Before this medication I was absolutley a mess. I was crying almost everyday, on my days off from work I would lay on the couch and would not get up all day. I had stopped going out with friends, gained over 30 lbs, and overall just didn't care about anything. I decided it was time to take action and as much as I thought, oh this is a phase and I will snap out of it, I realized I couldn't do it on...

My 19 year old daughter starting taking this medication Dec. 18 to treat for clinical depression. On Jan 16, she overdosed on the wellbutrin. Her behavior and mood since she started taking wellbutrin has gone downhill. She survived the overdose but had many seizures. She is now in a psych ward under a 14 day hold.

I have had depression for many years and my doc put me on this drug quite a number of years ago. It has helped me with mental capacities in thinking and not being so depressed as in the past. If you need this drug I advise your pscychiatrist to consider this drug for you.

I have been on antidepressants every since a bought with post partum 9 years ago. I have tried it all. Paxil made me sleepy and sweat but relieved anxiety, Prozac gave me tons of energy but made me 'crazy' and moody, Cymbalata made my anxiety go thru the roof, Celexa didn't do anything. I was on Zoloft for years, it was great for the anxiety but not the depression. I slept a lot and just had no ambition to do anything more than I had to. I am now on the generic of this - 150 the first week and I am in day 2 of 300mg. I LOVE IT SO FAR!! My energy is through the roof, my fog of depression has lifted and I feel great. My only side affect so far is that I seem to have an aching back, that could be due to the anxiety level needing to balance out. However, I will take a slightly aching back over no energy and sleeping all of the time! One thing I have learned is that everyone reacts differently to each med. so you just have to find the one that works for you.Read More Read Less

I have been taking the bupropion SR for about 6 months now and my hubby can see a marked difference in my mood. I still get a little moody, but he says I am not a psycho anymore. I also take xanax 2x per day and evening primrose oil with Vitex to help with woman mood swings. MAJOR difference! Hubby is loving the change in me.

Have taken this over 10 yrs, very effective for keeping me in sane stable mood w/o inappropriate crying. I can cope . I tried stopping several times, became immediately in major depression. I started with low dose, gradually over the years increased to 300mg. I have tried every version and every generic and brand name, each one is a little different because of absorption rate is differs from brand to brand. All are effective, but I do notice differences if affect and side-effects. Some are absorbed more slowly so work best when take b4 bedtime to not interfere with sleep, but others donot. Also different people will experience different absorption rates between brands and dosages. So you all hang in their, talk to your Dr.Read More Read Less

Was prescribed the generic Bupropion HCL for mild depression and anxiety. The first few days on 150 mg were a little scary. I had a headache the entire time. This only lasted about 3 days. On the fifth day started 300 mg. Loved the energy boost and eveniness of my mood. I also immediately quit smoking...have tried quitting many times before with no success. I started getting bad cramps and realized I was horribly constipated. Tried upping my fiber and fluid intakes but nothing helped. I had to stop taking it because of this...BUMMER. I really liked this med and wish I could continue but I can't take laxative everyday to conteract the constipation!!!!!!! Some decrease in sexual desire did occur. My doc prescribed me Effexor XR and I filled the ordered but I do not think I will try this one because of the horrible things I have been reading about it. I will be asking her about Cymbalta because the reviews seem much more positive. I wish the makers of Wellbutrin/Bupripion could fix the constipation issue because it worked great for me!Read More Read Less

Wellbutrin has worked well for me for 10 yrs. Now generics have taken over. My insurance plan is now forcing me to use bupropion and/or budeprion. Both make want to jump from a bridge. I use generics for other issues with no complaints. There should be provisions for those who are not able to shift from the name brand. Thanks for your understanding Glaxo/Smith/Klein. Instead of paying $25/month, I'm paying over $350.00.

My Dr. assurred me that I would have lots of energy, feel terrific, plus notice very few side effects and enjoy the benefit of XL curbing my appetite. However, like several of the following responders, I've was so exhausted and nauseated taking the Wellbutrin generic, I'm wondering what gives? Is there are formuary difference from the original name brand? Surely so many of us should not be experiencing exactly the opposite prescribed expectations? I had to stop taking the pills. I was too sick and drowsy all day long for weeks. What gives?Read More Read Less

UPDATE- I last wrote about 3 weeks ago and I had just started taking this medication. I wasn't given the XL to start off with and for some reason...just couldn't remember to take 1 pill 3 times a day. I am a SUPER busy mom and full time college student (aren't we all super busy though?). Anywho, After 2 weeks I went to the doc to let him know about my difficulty and THEN he gave me the XL...it is SO much easier taking 1 pill in the morning and being done with it. So far, things seem to be improving. I am on the 300. It has ALSO cut back my craving to smoke (AWESOME..since taxes went through the roof..again). My depression seems to be getting a little better but I haven't experienced any weight loss that I was REALLY looking forward to. LOL! I am giving the XL a month to "kick in" and hopefully by then my depression will have subsided or at least decreased more. Oh...ALSO...I AM tired ALL THE TIME! But if the medication helps me smile again and feel "normal" then perhaps less sleep and an occasional redbull will make it all worth while :o) Good luck to everyone who is taking this...I not only hope it works for me...but for all of you as well!!! ~Many Blessings~ Jilly Jill Read More Read Less

Wellbutrin XL 300 mg is what I am on. I was on 150 mg Wellbutrin 2x daily. Since starting the XL, I have had horrible nausea. Lost weight!, but I could think of better ways of losing weight! I have been very very tired, no energy, feel like I have been hit by a Mac truck! I asked the dr. and he said to give it another week or so and if it doesn't clear up he will change it. I hope it the side effects go away soon, I can't stand feeling like this...Sometimes I don't think I will make it through the drive to work or through the night w/out vomiting... Anyone else have these symptoms this bad?Read More Read Less

Wellbutrin worked fine for 5 yrs. Then my hands started shaking BADLY! It is a very uncommon side effect, but since I am a beader, I am no longer able to bead with the tiny beads I loved. Even after being off Wellbutrin for over 4 yrs., my hands still experience tremors. Worked O.K. for the depression, but still felt "below normal".

I have been on Wellbutrin XL for about 2 weeks. Have been having terrible side affects. Dizziness, nausea, tiredness. Hoping this will go away. I was on Effexor for 1 year and felt it wasn't working anymore, besides I gained at least 20 lbs.

I have been on wellbutrin for 4 weeks. The first week was awful with the anxiety. I went up to two doses the second week and thought I was going to die so I went back down to one. I have never been happier. I expect to feel the side effects of every new drug that I take, but I know that if I let them work themselves out there will be light at the end of the tunnell. I always give myself a month on a new med before giving up. I did have to go down on the dose because the side effects I was feeling were a medical concern but they went away two days after I went down.Read More Read Less
