6 years ago, I was having about 1 gout attack a month in my feet and ankles, which would last for up to 2 weeks. The attacks were so bad I would end up on the floor in tears. I've broken many bones and had sprains due to my athletic lifestyle. The gout pain is/was by far was the most painful of anything I've experienced. I started on 100 mg of Allopurinol for 2 months, but the attacks still came. ...

Diagnosed with gout last year after months of excruciating pain so bad I could not put feet on floor or stand sheet to touch them. Started with 100mg daily, raised dose to 300mg over first ten months. Could not eat any type of meat other than occasional chicken, asparagus, cauliflower, beans, peanut butter. Finally increased dose to 600mg daily and finally pain free. Can eat normally and walk without pain in toes and feet. Pain in elbows also gone. Could not walk last year at this time, finally at high enough dose to keep me pain free. No issues with medication so far.Read More Read Less

Prescribed by my Dr. for infrequent gout attacks, and infrequent kidney stones. This drug has worked very well for me.

Had frequent(4 per year) gout attacks that lasted several weeks the last one lasted 10 weeks. When the attack was over, took allopurinol in 100mg doses and increased to 300mg in 3 weeks. So far, I have had no severe allergic reactions. I had diahrea at first and now is slowly going away. I noticed lightheadiness when standing up and is less frequent now after six weeks of taking alopurinol. Moderate pain in thumb joint and minor pain in the big toes which comes and goes but no full attack.

Had aortic valve replaced. Doctors switched from 100 mg a day dosage to 300 mg day. 6 weeks late had blood clot in chest. While treated in hospital for that, got gout attack in left foot at base of toes and ball of foot. Took colchicine to treat pain. Doctor said this could happen even though I was taking allopurinol.. Very frustrating to take a medicine to prevent an attack and then get one anyhow.

300mgs/dailey.I have more than the one condition listed. gout, uric kidney stones and high levels of uric acid in blood. The stones have been desolved and are gone for over 10 years now but kidneys hurt alot from time to time.Gout hasn't been as bad as to go back on crutches but still have attacks tho not near severe as 3 years ago. since i also take drugs for type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure and acid reflux, i wouldn't know which side affects would be from the allopurinal as i have many. stomach cramps, diarrea, kidney pain, nauseia, bleeding, frequent uration, swollen prostate. i stay away from red meat and all the bad things i've looked up to avoid and the doc says my levels are fine.but he says theres no cure for gout yet.just some relief.Read More Read Less

I have been taking 300 mg. of this drug for a month and have developed a very serious itching problem specifically on my neck and also on other parts of my body, including scalp. Seriously expecting to drop this med. Will see my doctor this week.

I've been taking this drug now for at least 10 years and haven't had 1 gout attack in that time span. I take 300 mg first thing in the morning everyday religiously...... I ran out once upon a time while out on vacation and a gout attack showed up on day three. Learned my lesson. No side effects that I'm aware of.

I had severe allergic reaction to this medication and almost died. I broke out in a horrible rash all over my body, the worst the Dr's had seen, my kidneys almost shut down, I was throwing up, nauseated and had a high fever. Blood pressure went dangerously low and I am still on Medrol and Benadryl to treat the reaction. It is slowly moving out my hands and feet but it has left what my Dr. is calling 3rd degree type burns all over my body and I am peeling but still lobster red. I understand that not many people are allergic to this drug but if you start getting nauseated or get a rash that starts out small please seek the advice of your healthcare advisor. I let mine go too long and almost died.Read More Read Less
