Asacol has been a godsend for me. This drug has literally turned my life around. When I first got sick 5 1/2 years ago I was a mess. I lost so much weight, my doctor put me in the hospital. Thanks to this medication I have been in remission for 5 years & have thankfully not had any real flare-ups,& my colonoscopies show no evidence of disease, & considering that my entire colon is affected I would ...
This is the second day I have taken asacol. I .have had several bowel movements this morning and don't feel comfortable.

I am a 44 year old female who was diagnosed with UC 9 months ago. I had problems with loose stools and frequency/urgency for many years, but when the bleeding started I had a colonoscopy last year and was diagnosed w/moderate UC. That is when I started Asacol 2 tabs, 3 x a day. It was a miracle drug! For the first time in my adult life, my bowel habits were normal. Bleeding stopped with 2-3 days, I was down to 1-2 movements per day. Have been on same regiment up until last month when bleeding symptom returned. Gastro increased my ASA to 4 tabs, 3 times a day to get past this flare. It has been a week, and so far, no relief. Bleeding not bad, but seeing any blood is disturbing. I am hopeful to be able to stay on ASA, cause it has changed my life, with no side effects like others mention, at least yet, and do want to lower dose again, as soon as possible. The cost is outrageous though, I am thankful to insurance co, or I couldn't afford it. Hopeful it will go generic sometime soon to lower cost. Hopeful my flare will pass with this temp med increase, not sure why this is occurring now cause I feel better than I have for years. Would recommend, in spite of current issue.Read More Read Less

I have terrible joint pain. Is there another medication anyone was given that may have had joint pain with this medicine? I find it difficult to even lift my purse. I exercise almost everyday and since I started this med I have cut back because it hursts to even walk.

I have taken this drug since the mid 90s. It has been very helpful in reducing my symptoms and keeping my disease under control. I have been in remission since 1983! Diagnosed in 1974. Lost insurance a few years ago and found a generic in Canada for $185. for a 3 month supply. (took 3-400mg. 2 times a day). Considering trying Balsalazide a generic of another popular drug for Crohn's.

A life saver med for me. Surgeon was ready to remove the lower colon because of persistent pain, bleeding & inflamation. 10 days after beginning Asacol and I cancelled the surgery and now a year later I am on a maintenance dose and doing wonderfully well. Years of nasty pain and discomfort GONE!

Just started taking this medication. Abdominal cramping better, diarrhea not as often. Hoping that this will help enough so that I can work without having diarrhea and run to the bathroom all the time. I have no bleeding, no polyps. I have been miserable for the last 3 months when this diarrhea started. Hopefully, these medication will solve my problem.

After only 3 days I had to quit the HD. I developed 101 fever, severe diarrhea, abdominal pain, bloating, gas, nausea and non-stop sneezing. I had taken the non-HD version about 7 years ago, same dosage, with no problems. I will not go on asacol again!
