I've had severe chronic pain from arthritis and compressed nerve at L6/S1 for almost 2 decades. I've tried so many treatments and meds--and the only two to give me any relief are, Opana (now yanked in ER form :( )...and Hydromorphone. I take 4mg tid, because of the hypercautious approach my doctor takes per necessity...when I really need about every 3-4 hrs. PLEASE people who do it--QUIT ABUSING T...

Tore a tendon in my ankle, awaiting surgery. The pain is excruciating; oxycodone immediate release or hydrocodone/acetaminophen (Vicodin) are not great, but they actually relieve some pain. I'm on 4 mg every 4-6 hours of hydromorphone (Dilaudid) and I feel absolutely no pain relief what-so-ever and I am afraid to have my doc increase the dose because I'm paranoid about the possibility to stop brea...

I had a nearly fatal car accident in 2005. For the first 2 days, they kept giving me morphine which for some reason has little to no effect on me. They switched to Dilaudid and it worked remarkably well. I have been sick with a rare disease for 2 years now. The abdominal pain is absolutely excruciating when I have a "stomach migraine" which is one of the symptoms of the disease that occurs every 1-3 months. In this case I am administered a cocktail of meds with the most effective being the Dilaudid. The only bad side affect that I experience is constipation which is very treatable.Read More Read Less

Provides some relief for trigeminal neuralgia pain that is mostly uncontrollable with any pain medicine. I am deathly allergic to morphine and codeine. Nerve blocks do not help and this is my last resort since I have had 3 brain surgeries to solve the problem with only 6 months top without reasonable pain.

At the time I was given this drug I was 26. I was in the hospital because I had a cyst of my ovary that was causing sever pain. When they gave me dlaudid they gave me no warning of the side effects. It was burning through my vains. After a few minutes I was vomiting, extremely dizzy and very drowsy. I would fall asleep, stop breathing and wake up taking large gasps of air. The side effects were worse than the cyst.

I am a disabled veteran, I have had 28 operations 3 of which were spinal reconstructions, 2 were shoulder and humerus reconstructions and 2 have been knee rebuilds. For a very long time I was given the maximum dose of Percocet. Now my kidneys are leaking protein (3500). I live in daily Pain. Recently I was prescribed FENTANYL the patches do not stay on for the required time and give mild relief. I do not know what to do, I have multiple specialists at this point yet none have come up with a solution. What can I do or request from them to help me? The remainder of my surgeries involved my stomach and digestive system putting them back together as well as holes in my right hand and arm. PLEASE advise or give me a direction to pursue that has the least damaging effects on my Kidneys and liver. Read More Read Less

I have diverticulosis with occasional flare ups of diverticulitis that have been confirmed by CT scans. The pain is incredibly difficult to tolerate, practically crippling me at times - a 10 on a level from 1-10. 2 Oxycodone 5mg tabs work great to relieve the pain for about 3 hours but cause nausea. My doctor switched me to Dilaudid 4mg for pain <7-10 and 2mg for pain >7-10. No nausea but nothing else either. It was as if I had taken nothing at all. No pain relief whatsoever. I actually called my doctor wondering if it was some sort of placebo that just wasn't tricking my brain. It's absolutely ineffective. Read More Read Less

When post-op pain could not be controlled, the doctor resorted to IV dilaudid. It worked within 20 minutes and my 16 year-old daughter went from wailing to sleeping. I felt more comfortable with my child receiving this drug in the hospital where her breathing & O2 sats could be monitored. At home the oral version seems to be working well, but makes the patient somewhat loopy instead of sleepy. The pain is so effectively controlled that she is better able to tolerate physical therapy and have better range of motion.Read More Read Less

in severe pain with broken shoulder, arm and wrist; no nausea-inducing ibuprophen or acetimophen makes this somewhat better than vicodin or percocet but not as much relief as morphine or oxycontin.

I have a rare and very painful disease called Adiposis Dolorosa (hundreds of painful lymphomas size of a grain of rice to size of a golfball throughout my whole body. Hydromorphone is the only pain med that helps me. I am still in pain but nothing near what it used to be. I was bedridden for 20 years. Now I can function alot better.

Did not have bowel movement for 2 weeks while taking Miralax 2x a day & senna, then took cod liver oil & Milk of Magnesia and have been having a bowel movement constantly, day & night for 4 days so far. This drug also caused breathing difficulties, chest rattling, shortness of breath, had to take a steroid dose pack from pulmonologist & still not remedied. Called prescribing Dr. who said discontinue Exalgo. I have been a pain patient for 12 yrs. I am to experience withdrawal for 5 days til they can get me in to see him. This is a real bad drug.Read More Read Less

Have had back pain for over 20 yrs. Had a laponectomy(sp)& fusion in 1995, with modest pain improvement. After trying epidurals, and drugs from A to Z, had a Medtronics morphine infusion pump installed. Very bad decision. ump MUST be replaced after 7 yrs, according to manufacturer, necessitating another operation under general anesthesia. Morphine is terrible to take over an extended time. Finally replaced morphine with Dilaudid IV. When pump had to be turned off after 7 yrs. began taking 4mg tablets 3x/day. That worked even better than the IV. It also provided relief of other pain sources in my legs and shoulders. I can't praise Dilaudid oral enough. I wish I had been put on it before the pump was installed as it would have saved me years of Pain Specialists experimenting with procedures that were ineffective.Other pain meds I've taken caused sever constipation, as does the Dilaudid but, I finally found a solution for that by taking Lactulous liquid. Most of the improvements I have experienced have come from other pain patients, not from the Pain Specialists, whom I hold in contempt for their lack of patient information regarding treatment for side effects which are ancillary to the medications. The itching which comes from opiates is moderate when compared to other opiate meds. But, as others have said, it will keep you awake for about six hours after taking so, I take my last pill at 3 PM. It does not cause an anxious period of being awake. One can lie in bed and be content. Read More Read Less
