Asacol has been a godsend for me. This drug has literally turned my life around. When I first got sick 5 1/2 years ago I was a mess. I lost so much weight, my doctor put me in the hospital. Thanks to this medication I have been in remission for 5 years & have thankfully not had any real flare-ups,& my colonoscopies show no evidence of disease, & considering that my entire colon is affected I would ...
This is the second day I have taken asacol. I .have had several bowel movements this morning and don't feel comfortable.

I will have to say that if this drug works for you, it's much easier to take because the pills are much smaller then other drugs I've taken for my Ulcerative Colitis. However, the Asacol made me very ill. I had to stopped taking it after only 3 days because I had severe abdominal pain and bleeding.

I was diagnosed with Colitis / Proctitis approximately 2 months ago. I have been taking Asacol since I was diagnosed. I take the 800 MG 3 times a day. I also took the suppository for 4 weeks. My symptoms went away after the first month. The bleeding stopped after about 2 weeks of treatment. I am having some side effects, they are minor. The most concerning is that I believe I am having slight hair lose. I am very glad that this medicine has stopped my bleeding. Hopefully I can reduce my intake to 2 times a day after a few more months. It is difficult to take a pill 3 times a day.Read More Read Less

I have had way more flare ups and more hospital visits while on this drug! I found Pentasa to be superior, BY FAR! almost 11 years of dealing with my UC and the insurance company will not pay for the drug that actually worls for me,...... Asacol helps a little but I am searching for something better! I have small children and do not have the time or energy to be dealing with constant stomach pains and frequent visits to the restroom..

I had a colonoscopy due to pains in the abdomen and chronic constipation. I was diagnosed with diverticulosis. I was given samples of Lialda and when picking up my actual prescription, I was given both Lialda and Asacol. Seems to me as if these are the same meds. Havent started taking this yet, after reading all these side effects. Why would my doctor prescribe both for chronic constipation?? Any advice?

I was diagnosed 13 years ago with chrons and was put on asacol and had great success. About 2 years on the drug started feeling \unwell. Dr. not worried. Had a bone marrow test to find out I was in enstage renal failure because of an allergic reaction to the drug. Should of had frequent blood tests but didn't. Dr. not worried. After bone marrow test found out my creatine was 728 should be 60 to 100. Now mu kidneys are poor and will need a transplant. So to all out there please insist on blood tests so you don't end up like me. Very few have this problem. PLEASE checkRead More Read Less
