I had C-Diff caused by taking antibotics prescribed for a sinus infection. It upset the balance of good vs. bad bacteria in my system. The bad bacteria took over my intestines, resulting in pain and explosive diarrhea. After a colonoscopy and other antibotic treatments for 3 months I was prescribed the Xifaxan. The symptoms started to clear within a week. I am on my last week of a 4 week prescri...

Overall this med is ok but I also found an over the counter med for IBS brand name TRP IBS (speller out) therapy. Homeopathic which is fast dissolving & may help if taken as soon as U notice symptoms returning for those small periods of upset

This is the most amazing drug!!! expensive but worth it! had a HE episode that put me in a coma for 3 days, 1 week to get back to reality a Gastro Dr. in Chicago told my brother to tell my Gastro Dr. to use this drug instead of neomycin. miracle drug. Have been taking this for 5 years with no HE episodes. Knock on wood. If you need it try it Hopefully it will work with no side affects.

This drug provides relief from intermittent severe IBS-diarrhea. I started the drug in Jan 2013 and the effects last 9-12 weeks. I am in constant fear that it will stop working.

Other antibiotic treatment in that past has worked well for me. I'm on a two week course and IBS symptoms are improving. The worst side effect has been fatigue. It's worth it. Take this with a probiotic! This is a very strong antibiotic.

CHRONIC FATIGUE SYNDROME!! To my gastro doc's and my amazement, after 2 or 3 days on 550 mg 3X a day for SIBO and IBS and gastroparesis, my CFS symptoms lifted and I felt much better. Apparently the overgrowth of bacteria sent toxins to my brain. Went on a treatment dose 3 separate times, always getting better on it and worse when I went off of it. So I requested a maintenance dose and my insurance approved 550 mg 2X a day. I go up to three a day as needed. Recently my CFS relapsed, I went back up to 3X a day for maybe ten days. But after going up, I was better in only 2-3 days once again. CFS doctors are experimenting with Xifaxan, especially for the high number who also have IBS, but they've failed to go the extra step of putting the patient on a maintenance dose after treatment in most cases. I've been using Xifaxan for a year and a half, no side effects at all and wonderful results. Tell CFS patients you know who have gastro problems to check into this please. They could get a dramatic improvement in CFS! Spread the word!Read More Read Less

I was prescribed Xifaxan 550mg after being diagnosed with sibo. Have taken it for 10 of the 14 days and stopped due to excessive diarrhea, and a bad fever blister that developed on upper lip. Will discuss this with my GI when I visit in a month for the follow-up. I prefer to have the sibo symptoms over the IBS symptoms, and not take the meds. Will try yogurt to replenish the good bacteria, that I might have lost.

Suffered with watery BM s for 3 or 4 years and extreme urgency .. Went to 2 different U S gastroenteroligists who did all kinds of tests and recommended colonoscopy for $$..Problem became worse visiting Senigallia, Italy E R..Doctor there prescribed NORMIX which has been used for decades there and the problem disappeared and has never returned.. One pill did the trick so now I keep them on hand just in case it returns ..

I must be the only person that HATES this drug. My dr put me on it because he said I had bacteria from my liver. Gave me 60 550mg to take 2 X aday. I took 1 the first day because of the time I got them.In total I took 6 pills in 3 days. Like to have killed me. Had severe diarrhea. It was so bad If I even moved. Had to start wearing ladies diapers. That helped a little to get to the bathroom but not alot. Couldn't do anything ,or eat anything. Bloated and cramping. Bad mucus which I still have now with blood in it. Stopped these 6 days after starting them and still can't get rid of side affects. All my dr's say is how wierd. And thats it. Has any one else had this much trouble?? And it's been a month and a half since I stopped these pills.Read More Read Less

I was two fries short of a happy meal.I ran around looking for my handbag and it was on my shoulder. My mind was a fog and I had a temper which I never had.All this has gone away.I have HE. Hang in there, the loose stools, cramping and gas have subsided. This drug has been a life saver! I never want to go through an other HE episode again, thought I was loosing my mind. Remember don't eat too much protien, this causes more ammonia build up in the blood. Talking with a nutritionist may help you in making good diet choices. Good luck all!!Read More Read Less

This medicine was not a good drug for me, it cleared my mind up alittle, but I had migrane type headaches, constipation and felt worse on it than ever, severe nausea enough to keep me from working!
