Before this medication I was absolutley a mess. I was crying almost everyday, on my days off from work I would lay on the couch and would not get up all day. I had stopped going out with friends, gained over 30 lbs, and overall just didn't care about anything. I decided it was time to take action and as much as I thought, oh this is a phase and I will snap out of it, I realized I couldn't do it on...

My 19 year old daughter starting taking this medication Dec. 18 to treat for clinical depression. On Jan 16, she overdosed on the wellbutrin. Her behavior and mood since she started taking wellbutrin has gone downhill. She survived the overdose but had many seizures. She is now in a psych ward under a 14 day hold.

Dosage is 300mg/day of XL. My first episode of depression was treated with Wellbutrin and the medication was very effective. Went off when planning to become pregnant. Recently returned to using Wellbutrin, orginally at 150mg which wasn't as effective as the 300mg dose. Side effects have included: nausea, weight loss, poor appetite, occasional headaches. Although I initially lost weight due to the depression I now have to really force myself to eat and find myself going hours without food only to feel terrible due to low blood sugar levels. Also noticed some increase in anxiety symptoms. I am considering going back to the 150mg dosage. I discovered that adding SAMe supplements have helped as well.Read More Read Less

Started on the 100mg dose, after 10 days Dr said to up to 200mg, then 10days later to 300mg. After being on the 300mg for about 4 days had a seizure. Will not use again EVER! I did tell about funny feeling symptoms (like talking funny, tingly hands, feeling faint) but was told I needed to adjust to medication.

Typical story...busy mom of 2 fighting mild depression. My "mild" depression includes a general feeling of lethargy, difficulty motivating myself to do simple things, feeling overwhelmed with the thought of completing simple tasks. I was functioning in life but at a lower level. Anyway onto the med review: MD prescribed 100 mg 1x a day and then told to work up to 200 mg 1x a day after a week. First week at 100 mg....tons of headaches, crazy dehydration, wierd flighty feeling, nauseus, lack of appetite. I convinced myself to stick with it at uped my dose. Experienced 4 days of the worst headaches of my life. I had to quit completely b/c I couldn't function. Waited a week and began 100 mg once a day again and this time no headaches, I am sticking with my low dose since it seems to give me the extra lift I need. I don't feel medicated or foggy. The biggest thing to disappear was the feeling of being overwhelmed. I feel like a weight was lifted off my shoulders. As for side effects now...I have a tendency to get dehydrated more quickly when on the meds so I have to really drink alot of water. If I don't hydrate the headaches follow. Initially my appetite completely disappeared. Now it's less but not significantly. This med does seem to reduce cravings in general. I am not a drinker but had a couple drinks (despite my better judgement) on NY's Eve. The next day or 2 I felt like the meds weren't working.....felt lethargic, just down. Definately not worth the drinks of Champagne so I'll abstain 100% for now. I am at a much lower dosage then is prescribed for most people but it works for me. Main con i that I do notice that I can become agitated quicker. I am usually the most laid back person, almost too laid back. So for me it's not a big deal but I wouldn't recommend this med to anyone who has a tendency to anger easily or experiences anxiety.Read More Read Less

I was on it for a year and half but once my doctor took me to 300mg I went from 130lbs to 105lbs. I had to make myseft eat at certain times so my blood surgar would not drop. I had to change medications after that.

I have been using Wellbutrin XL 150 for almost five years with no side effects. I feel so much better on it. I stopped taking it for a brief period and went right back on it. No more crying spells and feeling like there is no reason to get up in the morning. It is wonderful.

I was prescribed wellbutrin XL when I was about 18 for depression and attention problems. I am now 23 and I still love the stuff. Sometimes it just gets me going and after that the rest of my day stays productive. I'd say it helped most with school. I will say it creates panic attacks sometimes if you smoke pot on it.

I was perscribed this medication about a year ago for depression. I noticed a difference in my mood swings after about 10 days. I feel this drug has made a huge difference in my life. It seems to balance my mood swings and keep me from over reacting in stressful situations. I feel so much better than I did a year ago.

I am not surprised to see other people having headaches with this drug. I took the 2 a day version for 5 months before not being able to stand the headaches anymore. I also felt very jittery the first week or so. I recently switched to the extended release medication and my headaches are gone! My doctor said that maybe the large dose twice a day was like a fire that then burned out over & over. I would definitely recommend the extended version of this drug. In the past I had taken zoloft and I did feel great. A little too great. I gained 30 lbs over 6 months and had NO libido. And I couldn't sleep at night to boot! I did love how I felt, but I had to sleep and I didn't want to take a medication to sleep every night on top of the zoloft. I like the welbutrin better for me because it only lessened my symptoms enough to be able to wrap my head around the issues in my life that were completely overwhelming me. It didn't mask the problems as I felt the zoloft did. Only helped me feel like I could compartmentalize them and start to deal with them. Definitely make your doctor give you the extended release!Read More Read Less

I've been on this medication and absolutely love it! I'm on the extended release tablets so I only have to take it 1x day, instead of the usual 2 to get the same dosage. I read some of the other reviews from people who've taken this drug & it's unfortunate there were so many unpleasant experiences.

My granddaughter, who is afflicted with Turner's Syndrom, was born with many broken cromazones, was put on Wellbutrin when she was about 10 years old to control her obsessive/compulsive hyperactive behavior. She began to withdraw from her normal behavior, and her school work regressed to about a 2-3rd grade level. Her memory was affected dramatically. We removed her from the Wellbutrin treatment after we heard similar stories about the effects. She began a slow recovery and is functioning at a high level now. Her ability to know left from right, tell time and several other skills that she had for several years were severely affected and she continues to struggle with some of these issues.Read More Read Less

As a caregiver for my husband, he had a complete lapse of cognitive function and was diagnosed with Early onset Alzheimers. The symptoms were all there, however, we removed him from his Wellbutrin that had been prescribed for depression a year before, and he slowly began to improve. It took several years before he could function again on a level that would seem normal. He continues to have some memory problems, but the onset seemed keyed to his start of the Wellbutrin.

Caused severe migraines!!!!!!!!! *and after finally getting off this med, migraines still occur. I was hospitalized early on from a migraines created by using this drug. **I had no history of migraines before this. needless to say the doctors do not know these symptoms and do not advise you. i had 5 straight weeks of migraines and discontined Welbutrin XL 150 and on the second day after, the migraines stopped! Also i do not feel suicidal all the time, as with effexor use and welbutrin; that was a 100%- 24/7 hobby with the use of these drugs; thinking of suicide and stopped my artistic life style cold. too bad i let them tell me to take this crap for so long. life's situations don't make us always need a pill... to fix us in the mental department. sad the doctors who give us this stuff- do not know what they are really doing. "I LIVED THROUGH tTHIS med" but I am not sure how (same goes for Effexor xr only more so!!) Read More Read Less
