Before this medication I was absolutley a mess. I was crying almost everyday, on my days off from work I would lay on the couch and would not get up all day. I had stopped going out with friends, gained over 30 lbs, and overall just didn't care about anything. I decided it was time to take action and as much as I thought, oh this is a phase and I will snap out of it, I realized I couldn't do it on...

My 19 year old daughter starting taking this medication Dec. 18 to treat for clinical depression. On Jan 16, she overdosed on the wellbutrin. Her behavior and mood since she started taking wellbutrin has gone downhill. She survived the overdose but had many seizures. She is now in a psych ward under a 14 day hold.

This is one of the only medications that seems to work for me. It does not completely eliminate the depression but it does make it easier to deal with it. A few years on this drug and I noticed that I was able to control the depression 75% of the time.

I give 5 stars because when I was first prescribed wellbutrin XL when it came out, it was a miracle! I never felt so good, had energy, got out of bed, exercised, it was unbelievable. However, I lost too much weight and my Dr took me off telling me I had to gain 10 lbs and maintain it for her to put me back on the drug. I gained the weight, was put back on Wellbutrin XL my final dosage was 300. However, it didn't work at all. I got no relief, nothing that I had experienced the first time I was on the drug. I have been on many anti depressants, and the first time on Wellbutrin was the best. I wonder if anyone else has experienced the same issue. We tried it again last year, same thing, It eas like taking sugar pills. I was on the brand as my Dr had had poor results with the generic. I would give anything to have this drug work again and wonder if there are other reported issues with other patients. So now my rating is no stars as it doesn't work at all, no matter how we changed the dosage.Read More Read Less

I've been using Wellbutrin XL 300mg for about 5 years. Prior to it, I was using SSRI type antidepressants. I would recommend anyone with mild depression, which what I have, to try this first. All the SSRI types caused me to gain weight, feel drowsy during the day, low energy and killed my libido. Or it did mine. Ladies, if your husband has lost interest in sex while on SSRI's, it is not you. It is the drug. And I would still have bouts with depression. The Wellbutrin XL has none of the above side effects. It's almost the reverse and worked just as good for me as all the newest SSRI meds. Getting off SSRI's can be tough. They have some known withdrawal symptoms. A quick search of those can be found online. I felt like electrical charges were going through my brain and saw flashes of lights. Once that was over and I got on the Wellbutrin, I felt so energized. My libido came back and was higher than before the SSRI's!! I lost 30 pounds too. I tell everyone to try Wellbutrin first. I don't know why doctors don't recommend this medication. My psychiatrist never mentioned Wellbutrin to me. Started me right off with the SSRI's. I did my own research to find them, as I knew I had to get off the others. Read More Read Less

I have been taking meds for depression for over 30 years and except for the MAOIs I have tried them all. I have been on Celexa/citalopram as it seems to work best for me overall. Chronic fatigue is one of my worst symptoms, so as we have many times, my doc and I are supplementing the Celexa with Wellbutrin/bupropion in hopes that the norepi bump would increase my energy. In the past the only difference I noticed was an increase in anxiety, and a practical inability to have an orgasm (anorgasmia.) This time the only difference I notice is anorgasmia. I wanted to post this because I know that Wellbutrin is considered (and shown) to be one of the anti-depressants with the fewest sexual side effects. Experientially, Wellbutrin seems to be essentially worthless as an antidepressant, and exacerbates anxiety. I am thankful I do not smoke, but Wellbutrin is also marketed as Zyban and prescribed for smoking cessation. I do not know what the numbers show for its effectiveness in stopping smoking, but in my humble opinion as anything other than perhaps smoking cessation the med is worthless. Read More Read Less

