I am writing this review in hopes that it will help anyone who is considering this treatment. I was diagnosed with osteoarthritis and a torn meniscus over seven months ago. My life has come to a complete halt due to the lack of use in my knee and constant pain. My doctor has drained my knee four times and had given me two shots of steroid . He then recommended the Orthovisc as nothing gave me...

I have C.P. and and could walk before this shot. Now, I can not stand nor walk, the pain is a 13 on a 1-10 scale. I'm now paralized from waist down. My doctors can't do knee replacement because I have sleep apnea, this was supposed to help, 24 hrs after shot, I had pain up to my hip, I could not stand at all. what has happened? The doctor that gave me the shot will not return my calls or help...

I have had the series of a number of times with modestly successful results - felt much less pain for maybe 6 weeks. The last time however...I felt better after the first shot, even better after the 2nd but that 2nd shot itself was extremely painful for the first time and my leg was a little stiff for the first day. The 3rd shot was even more painful and then as I was gong home, my entire leg blew up like a balloon. I could barely make it to my house. I couldn't move my leg properly for about two weeks - the first few days I needed to use a belt to help lift my leg to get around. Needless to say I passed on the 4th shot. After the swelling went down, my knee felt better for about a month. After that, back to normal. Clueless on what to do next. Read More Read Less

Had knee pain due to lack of cartilage from arthritis. After the 2nd injection pain was almost gone. after 3rdinjection no pain at all for almost 7 months. Was retreated and pain disappeared again. Kept getting treatment for over 2 years but my insurance will no longer cover the shots because they say it is not effective. Try telling that to my wife, an avid runner for 30 years who had to quit running for a year and a half due to knee pain. After 1 round of treatments she can run pain free. Working now to try to find way fo coverage.Read More Read Less

I TOOK 2 INJECTIONS OF ORTHOVISC 1 WEEK APART. AFTER THE FIRST INJECTION I HAD ATRIAL FIBRILATION (AFIB) FOR A WEEK BUT DIDN'T WHAT IT WAS. AFTER THE SECOND INJECTION A WEEK LATER, I HAD AFIB THE FOLLOWING M0RNING WITH A HEART RATE OF 140 AND WENT TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM. NO ONE KNOWS IF THEY WILL GET AFIB FROM ORTHOVISC UNTIL THEY GET IT INJECTED AND THEN IT IS TOO LATE.

I had left knee clean out surgery in 96 and 07, I'm 56 in great shape started orthovix 4 years ago on both knees after stiffness and some pain. I have it done at Kerlan Jobe the practice that does the Lakers and top sports stars in Los Angeles. Had it done 5 times 3 shots, 30 total, zero, zero pain from injection, the Doctor uses a freeze shot on the skin, and guides it in with ultrasound image. I feel bad for anyone having pain, the Doctors must not be using an ultrasound or is just terrible at injections. Works really well for me, I think the key is, if your knee are really wasted it won't work.Read More Read Less

I have osteoarthritis in my left knee. Have had previous shot series and needed an offloading brace 4 months after injections. This was my first series of this med administered in May. Knee feels great, so far NO problems. Knee brace is gathering dust!

I am trying this as the final recommendation by my rheumatologist for knee pain due to Ehlers Danlos type 3. First shots were mildly discomforting, and provided about 3 days worth of relief. Just got second round, and it was significantly more painful than the first, I blacked out on the procedure table from the pain of injection on my right knee. We'll see if it provides any lasting benefits. One more round to go.

I have been housebound for 2 months now. I had my 3rd knee injection a week ago and I suffer pain and stiffness 24/7. My swelling on both knees (both sides of each knee) is about the size of a peach. Until I read webmd, I Had no idea that others are suffering. My doctor said orthovisc only works 60-70 % of the time but I was desparate to try it. I have had severe knee problems since February and the physical therapy worked well until I stopped. Now I have to start all over but how will PT work with the swelling? I can't even bend my knees. Let me give you the key to helping Orthovisc work. Had 1 shot=no change 2nd shot=about 3 days after BOOM NO PAIN!!!! But all along I used the 360 GEL Sleeve made by Veridian Healthcare to ice it down. The best I've felt in 3 months. Also I used a tens unit knee wrap at night. It's a process. Give it time and a try. Hope this may help others and by the way I take no pain meds for my condition.

