I began taking Crestor (10 mg) in June. My cholesterol level dropped from 235 to 135 in four months. However, I began experiencing hip and knee pain. It became painful to walk, and the pain was so great I was having difficulty sleeping a night. Aleve and Tylenol Arthritis didn't totally eliminate the pain. Overall, my quality of life has been significantly effected. My doctor also takes Cr...

if this drug is so bad, as all the reviews seem to point too, why is it still on the market and being prescriped? I have used it for 1 week and have no bad symptons yet..

I took Crestor for about 18 months. At first it worked great and my cholesterol number were great. But then every once in a while my legs would cramp and I wouldn't be able to sleep. It started to get worse and worse until I would wake up crying at night so I called my doctor and he said to go off of crestor. I have and I am starting to feel better. No more leg pains or bloody stools, I can sleep again. I am sure it helps some people but when you are the one that have side effects it is really bad.Read More Read Less

I was on Crestor for about 6 months and it did the job, no side effects. My insurance won't cover it, same with other people I know. Now I am on Pravachol. Anyone else have this issue? I was on 10mg of the Crestor and now 40MG of Pravachol - is the dosage the same just different due to the medication? I don't want to take more than I need.

the medication sucessfully lowered my cholesterol level. The side affect of bursitis in my hips and the pain in my joints negated the benefit. I was unable to walk beyond a few feet, unable to sleep, sit or stand for any length of time.

Fantastic results after 4 months on Crestor. Took Lovastatin for 3 years and it did not lower my numbers at all.

After taking Crestor 10mg for 3yrs with only occasional leg cramps, I had a really bad experience with the leg cramps becoming serve. It then moved to foot cramps, & muscle pain in my arms, back, neck,&jaw. Went to Dr who felt it was not the Crestor but a cirrculation problem. I felt like I was having a stroke & had a CAT scan on my brain-negative. Went to cardiologist on as pain was in jaw. Stress test-negative-said heart/cirrculation was fine. Took myself off Crestor 7 days into this and felt better but still have bad days. Cardiologist advised to take Cholestoff-an over-the-counter medication that has all the benefits of a statin and supposedly none of the side-effects and stay off statins! I am certainly going to give it a try. The public needs and has the right to know that alternatives to these potentially dangerous statin drugs exist.Read More Read Less

My dr put me on 10 mg of Crestor to reduce my cholesterol. I took it for a month and stopped taking it. Revisited my dr for severe leg pain, could not walk one morning so I went in to see him. He tested me for Arthritis and blood clots, both negative. It was not until I came to this site to research on my own the side effects of all the meds I was given did I find that Crestor was the probable culprit. Dr has not even called me to discuss the possibility of crestor being the problem. After only 1 week, I could hardly walk, so I stopped taking it on my own. I got some CQ10 after reading some of the reviews. Pain is still intense but subsiding a little. I will follow up with the Dr but I think I will find a new dr who will pay attention to these side affects.Read More Read Less

I have been using Crestor for a 1 1/2 months. I have been experiencing severe cramps in my feet at night to the point the pain wakes me up. I have now developed low back pain. I feel depressed and I am sleeping all the time. But, the worst side effect has been the disturbing dreams I have had since I started using this drug. They are vivid dreams sometimes horrific waking me and leaving me so tired the following day. I have stoppped taking this drug as of today.

Dr. increased dosage from 20mg. to 40 mg. Since this increase i have had swelling of hands and severe leg cramps in calves at night. Unable to sleep due to this. He has the nerve to prescribe 2 other cholesterol drugs on top of this to try to get it under control. I think I won't take the other two. Need a new doctor. I think I'm being over medicated!

this drug should be pulled from the market. I have the lowest dosage possible prescribed to take once a day. I have about 10 out all those severe problems with the drugs as outlined in the side effects section. I have stopped taking the drug.

I am on max dose (40MG)for over 2 years. Initially had problems with muscle aches and dark urine and almost gave up on drug. I added 100mg 2X per day of Co-Q10 (as formula called Q-GEL) and all problems disappeared within a week. Lowering effect on LDL and TriGly has been outstanding and it increased my HDL's

I was prescribed Crestor due to the ineffectiveness of other "statins" and cholesterol lowering meds, ie: Gemfibrozil. Zocor etc. I took Crestor 20mg for 2 weeks, and have suffered severe symptoms such as leg muscle pain, lightheadiness, nausea. I could not walk 3 blocks without the need to sit down due to severe pain in legs, buttocks, shoulders, and feet. I have had chronic pain in my back for years due to a spinal cord injury, and feel the pain has been exacerbated due to taking this medication. I have been prescribed Viagra due to a blood pressure medication, and find this (Viagra) is no longer effective since starting Crestor. It is making me impotent. The Viagra has always worked for me before, but since I started taking Crestor taking Viagra seems moot! The doctor started me on Crestor because the other "statins" were not effective. My numbers weren`t extremely high, but where there is a family history of heart disease, she (DR) decided to use the "big guns" (Crestor). My only hope now is that these current symptoms are not permanent. Had I known the risk, especially the chance of getting a muscle disease from taking Crestor, I would have reconsidered even starting it. Admittedly, I should have asked more questions about the side effects of this med, but being with this doctor for quite a while, and she knowing my medication history, I put my trust in her. My advice to anyone getting ready to start a regimen of Crestor, is to do a lot of research, and not be afraid to ask questions to your doctor. It could save you a lot of grief. In my case, the benefits did not outweigh the side effects of taking this medication. I hope this helps at least one person.Read More Read Less

I was taken by ambulance and was hospitalized because of Crestor. They did continual blood testing, ultrasound, x-rays and the doctors diagnosis was Crestor was gaving me drug induced hepatitis. My liver enzymes were over 700 and the normal is 100. I also could not walk as this drug was affecting all the muscles in my legs. This drug was killing me! I am now considering legal action against this drug to have it banned!

I'm taking a very low dose, that is, 5mg EOD ("Every Other Day"). Within 30 days, my numbers went to perfect, Total Ch. dropped from 230 to 165. Bad chol. dropped to 101; Good Chol. 47. I am taking CoQ10 200mg/da., plus extra 100 mg. with Crestor (EOD). After 50 days, no symptoms. I had very unsuccessful attempt with Zocor (bad sleep, back pain).

easy to take, no muscle pain so far.. slight stomach pain. 5mg lowered my numbers from 370 to 260 in 4 weeks.. I am now on 10 mg and my doctor thinks this will do the trick. I am a 60 year old female who just had a 3 way bypass 2 months ago due to a lifelong history of high cholesterol