I was in a car accident & suffered damage in my neck that resulted in neurological damage(complicated migraine in my body). Went to "top doctors", acupuncture, chiropractic, etc. the main point is I was told the AMA knows antidepressants have been found to work on specific migraine challenges. For 2 years I tried to get rid of the pain without medication until one day my migraine/stroke symptoms resulted in me thinking I was saying one thing and other words were coming out of my mouth! This terrified me! So I went to a top psychiatrist to see what antidepressant I should take. I had to accept the fact that I could not naturally get rid of my pain! This was in 1995. After much discussion it was decided that Wellbutrin would be the best medication with the least long term and short term side effects. I took the sample home and decided to work from home for a few days so I could take the medication safely. I will never forget this experience, it saved my life! Sitting at my dining room table, 45 minutes after taking the pill, doing paperwork when all of a sudden I felt a tingling sensation in the shape and size of a baseball at the exact location of my neck injury! I knew then that this medication would work. ( please understand that I was told not to expect any improvement for about 2 weeks!) we had to up the med once within in 2 months and that was it! Thru the years I have gone to the next generations, using the latest now. I cannot use the generic, it does not work the same and there are side effects! Most doctors know this but still people are forced to buy the generic due to cost factors. This is one medication no generic should be approved! Bottom line, I am fine. Thank Heavens! Hope this helps someone. Read More Read Less

I wanted to be put back on Adderral but the doctor suggested this. At first it was great. I quit smoking for good and my mood was a lot better. I did not freak out about little things or become overwhelmed. But now, my anxiety is at it's max, I feel like I am on the constant verge of crying. The only way to truly explain it is that I feel like I did when I was pregnant when everything was heighten...But I am definitley not pregnant. May have to stop taking this if I can not stop feeling like I am crazy...Seriously, I feel like I am up and down. I have never been like this before. Though I am still not smoking and it has been three months now. So there is good with it too.Read More Read Less

I take this along with Lexapro for panic attacks. For a few years it was just Lexapro and after a couple years, I realized I was tired all the time and just not myself. My doc introduced Wellbutrin to mix with it. It has been three years now and I feel great. Rarely do I feel overwhelmed and I am not tired anymore. I would recommend anyone with my symptoms to try it.

I started taking it 2 years ago in the fall to be proactive about my seasonal depression. The first day I felt the way I imagine people do when the abuse ADHD meds, very productive and energetic. After a couple of days my body normalized and I feel it has changed my life. Since taking it I am able to complete multiple tasks in a day, where before I would be exhausted after one. My social life perked up considerably, and graduate school is not the constant source of stress that undergrad was- and I am working full time! I also have ADHD, and I feel like it helps me a little. I am much more inattentive type, and I am able to maintain attention a little more than before, but it is still a struggle. This med was only prescribed for the depression.Read More Read Less

Used this drug after celexa was unable to maintain a steady mood. Very happy to sad and meh! That would swing over days at a time. Wellbutrin nailed it however the constipation was so bad I had the dr switch it for me that lasted just over a month. + side was I was able to quit smoking very easily and feel better in that sense too. Moving on to Effexor this week will see how that works out.

I take 150 mg. buproprion XL, I've tried many if not every anti depressant out there and this is the first one that worked. I can go to my g.p. without crying for the first time in years. I still feel blue if my kids upset me but I don't fall apart. I'm not taking the 300 mg as it made my mouth so dry I had to chew gum all the time and didn't seem to make a difference in how I felt. I did have an incidence of jumping out of my car (not smart) and telling the guy behind me that I couldn't take a right on red because of the sign, a little impulsive I'd say and stupid.Read More Read Less

I was prescribed this medication after I gained 50 lbs. in a month on Celexa in hopes on not gaining anymore weight or even losing some. What a nightmare! It gave me extreme rage-filled episodes everyday and got worse if I was late taking it by only an hour. It also did nothing to treat the depression and anxiety that I was prescribed it for, if anything it made it worse. I could not eat a portion size of anything during the time that I was taking it either: I would only eat a decent sized meal once a week. After about a month I was back on the Celexa which still works like a charm (albeit one that makes you gain a lot of weight). Read More Read Less

Years of trying to quit. I tried staples in my ear (twice), Gum, Nicotine Tablets. After explaining the extreme mood changes when I tried to quit to all my doctors - finally my new primary perscribed this. It workd day 2. I never had such ease ever before. And Yes I wanted to quite for years. I am now a breather since May 1st. After 1 month I am off the drug.

I took this for 2.5 weeks and only had one day where i felt really good. the rest of the time i may have felt a tad better but not much. i also was dragging during the day and awake at night and shook some. maybe i should've stuck with it longer and taken it at night instead of day, but i gave up.
