution or I would have killed myself, that's how bad it was. Klonopin saved me.Read More Read Less

I have fibromyalgia, complicated by chronic migraine and insomnia. Traditional muscle relaxers like Flexeril and Skelaxin had no effect on the muscle pain I have all of the time. My first doctor has me taking Valium, but it left me with a hungover feeling, and a "I don't care" mentality. Klonopin is a godsend. It works to relax my muscles, and also helps me to sleep through the night. I take 1 tablet when I get up for muscle pain, 1 tablet in the afternoon, and 2 at night to keep me asleep. FMS is complicated by patients not getting to a deep, restorative sleep stage. In my case, my mind just won't switch off at bedtime. With Klonopin, I can take my pills, and I will be deeply asleep in about 30 minutes. On the few occasions that I didn't take it, I have never suffered withdrawal symptoms, and it doesn't leave me with a dopey, hungover feeling in the morning. It made the difference between me not being able to work, and getting sleep and working full time. When taken during the day, it does not make me sleepy or scattered.Read More Read Less

Klonopin is the most dangerous drug on this planet. Not only won't the Doctor's tell you it's highly addictive but you will want to blow your brains out when going through withdrawals from it and no doctor, therapist, or psychiatrist will inform you just how truamatizing the withdrawal will be. It was like the absolute worst acid trip I've ever been on and no Doctor, therapist or psychiatrist will help you. They will leave you to go through this hellacious withdrawal at home, totally alone. Klonopin withdrawal forced me to have to make the decision of either continue living in a world filled with nothing more than excruciating pain, terror, anxiety and fear or DIE, and I prayed so hard for death. It is criminal that this drug is even legal. And it's worse that not one single professional will tell you a damn thing. The National guidelines for prescribing this Benzo is 2-4 weeks. Then why in the hell has my psychiatrist had me on it for over 8 years, along with millions of others ????Read More Read Less

I had been diagnosed with acute anxiety disorder in my early 20's (I'm now almost 40). In my opinion I would rate Klonopin at the top of all benzodiazepines (and i've tried almost all of them) as it has a relatively long half-life (lasts longer than most benzos). I have been taking .25mg (1/2 of a .5mg tablet) daily for nearly a decade now, and I have had no urge or need to increase my dosage (although it does take discipline to take the absolutely smallest effective amount without wanting to experiment with more). This dosage, combined with regular cardio excercise, has eliminated what was once extreme debilitating panic/anxiety. If you're going to start this medication, take small amounts (experiment with the smallest dosage possible that still remedies your anxiety, etc). Don't ever get into the habit of taking more, and stay indifferent to people, doctors, the media, etc, who criticize the use of this medication. Become comfortable with the likelihood that you may need to take this medication permanently. In other words, if you maintain a small daily dose regimin, there's no need to put yourself through the pain of ceasing the use of this wonderful medication. I am certain it is much more harmful to stop taking this medication than it would be to continue to use it responsibly for a life-time.Read More Read Less

This is the most dangerous drug in America. Not only will the Dr's not tell you your' going to become addicted to it over time but they won't tell you about the Tolerance Withdrawals either or how deadly and absolutely terrifying the withdrawals will be. They will leave you to go through the worst nightmare you've ever been in. Your going to pray for death. I know, I've been there.
