6 years ago, I was having about 1 gout attack a month in my feet and ankles, which would last for up to 2 weeks. The attacks were so bad I would end up on the floor in tears. I've broken many bones and had sprains due to my athletic lifestyle. The gout pain is/was by far was the most painful of anything I've experienced. I started on 100 mg of Allopurinol for 2 months, but the attacks still came. ...

I have foot pain in the toes every night and have had sores on my lips and nose since taking this drug. I am 71 and have taken it for three weeks. I hope the lab test next week, shows a lower uric acid level for all my uncomfortable symptoms.

Uric acid levels did go down a little. However, stopped taking it for a couple of months then resumed. Within days of resuming my peripheral neuropathy became EXTREMELY painful. Stop the medication & pain went away within a few days...

Started out taking 100mg but would only take it as long as I had pain, when the pain went away I would stop taking it. The flare ups were horrible, bumped it up to 300mg and as long as I keep up with it, the pain is gone. If I miss more than 2 days I am in pain for a week. I however have been suffering from increased tiredness and dizziness some days and my eye sight isn't as good as it was, thought that these may have been due to the fact that I work second shift. Readers do the trick for now. Keeping up with the water and cut back on the booze and red meat have also helped.Read More Read Less

I've had gout for about 10 years now. I take 100mg twice daily. If I don't take this medication within a week my toes have gout and I cannot walk and have to use prednisone to get the gout under control.

I have taken it for a week and stopped because I saw no results. But, the pain in the big toe is waking me from sleep throbbing so, I started taking it again 3 days ago. I am on 100mg. I didn't realize it takes weeks before you get any results.

3 months on this and I have slowly developed a serious rash on my forearms, shoulders and neck. Uric acid numbers are down a little, but not enough. Doctor's not sure Allopurinol is the culprit but I am. Going to insist that we try something else.
