Before this medication I was absolutley a mess. I was crying almost everyday, on my days off from work I would lay on the couch and would not get up all day. I had stopped going out with friends, gained over 30 lbs, and overall just didn't care about anything. I decided it was time to take action and as much as I thought, oh this is a phase and I will snap out of it, I realized I couldn't do it on...

My 19 year old daughter starting taking this medication Dec. 18 to treat for clinical depression. On Jan 16, she overdosed on the wellbutrin. Her behavior and mood since she started taking wellbutrin has gone downhill. She survived the overdose but had many seizures. She is now in a psych ward under a 14 day hold.

Although Wellbutrin was not effective in helping me to quit smoking, the effects that it had on my mood and over all well being were dramatic. I felt like a new person while taking it. My relationships with people at work and home improved greatly.

It might as well have been a sugar pill. It did absolutely nothing for me.

I have been on wellbutrin for 15 years, and have over the years had to up the dose and now I am at my highest dose possible and was wondering if anyone else has ever built up a resistance to it and had to swith. I really dont want to start over with somethig new...but my attitude is taking a downward plunge and I am starting to feel warning signs.....

I actually gained a little weight, which I could trade for the sexual drive of Don Juan! It countered wonderfully the Paxil I was co-currently taking. I had not until adding Wellbutrin been able to orgasm in less than 35 minutes! BUT, being a smoker, the appetite increase was due to the fact that I COULD NOT STOMACH a cigarette on Wellbutrin. Between that negative effect, no real noticeable change with depressive or ADHD symptoms, the ONLY upshot was the sexual drive. WHATEVER.

I have been on several medications in the past..celexa,lexepro etc. All of which caused me to feel blah and emotionless. They also caused weight gain and sexual disfunction. I was weaned off of them with a lot of withdrawl symptoms. About 8 years ago I was on wellbutrin. I remembered how much better it was than the others. When I felt that things were getting bad again I asked my Dr if he could try me back on that. I immediately had more energy, better attentin span, weight loss and better sex. I am only taking half the dose prescribed, 150mg in the morning. I am now at a plateau, so I may begin taking my second dose of 150 mg early afternoon. The only side effects are slight hand tremors, some irritability and my heart races especially if I have a few drinks. Not enough side effects to give it up. Really, if the other drugs you are taking make you feel lifeless, ask your Dr to try this. When I went off this the first time I had way less withdrawl sickness than the others. Read More Read Less

I have found that Wellbutrin works best for me. I have tried numerous drugs to treat my depression, none of them has worked as well as Wellbutrin. The only side effects I have experienced is that rarely I have mild sleep problems. This drug has been perscribed for me on two seperate occasions, as my depression can be significant at times and other drugs are tried. I have a problem with severe anxiety with panic attacts. When these symptoms come up I do take additional medication, however Wellbutrin will often times help ease these symptions. If I were a doctor I would highly recommend this drug.Read More Read Less

Over the past 15yrs I have tried Zoloft, Luvox & Prozac. Zoloft made me feel like a "zombie",Luvox and Prozac I pretty much plateaued on where they weren't effective anymore. I have been on Wellbutrin XL300mg for the past 6 years out of the 15 and I am in the process of weaning off of it now due to how I have been feeling lately. When I first started taking Wellbutrin XL I felt great! My depression was at bay,I had energy, felt good myself, lost 60lbs. Now I have reached a plateau or something, and I feel horrible!I am extremely depressed,do not have any interest in anything I use to do,I have racing thoughts of challenging myself to do things that could harm me, I have no energy,I have gained back at least 40lbs. Im full of anxiety, which i am taking Xanax for. I can cry at any given moment for no reason. These are all side effects I have been feeling since BEFORE my dr started weaning me off. Its only been a month since I started to wean off and I really haven't felt much of an improvement yet. My dr said it may take several weeks before I start to feel any change. I am so frustrated because I just want to feel normal. I feel that this is not a long term "drug" for some people. It is definetly not helping me anymore. If anything it has made me feel worse in the long run. Read More Read Less

