6 years ago, I was having about 1 gout attack a month in my feet and ankles, which would last for up to 2 weeks. The attacks were so bad I would end up on the floor in tears. I've broken many bones and had sprains due to my athletic lifestyle. The gout pain is/was by far was the most painful of anything I've experienced. I started on 100 mg of Allopurinol for 2 months, but the attacks still came. ...

I've been taking Allopurinal for past 4 months. I've experienced gout almost monthly since. When one flare up starts to resolve, a new one begins. I prefer colchicine for gout control.

40 days of taking this med and my gout attacks are more often, more severe, and last longer. Can't walk, can't sleep for pain. Amazed FDA would approve this crap.

Tried most of the home and commercial/non-prescription remedies to no avail. 300 MG dosage 1x daily took my Uric Acid from a 9.5 to 4.0 in 3 mos. No side effects, flare ups or issues. I am pain free and have my life back.

My gout had gotten so severe, I had to have operations to remove it from my foot. Ever since taking it, my uric acid stays consistently low and I have had not problems. No more diet restrictions and back to running, swimming, and weight lifting.

I have been taking this as a precaution for some time.I have not had any notable gout attacks ever. But recently, my medication was increased, and I had bad symptoms of Cystitis, and fluid retention.I stopped the medication, and the symptoms stopped.Although I now have weakened bladder retention.

I used to take the very expensive colchisin and a pain reliever when I had an attack -- usually a couple of times a year. My doctor later prescribed Alopurinol; I take it 3 to 4 times a week and haven't had an attack in over 5 years.

Have been taking this medication for 10+ years with no noticable side effects. Uric acid levels were reduced (and have been maintained) at normal levels for several years now. I have not had a gout attack flare up for more than 2 years as well.

started at 50mg and after 2 weeks labs were ok then increased to 100mg and in two weeks labs showed elevated creatinine so was told to stop one week later labs showed level of creatinine back to what it was prior to Allopurinol. To bad now I'm considering Uloric. Make sure you and your doctor monitor your blood levels.

Initial attacks of gout were severe in both knees, After cancer operation . Dr prescribed 100 mg Allopurinol once daily and colchyst 0.6 mg daily . Took this for 1 year, and very few gout attaches since, able to walk fairly well with moderate but tolerable pain in both knees. Only take colchyst now when having an attack . Recently have developed problem with dry skin and itching , possible a long term use side effect , will be discussing stopping for a while to see if symptoms go away, be also fear having gout attacks return . No fun either way.. Other minor problems with allopurinol are always minor such as upset stomach, dirhrea , thirst , but worth not having the pain.Read More Read Less

Been taking this drug for 18 months now. Brilliant stuff. I have had two minor flareups which lasted a day. Probably due to an excess of shell fish and red wine. Otherwise this drug has been excellent. Everyone is different and allopurinol may not work for some. I am glad it exists

A minor listed side effect that caused me huge problems was mental. This drug stopped my mental ability to multitask and to coordinate actions and thinking. This was extremely dangerous when trying to drive, walk, walk down steps, or think about more than one thing at a time. I stopped taking the drug after noticing these problems in about the third or fourth week and the problems cleared up in a couple days.

I have been on this med regularly for over 7 months. The side effects for me included profuse gas, belching, ringing in the ears, (seldom) increase in heartburn (severe)had a little bit of skin peeling at onset. Dr. also prescribed Cholechicine 0.6 mg for 10 days along with the Allopurinol 300mg she started me on. Pain disappeared in 3 days. No more gout attacks but have occ. big toe pain and will take a dose of allopurinol and it goes right away. But I have inc. in diarrhea, gas, bloating, and bile acids being released in stools. Tongue sore, going to stop Allopurinol completely and see if tongue soreness goes away. Also med make you very sleepy. I have depression but have had to hallicinations on this medication. The immediate side effects of relief I can handle. But for long term use....it seems to do more harm than good. I would use it only as an (as needed) basis. Read More Read Less
