It has changed my life. I can now live life, normally. I don't have those sad feelings everyday like I did before I started taking the medication. I was about to give up hope on myself and doctors, but I finally found a doctor that has helped me,after 20 years of searching. I have suffered for 20 years with this, not knowing what was wrong and thinking that no one understood me because you have to...

The Zoloft part of this medication gave me a skin crawling and itchy sensation. I had taken Prozac (other part of this med.) without incident. Together I felt extremely itchy, irritated, agitated and listless. I wound up going to a psych. triage and was told I had an allergic reaction and to stop immediately. The NP that prescribed it neglected to read my chart on Zoloft reactions.

I was put on this medication 2 weeks ago and I can already tell that it has a great effect on me. My husband has noticed changes he says i'm more calm while he's driving ( less yelling at him for not applying the brake fast enough lol) I'm not stressed out at my job. I was never depressed more enraged and impulsive reactions and mania. But in any case I actually wanted to leave my house this weekend ( normally i don't I have a fear of large crowds and being trapped that the "what if's" stop me before I can reach the door.) I'm a true cancer my home is my safe zone and I enjoy solitude to be honest. any way rambling away haha. I can tell alot of good things have come from this medication. Regardless of weight gain which i've yet to see and no real increase in appetite for me. But if it does occur then I'll just add another 20 minutes on my treadmill no biggie :) overall I would say if you have any kinda of mania or rage this medication could help you...it worked for me. Symbyax worked great for me and I wish I could continue to take it however I had to stop because it was making me gain a lot of weight (10 pounds the first month, I'm already on the heavy side). It works, but for me, the weight gain was depressing me anyhow. I had the munchies non stop and it felt as though I was ALWAYS hungry. Even after eating a good meal, it felt like I didn't eat, I was still hungry. As for the depression and hypomania, it was good for me. At first it was hard to wake up in the morning but after a week, I got use to it (had to take it 2-3 hours before bedtime just to wake up on time). If weight gain isn't an issue for you, then Symbyax is great...and expensive btw. I have great insurance and even then 10 pills would run $60.Read More Read Less

Wow - I took one dose of this (for major depression when a high dose of Prozac stopped working) and the side effects were so bad that I didn't take another dose. I took one pill (6/25) at night, dragged myself out of bed the next morning with slurred speech, fatigue, and a severe drugged feeling. I have no clue how I made it to work. I had to go home after an hour (I barely remembered being at work at all the next day), passed out when I got home and didn't wake up until 5 pm. I felt fine after that, but I can't exactly go through life that way. I'm sure for a lot of people this medication is great, but for me it's a tad dangerous. Be careful with this medication if you're just starting out - take the first dose on a day/night when you don't have to be anywhere the following day until you know how you're going to react to it.Read More Read Less

I was previously on Zyprexa (olanzapine) for three years, then my doctor put me on Prozac (fluoxetine) for a year, and now I've been taking Symbyax for six months. I did gain weight, over 40 pounds, but through diet and exercise (which helps my depression anyways) I've lost most of it. I consider weight gain an acceptable trade for how much better I'm doing since taking this medication. I take mine at night which seems to help with the sleepiness associated with this.

I was on Symbyax for 3 months to treat my OCD. It was mildly effective and had undesireable side effects such as feeling hungry all the time, and it messed my sleep cycle up. I went from being able to function off of 4 hours of sleep prior to starting Symbyax to needing to sleep for at least 12 hours a day, which is unacceptable because I am a busy college student. In addition, I felt like my personality was erased by this drug. In a nutshell this drug was somewhat helpful for me but the side effects were not worth the benefit. I switched to zoloft 2 weeks ago and hope that it will work better.Read More Read Less

i was taking cymbalta 90mg for depression and resperdal 0.5mg for bipolar. I had to be switched to Symbyax because of side effects to lab work from the resperdal. I did have bad withdrawl symptoms at first, but that lasted about 4 days. Now i am getting a good night sleep and feel ok on the symbyax. i do feel tired during the day. that is my only negative so far.

I was diagnosed with OCD, Bipolar disorder, ADD & ADHD all at the same time. I started taking Symbyax March 7 2008 and have continued on it. I have seen an absolute change in my mood, concentration, and anxiousness. This drug has made my life 100% better and I'm very thankful for it. The sleepiness will eventually wear off but it is really hard to get up in the morning.

I hated symbyax... i took it from august 08 till october 08 for depression, it was the 3rd or 4th drug ive tried to treat my depression... I just had a baby the december before and had been switched from drug to drug and finally symbyax worked for me, but it made me gain back all my baby weight plus.. I have stopped taking it and am still having trouble losing the weight because of the weird places it made me gain it.. i would only sugest it if someone is not only depressed/ bipolar but also underweight... I began taking this drug on Friday night. I woke up Saturday morning with a Migraine. After taking a dose Saturday night, I woke up with an even worse Migraine on Sunday morning. I called the pharmacist to ask if this was a side-effect since it was not on the literature from the pharmacy, and she said Migraines was not listed anywhere as a side-effect. I made a doctor's appt. on Monday. He said he thought it was caused by a weather front that came through. I took the Monday night dose and woke up Tuesday morning with another Migraine. I didn't take the dose Tuesday night and woke up Wednesday morning without a Migraine, but with a hung-over feeling. I quit taking Symbyax and the Migraines stopped. I believe this medication could be a danger to anyone with a history of Migraines. I would not recommend it.Read More Read Less

I started taking symbyax two weeks ago for ocd with a possibilty of bipolar disorder. It has helped me sleep better and feel rested during the day but still has yet to help with the ocd which is my major problem. Hopefully it will help when the dose increases.

My Dr. started me on this 4 days ago, and already I feel so much better. My suicidal thoughts are gone, and the anxiety is non existent. The drug does make you very very sleepy!! I keep taking it earlier in the day, if you take it before bedtime, you'll sleep great, but I'm so tired, I can't hardly get up in the morning. My first few hours in the morning feel like a fog, hard to focus. Also, it makes you very hungry all the time, but I was forewarned by my Dr. that it would have this side effect. I was on klonipin before, for anxiety, but I think this works so much better. My husband has noticed a big change in my behavior too. I'm more calm, not yelling all the time, or crying for no reason. No other side effects.Read More Read Less

I was going through a tough time in my life. was never diagnosed with bipolar but after several failed medications, i.e. zoloft, paxil, cymbalta, lexapro I finally gave in to Symbyax. At first it knocked me out so of course my mood improved, I was sleeping. haha then I took it in the late afternoon and had no problems. Weight gain was an undesired side effect with increased appetite. I gained 38lbs in 9 weeks and had to buy all new clothes. Weight finally leveled off and I never had to have meds adjusted. Wish I had never taken myself off the meds and now my doctor is trying other stuff that does not work nearly as well. Read More Read Less