The night of my third injection, my knee swelled up the size of a basketball and I had to have emergency surgery to drain it and I am still not able to walk after 3 weeks.

I received a series of injections of orthovisc in hopes that my knee pain would diminish. Well, about a week after I received my last injection, my knee filled up the size of a peach. Talk about pain and discomfort! My doctor drained 4 viles of fluid from my knee. I'm not sure why I didn't great results as some others have, but I sure wish I would have!

66 year old male. Osteoarthritis. Had torn meniscus and knee scope surgery. Had the last of 4 injections of orthovisc. Knee pain is awful. No relief. This drug is very expensive.. $250 per injection for the orthovisc plus $200 for the doctor to do the injection. Doctor won't give me any pain meds because the DEA does not allow it. My primary care will not allow me to take anymore Tylenol because my liver is going to get damaged.(my liver enzymes are sky high) This stuff is a waste of time for anything but simple knee pain. The first shots were very painful. The second ones, not so much. I am still going to have the third shots. I can already tell the difference in the paint - much, much less pain.

Orthovisc bought me some extra time on my left knee before I eventually had to have a TKR. Using Orthovisc, I was able to postpone my TKR for approximately 2 - 2 1/2 years. I just received my first injection in my right knee as I also DJD on the right knee. Hoping for good results as well.

Woke up two months ago with pain in left knee. X-rays showed bone-on-bone, OA. Orthopaedic Surgeon tried a cortisone shot. Did strees "this may not work as everyone is different" It didn't. Have had three OrthoVisc injections and my doctor still feels they will work. So far - not working. Still hoping they will and they still could. I understand it takes a while for this to "kick in." Will go to gym and walk laps in Olympic pool as I feel that may help with discomfort and walking in water would not be painful. Got great hope from reading the comments of others. Thank you. 1-30-2015Read More Read Less

He then recommended the Orthovisc as nothing gave me relief. With the first shot I felt no relief. The doctor had told me to expect that . But I am happy to say that about five days after the second shot I began to feel tremendous relief. As a matter of fact, over the weekend, I have done both some hiking and some biking. These are activities that I love, but have not been able to do for nearly 8 months . I took it very easy, but my knee completely cooperated with me. Today I do the last injection. Hate needles, but love the relief. If your doctor has recommended Orthovisc, or even if he hasn't, try it! It has given me my life back. The doctor has already warned me that I may need to do another series and 6 to 9 months. He says that's pretty common. I hope that I don't have to endure more needles, but I will certainly do it as I know the relief that the medication brings. He has also won me that I may need to do the treatment yearly due to my condition . I am willing to do whatever it takes to keep my life active. I hope this review helps anyone who is in pain. I have found this medication to be a small miracle. Read More Read Less

The injections were ineffective. I didn't notice any change at all. I am 67 yr old female awaiting replacement surgery for both knees; possibly they are too far gone for any kind of help.

It's been almost three weeks after my third injection and I've had no relief of pain. Today it felt worse than it has in a month, with new stiffness and aching on top of normal pain. I'm not sure what's next, as I have very mild arthritis and a few very small bone spurs, no tears, etc. I have stumped the doctors. Go me.

I am currently in the 4th month after having the 3 orthovisc injections.I had no side effects whatsoever.I had a scope done in 12/2012 on my right interior miniscus.Things were fine for about 15 months and then I gradually started having pain at the point of surgery. The injections were not too bad .For me, the injections were well worth the effort and cost.I had to pay $200.00. Prior to the injections,I had to be carried off the golf course when the knee pain reached its peak prior to using Orthovisc.I would HIGHLYrecommend this treatment. It was like day and night !Read More Read Less

I'm 60 years old and have osteoarthritis in one knee which I was told was the result of knee ligament surgery many years ago after a skiing accident. I had the three injections several months ago. My knee was so painful with osteoarthritis I could hardly walk. I'm now doing a 2-mile walk up and down steep hills carrying an 80# backpack as a daily exercise. I had worked from 15# up to 65# prior to the injections then one day tried to run the hill and the knee became crippled. After the injections I walked the hills without any weight for about 5 miles daily. I eventually put 50# back on for a couple weeks, then 70#, and now 80# with no discomfort in the knee. This stuff REALLY WORKS!!!.Read More Read Less
