Before this medication I was absolutley a mess. I was crying almost everyday, on my days off from work I would lay on the couch and would not get up all day. I had stopped going out with friends, gained over 30 lbs, and overall just didn't care about anything. I decided it was time to take action and as much as I thought, oh this is a phase and I will snap out of it, I realized I couldn't do it on...

My 19 year old daughter starting taking this medication Dec. 18 to treat for clinical depression. On Jan 16, she overdosed on the wellbutrin. Her behavior and mood since she started taking wellbutrin has gone downhill. She survived the overdose but had many seizures. She is now in a psych ward under a 14 day hold.

Tried using it a couple times in the past 5 yrs either for depression or smoking cessation (and sometimes both). Was on 300mgs XR each time & I managed to stay on it for at least a month (often 2-3) every time, but this stuff just turns me into a lazy sloth no matter what!. Some people seem to be under the impression that its a stimulant but no way (I am actually on add meds so I know the difference): just wait until you've been on it for a full month, then you'll see! You'll see that it's like any other antidepressant in that it turns you into an apathetic zombie only you'll be way less choosy and you'll eat anything in sight. I also found that this stuff DID NOT help my ADD in ANY way, but then again I actually have add for reals and am not just self-diagnosing myself. I believe this could help calm hyperactivity though, so maybe it's good ADHD.Read More Read Less

All I can say is I am SO GLAD I did my OWN research and read about the different types of anti-depressants as I was on Cymbalta and gaining weight like CRAZY and didn't feel any more "happy" or whatever. I asked my doctor about Wellbutrin XL as it is different than a lot of the "common" anit depressants because it effects your brain differently. I felt better on Wellburtin in less than 2 weeks. Yes I got a little "bouncy" and "overly excited" but that's why we're taking these drugs right...TO BE HAPPY AND NOT DEPRESSED!!!! I get out more, I enjoy walking my dog more it's not a "chore" as it used to be. I know there's no "magic pill" but for me it's been great and I've been on it ALL from Prozac to Paxil to Zoloft to Prestique to Cymbalta so I think I know what I'm talking about here!!! I have SAD(Seasonal Affective Disorder)and I have taken both the 300 & 150 mg Wellbutrin XL during the winter months for 8 years. It didn't help me to quit smoking, I did lose a few pounds in the beginning though. After taking for a week or so I start having trouble sleeping at night. I'm wide awake after 4 hours of sleep but it only lasts for a couple of weeks and then I sleep fine. They both make me a little scatter brained but especially the 300mg. It's hard to concentrate. But as far as the depression goes its great. The GENERIC did not work AT ALL! I've had many rounds with my insurance getting them to pay for the name brand but the generic simply did nothing for me. My doctor had to call them and write on the prescription "Name brand medically necessary". Increase thirst is the only side affect. It's easy to wean yourself off of these. I don't recommend quitting cold turkey. Hope this helps someone.Read More Read Less

I recently went through a divorce, I was having issues with anxity and deppresion. I started this drug and it has done wonders! it has helped me to stop smokine, i have lost 30 lbs because I dont want to eat all the time. and it has givin me energy so I have been working out again. I dont dwell on issues any longer like I used to and it has helped me to prioitize what is important. I have more of a level head rather than feeling like every problem was a huge issue. most importanty I laugh again. it has increased my sex drive and I realize the important things in life. I was feeling like being a mother was more of a chore, now I enjoy spending time with my family again. I would recomend this drug to someone that is depressed and or wants to quit smoking. I have had very little side effects. I do get headaches more freakenly but it is much better than what I was feeling prior to being on the drug. Read More Read Less

works very well for me. no problems until the summer heat set in. i am always sweating, cannot stand the heat anymore. i'm always overheated. love the outdoors but must stay in with the a/c cranking. this is proving to be problematic and am thinking of going off until fall. has anyone out there experienced overheating and sweating? this is worse than any hotflashes.

I took 150mg of the generic bupropion HCL XL, once per day in the morning. First thing I noticed on the second day of taking it was that I was unusually short of breath, and my heart started being quickly randomly throughout the day. On the fifth day I woke up with a sore left arm, and the pain spread to the left side of my chest. Developed chest pressure and that continued on for the full 8 days that I took the medication and ended when I went off the medicine. My anxiety also seemed to have increased; I could never calm down and my body always felt heavy. However, the only somewhat positive thing I can mention is that I felt that this medicine kind of woke me up a bit; before I was pretty numb, but I started feeling again. The side effects were enough to make me go off of it within 8 days. I hope to try the name brand Wellbutrin to see if there is an improvement. Read More Read Less

This works. I've always been mildly depressed. When younger, controlled mostly with exercise, bcp's. Finally tried WB 150 XL. Even though I do feel a bit cloudy-headed overall, i don't dwell on problems like before. But feel I can be focused when I need to be. I take when go to bed and I don't have insomnia, nor do I wake up real groggy (which was a problem when I initially tried taking it in the morning). Agree that you MUST stay with name brand, or try "Watson" generic. "Teva" is horrendous though. Ruined one of my vacations when the pharmacy switched me from Watson to Teva and I didn't realize there would be a difference but it was an awful experience. I do prefer name brand though. I don't understand why it has to be so expensive.Read More Read Less