After a sever traffic accident, and being in a coma for a month, I was suffering from post tramatic stress symdrome, and was consumed with anger toward the person who, I felt, nearly killed me. I went to a phycologist who diagnosed me with the PTSS, and said that I should see about getting medication for that..I ignored him, and my out look on life was getting worse steadily. My girl friend was beginning to back away from me. I had many and thoughts about ending all of the pain. I was convinced that It wouldn't be hard to do and that would end the mental torment. My girl friend finally talked me into talking to my GP about this condition, and I did. He prescribed Wellbutrin 300xl. Withing a week I felt like a new person. I was still was having the anger issue, but the depression was gone and I wasn't interested in ending it all. This is now 4 years later and wellbutrin is still doing it's thing. I did try others (Ambilify, Cymbalta, Zolof) and they were all horrible. They ruined sex, but the Wellbutrin is a Godsend in that department. I understand that Wellbutrin isn't the same for everyone, but this has been my experience. Read More Read Less

I am a recovered alcoholic/ addict although I have been sober and clean for four years, I was still experiencing depression, lack of motivation and concentration. Felt hopeless, like I would never really be ok. I have been taking wellbutrin xl 300 mg for three weeks and love it. I have not been depressed, it has given me lots of energy, controls my appetite and I quit smoking!! I had tried many antidepressants in the past and they all made me more depressed and very tired, I was constantly sleeping and had no personality, like I was living in a fog. Wellbutrin gives me an overall feeling of well being. I have not had any side effects. I highly recommend trying wellbutrin to see if it works for you. I am so glad that I did!!!Read More Read Less

I started taking wellbutrin XL 300 mg to treat PMDD and after two weeks I took a 6 hr flight and noticed I wasn't craving a cigarette as I normally would have. I then realized wellbutrin was decreasing my desire for nicotine and I quit smoking. Wellbutrin has helped my PMDD and also allowed me to quit smoking, what a bonus!! I would highly recommend it to anyone who desires to quit smoking, it is amazing!!

Initially it was great. Some agiation at first and rapid speech. Experienced weight loss (good) and mood did level out. They said it would not "poop out" over time, but it did. I took higher doseages until I have a few seizures. Now I'm in no mans land. Maybe a smaller dose would do the trick, but the siezures ruled that out. Nothing else seems to work well.

It has worked very well, my fiance says it is like night and day, I am able to manage my depression very well. However, I am on the lowest dose possible and still get all the side effects- constipation, insomnia, head rushes, fast heart beat, but most of all migranes. I have never had such intense headaches in my life, they seem to be getting worse, and happening more often. If I take pain medication they do not go away.

This medication, combined with an ADHD medication, did the trick for me. I have never felt better. The only thing I have to complain about is the generic is NOT the same. I have no issues with taking generic medications, except for this one. I basically felt two bursts of the medication, and nothing was constant. My moods were up and down, and it was like I was paying to be depressed! Other than that, the brand medication is wonderful!

Wellbutrin helped me get my life back. I have BP and had an episode of severe depression that lasted several months last year. Before that, my episodes were manic except for a depressive episode when I was sixteen. The mania is not as severe or as lengthy as it was in my late teens and early/middle twenties so Lamictal alone has been enough to keep me stable at this point. After 10 weeks on Wellbutrin I finally started to crawl out of the dark pit. My current regimine is 300 Lamical at night and 300 Wellbutrin XL in the morning. The Wellbutrin causes ringing in the ears. I don't notice it too much until I sit down at the end of the day to relax (I have two small children). I enjoy reading, but am distracted too much by the ringing to concentrate. I am tolerating it because Wellbutrin has worked so well for my depression. Also, I had been on a generic and my Pharmacy switched to another generic brand and it really messed me up. I was very anxious (I don't suffer normally), confused, dizzy and had a strong metallic taste. My doc said that she's had other similar complaints and recommended switching to the name brand. I did and since then have been back to as close to normal as I'll ever get LOL:) Also, to all those suffering from sleep problems and irritability, do you drink caffeine? I'm very sensitive to it and have been off of it for six years. On occassion I will "splurge" and have a sweet tea or Dr. Pepper at a resturant, but then I'm very jittery, irritable, hyper and VERY chatty. When I finally go to bed (2-3 am) I wake up often which impacts my mood and concentration the next day...vicious cycle, so I stay away from it.Read More Read Less

Wellbutrin was OK. It eased the depression while I was taking it, but the anxiety levels increased for me at times. The medicine also took away my appetite, making me get full faster when I ate.
