Before this medication I was absolutley a mess. I was crying almost everyday, on my days off from work I would lay on the couch and would not get up all day. I had stopped going out with friends, gained over 30 lbs, and overall just didn't care about anything. I decided it was time to take action and as much as I thought, oh this is a phase and I will snap out of it, I realized I couldn't do it on...

My 19 year old daughter starting taking this medication Dec. 18 to treat for clinical depression. On Jan 16, she overdosed on the wellbutrin. Her behavior and mood since she started taking wellbutrin has gone downhill. She survived the overdose but had many seizures. She is now in a psych ward under a 14 day hold.

First drug to work for me. Wellbutrin gave me energy, I lost a good amount of weight, wasn't sleeping as much. No negative side effects annoying enough to even mention. What I enjoyed the most was not being in the pit. All Ive felt all my life is despair. No drug can make someone happy but this one lifted me up out of the horrible pit and gave me a chance at life.

This drug is doing a great job for me. I have been on it for 12 years. I originally took 150mg once a day; moved up to twice a day but switched to 300mg slow release so I wouldn't forget to take one of the doses. I tried so many different drugs over the past 20 years that I've lost count and the side affects were often horrific. Once my psychologist recommended Wellbutrin and my psychiatrist concurred I have never switched and it is the only anti-depressant I take. I also dropped 20 lbs of the 30 the other drugs had caused me to gain. It has helped with ADD, SAD and the all encompassing symptoms of depression. There have been a few times during the years when I was unable to take it for several days in a row and you could tell but just one dose and I was back up feeling great. I'm sorry it doesn't work for everyone; it has so few uncomfortable side affects when compared to some of the newer drugs. But for those who have found relief I can tell you that after all these years I still have found relief. (My husband calls them my happy pills!) Read More Read Less

At first I experienced slight lightheadedness and dizziness. This all went away in a couple of weeks. I am very pleased at how I am able to function on this drug.

Tried Celexa for a while but its side effects were too severe, I quit taking it. Foggy head, slow thought process, disinterest in sexual relations, minimal positive effects. I am quitting smoking and may be Bipolar so we tried Wellbutrin XL, 150mg. Severely decreases my interest in cigarettes/nicotine. Does not affect my thought processes [after the first week or two], my intimate life, or my sleep [provided i take it in the morning]. I do seem to drop things more often, but that declines as time goes on. I feel normal. It's the perfect medication for me. I recommend discussing it with your doctor to anyone with more than one issue potentially going on, that focuses more on depression than anxiety attacks. [in my case, smoking, depression, potential bipolar, probably ADD] Read More Read Less

I started taking this med (I have never been on these types of meds befor) to help with some issues from interstitial cystitis. At first it was great my brain fog was gone and my energy level was back. But after a month of being on it I started to get irritable and nasty, so my doctor took me off it.

I was sad all the time. Just sad. I had taken prozac for a year and took my self off cold turkey. In that year I gained 15lbs and was starting to get worse.then I did my own resurch and looked up non ssri meds for depression (all ssri meds make you gain weight and want to sleep). I hated the side effects of prozac(sleeping) and the 6 weeks it took to clean out my liver and detox. I then went back to my dr. My depression was soo bad. I asked him about wellbutrin. I started at150 and now week 3 at 300. I'm more cheerfull around my children. I'm having awsome sex again!! Working out, doing my yoga that I love and enjoying everything I missed doing. The only thing that I can say I don't enjoy is the smell of my sweat. Other than that I have high hopes for this medication. Read More Read Less

This medication is awful. It caused me to have severe side affects. I wasn't able to think clearly. Had to be taken off of this medication which put me into a mental health lock-up. I have heard from doctors since that this is a common side affect. How can this drug be on the market? I have never had to be committed to a mental health ward in my life. This drug is scary and I would not recommend it to be taken by anyone. It took over my common sense and my life.

I took wellbutrin for less than a week. I could not control the shaking in my hands. Insomnia was awful, I would wake up between 1am & 3am and not be able to get back to sleep for hours! It never helped with depression or anxiety. I have started Prisiq it it has helped a-lot. I know every medication works differently with every person.

I am A physical therapist and I was in cronic neck and upper bacj pain. It gave me horrible anxiety, palpatations and made me very edgy. It also prevented my from falling asleep which is obviously a problem within itself. I knew my pain was not from my job, posture, or poor ergonomics. Once q went from 300mg to 150mg, most of my upper back pain was abolished. When I quit cold turkey (you can with tis drug unlike SSRI's), my neck pain was abilished!!! In the future when I take in a new patient, I will make sure to see if they are on buproprion. I think this drug should yanked off the market by the FDA! My wife was prescribed it for bipolar, and she became so full of anxiety that she could'nt even concentrate to prepare a typical meal!Read More Read Less

Started these about 2 years ago after being desperate because none of those that act on serotonin had worked for me. Best thing I ever did! I researched it on-line and found the ratio of people praising it to hating it was much more favourable than most other anti-depressants. Problem: I'm in the UK and it is only licensed for giving up smoking. So I have to order it from Europe or USA. I started by taking just a quarter of one 150mg tab and working up to the full dose by day 7. (different for everyone of course) Doing it this way made it much easier on the side-effects which for me were itchy rash on my hand and foot and difficulty getting to sleep maybe a bit of nausea but I found if I ate some food with them it helped -even though my research said it shouldn't affect. I have read that taking a quarter of a tablet and building up gradually to lessen side-effects doesn't work. It really does for me. Bupropion has made me feel completely "normal" I didn't feel like I was on medication at all, until recently. After about a year and half I found I got occasional head pains. Not a headache as such. If I lay down on my front suddenly to watch television or something like that i would get a sharp pressure-like pain. I would keep still or slowly sit up and it would pass. after a few months I gradually started to get a slight hang-over feeling for a few hours most days. without any changes to my diet etc. I don't normally get headaches. My delivery was very delayed recently and I literally ran out. I was very worried what would happen with suddenly stopping (i could not get any from the doctor of course) Nothing happened so I stayed off them for two months. I can now very slightly feel anxiety on waking up that I used to get but only slightly so I decided to start again rather than wait until it gets bad. Today is the first day and I have a bit of that slight tightness in the head feeling. Anyone else had similar?Read More Read Less

At 150 mg my mood improved. After a month doc increased to 300 mg and what a disaster. My heart was racing , felt jittery, and the worst was the insomnia. I slept 2 hours a night before I couldn't take it anymore. I went back to 150 mg but still can't sleep. Right now it's 3:30 am and not sleepy at all. My sadness and crying did go away but I am going to ask for something else b/c of the jitters, heart racing, and insomnia.
