Before this medication I was absolutley a mess. I was crying almost everyday, on my days off from work I would lay on the couch and would not get up all day. I had stopped going out with friends, gained over 30 lbs, and overall just didn't care about anything. I decided it was time to take action and as much as I thought, oh this is a phase and I will snap out of it, I realized I couldn't do it on...
My 19 year old daughter starting taking this medication Dec. 18 to treat for clinical depression. On Jan 16, she overdosed on the wellbutrin. Her behavior and mood since she started taking wellbutrin has gone downhill. She survived the overdose but had many seizures. She is now in a psych ward under a 14 day hold.

Have been taking zoloft for about 6 years, psychiatrist added wellbutrin. Started with one per day, two weeks later, increased to two per day. Side effects started on the 3rd day of taking wellbutrin; strange taste in my mouth, headache, increased anxiety. When dosage was increased, depression worsened to include anger, yelling, shaking, constipation, loss of appetite, restlessness. Generally made my depression worse. Stopped taking wellbutrin a week ago and feel 100% better. Wellbutrin did not work for me. Read More Read Less

Decided to give up my life as a chronic alcoholic. Found myself in a state of lethargy but not physically tired - like I was on auto-pilot. Went to work, paid the bills, but in a state of zombie - like a mental lobotomy. Wellbutrin (with xanax that I was already prescribedd for anxiety) has shown positive results. I hate to think that drugs (or alcohol for that matter) are the answer, but clearly, Wellbutrin (buproprion) is an effective adjunct to my transition toward totally clean living. The right doctor, the right attitude, and the right support system (outside the clinical realm) are important. I see Wellbutrin as an excellent mental stabilizer toward the end of dependence, and the transition toward livivng life on life's terms.Read More Read Less

I have a panic attack disorder with depression my doctor added the wellbutrin to my celexa and since the wellbutrin I have been alert, actully cleaning my house, sleeping less, staying focused, haven't had any panic attacks. This combination has helped me so much. . . I am so greatful I thought I'd be stuck were I was forever, I didn't think I could get any better. Before I've tried zoloft, lexapro(not bad), Effexor(awful), I know there has been plenty more, but those are the most resent. I used to need to sleep all day I was so lazy, my house was a total mess, I wasn't being a very good mom. I am doing great now.Read More Read Less

I have been using Welbutrin for 7 years for depression. Treatments over the previous 20 years included Adapin and Prozac, both of which had unpleasant side affects; nonetheless, I stayed on Prozac for 15 years prior to switching to Welbutrin. My overall experience has been good, especially in the beginning. However, after insurance forced me to start using the generic, I have found it to be less effective than the original formula. I'm thinking about going back to brand name even though I have to pay for it. I hope it's the generic formula and not due to tolerance build up that is causing the waning effects.Read More Read Less

added in combination of celexa, I recieved the first real break from deppression, anxiety, and mood changes in my life. No other medication/ ofr combination of medication has worked this well for me ever. I had been experiencing depressive and mof changes since I was a teenager. this combination has been a miracle for me.

Hello there. I have been on the generic brand of Wellbutrin XL 150mg for 6 weeks now, and feel "better" overall (taking med for chronic depression/anxiety) and not having the severe mood swings, nor the usual emotional outburts and crying spells that I used to. I feel more focused and in control...finally getting myself back and able to smile. I have completely stopped smoking cold turkey, which was not initially intended, but a definite benefit. I have not had any side effects, except some weight loss due to appetite control, which is also a welcome benefit. I went up to 300mg after 4 weeks, but found it to make me very irritable, so I came back down to 150mg. After visiting my doctor, we decided to add 10mg of the generic Prozac to my med regimen, since I felt that I was very "indifferent" and not really finding the "joy" in things. Today was the first day on Prozac...felt lots of energy and remain very optimistic. Good luck everyone. You're not alone:)Read More Read Less

I've been on WB for 7 years. I have most of the common side effects..... now i feel depressed again with the side effects. Useless.wondering what will happen when i wean off? I hear alot of controversy regarding generic vs brand name. I think i'm going to ask my Dr. to prescribe the brand name as a last resort before i wean off.

I used the generic for 2 years and then that stopped working. I had to switch to the name brand and my insurance company won't cover the name brand. Name brand worked great just wish my insurance company would pay for it. My dr. said it's common that the generic stops working after a couple of years.

I recently had to stop taking wellbutrin because of some insurance problems. I have been off for about a week and a half. I have an intense headache, nausea, uncomfortable in my own skin. Overall awful. Are these normal withdrawal symptoms? Does anyone have any advice for some kind of relief?

I have been on this med sense 11/09. It has made my problems worse. I have anger issues, I can not think straight. I am crying more and I yell to release the tension I feel. In general I have become a terrible person and I am most deffinitly NOT myself at all on this.

Ive only been taking Wellbutrin for a little over a month. I have horrible anxiety attacks. I do believe it has helped with my moods overall. I dont go from a happy mood to a bad mood at the swing of my head. I know I have a ways to go but I believe that with the combination of Wellbutrin and counseling, I'll be just fine. I don't want to be on medication for a long time so I have to make a committment to myself to continue the counseling after I stop the pill. Being on an antidepressant for most of my life now scares me. Read More Read Less
