I've had severe chronic pain from arthritis and compressed nerve at L6/S1 for almost 2 decades. I've tried so many treatments and meds--and the only two to give me any relief are, Opana (now yanked in ER form :( )...and Hydromorphone. I take 4mg tid, because of the hypercautious approach my doctor takes per necessity...when I really need about every 3-4 hrs. PLEASE people who do it--QUIT ABUSING T...
Tore a tendon in my ankle, awaiting surgery. The pain is excruciating; oxycodone immediate release or hydrocodone/acetaminophen (Vicodin) are not great, but they actually relieve some pain. I'm on 4 mg every 4-6 hours of hydromorphone (Dilaudid) and I feel absolutely no pain relief what-so-ever and I am afraid to have my doc increase the dose because I'm paranoid about the possibility to stop brea...

I have chronic back and neck pain along with abdominal pain. I'm not allowed OTC pain relievers, and was tried out on Vicodin but no help. Dilaudid is a total miracle medicine that takes my pain and headaches away faster and does not return easily. I'm on 2mg every 4 hours as needed. It's hard to get a script sometimes cause of it's ability for addiction, which I've proven I don't abuse the privilege to be pain free. I like the IV form much better cause it works faster, but the pill eventually kicks in and I feel alive again and part of the world. I've been on it intermittently for a few years now.Read More Read Less

When I had emergency gall bladder surgery they were giving me morphine and dalaudid(sp?) Rotating the 2 every 20 minutes,I was still in pain but it was so bad I dont think any drug on earth would've helped, but the dilaudid worked the best! Within minutes after they gave it to me I.V I felt relief. In my opinion this is the best pain killer out there besides resorting to street drugs.

I suffer from complex regional pain syndrom. It was all caused when my foot was crushed after i was hit by a truck. I was first put on Norco 7.5 x6 a day. That worked until my pain was considered chronic by my ortho and i went into pain mngmt 2 months later, that was the longest two months of constant pain being off meds. I then was put on methadone for extended relief and 4mg 4x of Diladuid for breakthrough. I was then moved up to 8mg 4x a day plus moved from 30mg of Methadone to 60mgs. I found the Diladuid was not letting me sleep so we switched to Opana 10mg IRs 4x instead. I find Methadone to be sedating while the Opana was energizing which kept me on an even keel plus had my pain down to a 2 from a 7. Well something must have happened to the doctor with another patient cause he suddenly stopped the opana and upped the Methadone to 90mgs. It was nothing I did. I always give clean toxes and my counts are always on. Since then I told him I refuse to take Methadone due to the fact that I am a different person on it, I cant stand it. Now i think he considers me a difficult patient and only has me on 4mgs 4x a day of diladuid which is not nearly enough. I went from nearly jogging to being house bound. We decided that I should find a specialist who is competent and realizes the severity of my condition. Also IV diladuid is so much better than oral pills. The oral medication only has a 20% oral availability which means the medicine in pill form is weak compared to IV.Its a decent med but only for short breakthrough pain. I prefer opana 10mg IRS. Now that is pain relief. Read More Read Less

70 yr old male, Severe night pain from eroded hips. Long term use. Started with 2g, ended taking 4g 2x night which did not fully control hip pain. Woke multiple times a night with the pain. I was told to stop useing the med, and night pains went away!! It was as if the med was causing the pain. Can this happen?

I was using Dilaudid for pain due to a spinal tumor for several months. Was handling the side effects fine and the drug was working fairly well for break through pain.I used it on a regular basis until it caused me to have a collapsed lung. That was enough for me.I took myself off and talked to my doctor to find something new.Rare side effects are not so rare!!

I have been dx with fibromyalgia for years, because of that--anytime I complain of unexplained pain it's automatically associated to fibro. After calling 911 because I simply could not take the pain (stand without assistance, sleep, speak coherently without great effort, etc.) for months. My doctor finally took me seriously. It's been a week and it's brought the pain down to a manageable level (I'm on 2 mg every 4 hours). I no longer wish to be dead, so that really is saying something. I have not experienced any side effects (including light headiness or sleepiness etc.)--now if they'd just actually figure out what was wrong with me.Read More Read Less
