Before this medication I was absolutley a mess. I was crying almost everyday, on my days off from work I would lay on the couch and would not get up all day. I had stopped going out with friends, gained over 30 lbs, and overall just didn't care about anything. I decided it was time to take action and as much as I thought, oh this is a phase and I will snap out of it, I realized I couldn't do it on...
My 19 year old daughter starting taking this medication Dec. 18 to treat for clinical depression. On Jan 16, she overdosed on the wellbutrin. Her behavior and mood since she started taking wellbutrin has gone downhill. She survived the overdose but had many seizures. She is now in a psych ward under a 14 day hold.

I had been switched to the drug to see if the side effects were any better than previous drugs. I was not so exhausted all the time with this one and I was optimistic. It seemed initiaaly to almost put me in a semi-manic state and then a week or two in - aggitation, confused by simple things, nausea, crying and a high pitched ringing in my head/ears all the time.

When I first took this I was in the hospital for depression. That first day I shot out of depression right to mania. I can still remember jumping up and down, all the nurses rushed over like I was going to throw myself out of a plastic window. I forced them to stop giving it to me, only on for three days, but for those three days I wasn't sleeping, wasn't sitting still. It was horrible.

I had previously been on Paxil (bad) & Effexor (bad). Wellbutrin is my saviour. I still get sad-but I know I just need to control my deppression-I can't cure it. I take a very low dose, but it does the job perfectly.

When I took this medicine I had awful side effects. My ears would ring, I had a horrible taste in my mouth all the time and I would see things out of the corner of my eyeand I became suicidal. Other than that I did quit smoking successfully.

before taking Wellbutrin XL 300 I was always depressed and negative. The least little thing had me feeling like my world was coming to an end. After taking Wellbutrin I am a very different person. I asked my best friend if she noticed a difference in me and she said if I went off Wellbutrin she wouldn't be my friend! She was only kidding but she said there was a big difference in me, happy, upbeat, positive etc. I tried Wellbutrin generic and it did nothing for me. Someone talked me into trying Cymbalta because it also helps with Fibromyalgia, it did not help at all and gave me a lot of side effects, weight gain, tremors in my hands, just wanted to sleep and sit and stare at nothing, went off of it and back on Wellbutrin after a 3 month try. I will be staying on Wellbutrin and paying the extra not to be on the generic. Read More Read Less

I am 54 yrs. old with clinical depression and have been on some kind of antidepressant for the last 25 yrs. with less than effective results. I've been taking Wellbutrin XL for over 4 years. I also was taking Cymbalta (didn't notice any help from that drug), but stopped due to the perceived ineffectiveness over 6 months ago with no negative effects. WB however seemed to help level out my depression. Instead of the very deep lows they became less severe over time until my mood was manageable. When I began taking WB I immediately noticed a decrease in appetite and lost several pounds right away. In time my appetite came back and have gained the weight back. It also helped with my cravings for habits I had stopped years ago, e.g., smoking, drinking, drugs, etc. If I wanted to stop smoking, drinking or drugs I would HIGHLY recommend WB as an adjunct therapy. I see why ZYBAN is prescribed for smoking cessation! I have tried weening back to 150mg from the 300mg dose I take daily before bed, but noticed mood changes within a week so I went back to 300mg, not wanting to fix it if it wasn't broken. It seems as though I may have to take something for the rest of my life as I have been a lifetime depression sufferer. The only side effect I suffer from is that I think it contributes to sexual dysfunction, but depression itself could be the main culprit. There is no free lunch with any medication. Your mileage may vary ;-).Read More Read Less
