I was diagnosed with stage 1 PBC in 9/2005. It took about 12 months for my numbers to return to normal but since then, all tests have been normal. My only side effect has been an upset stomach when taken without food; easily remedied by taking with meals. I take 500 mg twice a day. Once in a while I miss a dose. I never take both doses at the same time (full 1000mg). Tried it once and made me n...
I use this an Ursodiol cannot tell the difference in the two. At least they are working - last 2 Meld scores were 6, that's a great number for a PBC patient.

I've been prescribed Urso Forte since 2008 and it has taken this long to see a moderating reduction in my liver enzymes, particulary alkaline phosphatase. So it works, but it takes time and this varies greatly among PBC patients.

I have been on Urso Forte for almost 3 years since being diagnosed. (500mg twice a day) and my blood work has been good. I do notice thinning hair as a side effect. I also have slight discomfort around by rib cage above the liver. Take advice and dont read then internet, and listen to your Drs. advice. Currently there are no other meds for this disease. I have contacted local NJ and PA hospitals to see if there are any trials on meds for PBC, but there are not. In the near future I would like to raise funds and awareness for others newly diagnosed.Read More Read Less

The meds have kept me at a stage 3, I am very happy with that. Side effects are hair loss, dry mouth & eyes, nausea if not taken with a meal. On occasion when my drug benefits run out, I have purchased this drug from a Canadian pharmacy, it is about half the price as in the US.

i was diagnosed with PBC bout 15 yrs ago. i have severe itching (Pruritus)24/7, cotton mouth, hair loss. had to go to Drs.every 6mths for check ups i never had a normal check up. levels were always elevated. now my biggest problem is i have no insurance and i can't afford my meds 2 keep it from progressing cause it cost over $400 mthly w/o insurance. i can't seem 2 get any help from anyone. i haven't been 2 the Drs. in almost 2 yrs for my check ups and been off my meds for over a year. i just don't know what to do anymore. i just keep getting sicker everyday.Read More Read Less

I have been on this medication for almost 10 years, 3 times a day and hadn't noticed any side effects other then some hair thinning. My condition has been listed as inactive and stable. I really haven't noticed any side effects although in the last year I was diagnosed with Osteoarthritis and Lupus which is another auto-immune disease. The side effcts from the arthritis and lupus almost mirror the Urso side effects so now I couldn't tell if the Urso is causing them.

The worst side effect so far, after being on this drug for 1 1/2 yrs is hair loss. My thick hair is thinner, more straight than curl. I don't like it, but cannot stop taking it. So far its worked on the blood levels.

My mom has been taking Urso Forte for years with good results with her liver. Urso Diol is the generic now and unfortunately she is allergic to the generic.
