I have tried to quit the Premarin several times since having a complete hysterectomy in my late 40s(I am now 73) The only "side effect" was the misery when I was off of the meds-horrible hot flashes and mood swings which were intense. Needless to say, I went back on and feel fine. I just heard from my insurance that Medicare/supplement ins. will not cover the Premarin. After finding out that it wo...

I refuse to take this drug simply because of the way it is produced. Go on You Tube and watch what is done. This medication comes from pregnant horse urine. The conditions those horses live in is absolutly horrible, as soon as the foal is born it is taken away and the mare is made to keep getting pregnant. Its unbelievable

I took it for 20 yrs.not having a Dr.tell me the risks of stroke, heart problems & gallbladder disease. All three of these things happened to me the most recent was a Stroke on Mar.21,09 at the age of 52.After the stroke I immediately went off Premarin myself.I mentioned it to my gyn & fam.Dr.they both told me to take it for the rest of my life.I saw a cardiologist he asked if anyone had told me to stop taking it due to stroke?I said no but I took myself off of it.Great stay off of it.Always insist your physician explain the risks.I had a hysterectomy at 32 due to cervical cancer. If you must take it do this use it on the worst hot/cold flash days for a week then stop it until the following month.I did this for a short time because I was so miserable but have since learnt to deal with the symptoms.Remember demand answers from your physician/pharmacist weigh the risks and decide it's your health not theirs.I wouldn't want anyone to experience a Stroke like I had.The hot flashes won't cause a stroke & other illness like the premarin.Good luck and God's Blessings to everyone taking it.Use it with extreme caution. It's your health.Read More Read Less

At 37 I had my "female parts" removed. This was a year ago. Premarin is my second experiment with estrogen replacement. I cannot stand these drugs. I have constant nausea, migraines and mood swings. Honestly, I went six months without taking anything and in my opinion was much healthier. Are the benefits these drugs really worth it?

Anyone considering the use of this drug MUST discuss the side effects and your current health conditions. I took this for over two years before stopping...I was never told that I should NOT be taking this drug due to severe vericose veins in my legs and breast cancer in my family! ALWAYS talk to your doctor!!

At 26 I had to have a partial hysterectomy due to a number of reasons, leaving me with only one ovary. Less than a year later, I had to have my ovary removed because I had developed a tumor in my ovary. Before my surgery, my ovary stopped functioning. I had hot flashes, night sweats, and fatigue. I have only been on premarin for 2 weeks, but I immediately felt the results. No hot flashes, no night sweats, and no fatigue. As a mother of 4, with a full time job, this medication was a God send. I have had a few side effects, such as leg pain and headaches, but over the counter pain meds and a heating pad help. I am willing to deal with sore legs and headaches if it means I have the energy to care for my children. I am not concerned with weight gain as this medications seems to have deminished my appetite, and I hit the ground running at 5:00 am everyday. As far as the more serious health concerns, I am fairly young and no longer have any female organs, so they seem to be non-issues at this time. Read More Read Less

I had severe loss of sleep due to frequent night sweats. Daytime hot flashes as well as exhaustion due to interrupted sleep pattern. Premarin worked like a miracle on these, but my periods resumed monthly, sore breasts, and some weight gain. I will continue taking it because I can't function without sleep.

I had a complete hysterectomy at age 30, due to fibroid tumors, ovarian cycsts and adhesions. I have always had problems with my period, either being irregular or very painful and a lot of clots, since as far back as I can remember. My OB started me on Premarin while I was still in the hospital, however I got very ill after returning home and had to go without the pills for a week. It was a very miserable week, I had horrible hot flashes, night sweats, headaches, etc. I could not imagine having to be going through this with out the Premarin. My OB said for someone my age the advantages of taking a estrogen only pill far out way the risks. Since I have no female reproductive organs left I do not have to worry about the increase risk of cancer and for my age that is really the only risk. She said I will probably have to take it until I am around 50 years old then I can reasses. I started out taking .625mg per day, in June of 08 I recentaly went up to 1.25 mg per day due to increasing hot flashes, headaches and discharge. I have gained quite a bit of weight but I dont know if it was from this or the Lyrica that I was put on at the same time.Read More Read Less

I had night hot flashes that would wake me up at 2 a.m., then I would not be able to go back to sleep. The hot flashes would come in the mornings 3 or 4 times in a row. My doctor recommended HRT and in a weeks time I have been sleeping all through the night and haven't had a hot flash in 4 days! Its a miracle!

I had a complete hysterectomy in July, 2008 and started using Premarin immediately. It has helped fairly well with night sweats and moodiness but I have put on at least 20 lbs.

I have been on premarin for 7 years following a complete hysterctomy with no subsequent problems as I know of. I have had numerous bouts with cysts (benign) and recently had a gall bladder attack with my gall bladder being removed w/gall stones included, I now have spasms in my upper stomach, some blurred vision and increased loss of vision, minute loss of hearing, but none of which are caused by this medication at least it was never mentioned at the time of any of my diagnoses. I am 53 years old and my doctor loves to prescribe medication. He feels the quality of life is more significant than the quanity and with a sufficient amount of drugs you can be pain-free for the less time you have to live. I disagree and sometimes do not take my medicines as instructed because I seem to have a new pain every week and I am already taking 4 different medications daily. All of this said, by the information printed above, some of my problems could have stemmed from this medication. Read More Read Less

i have felt great since started taking the premarin, i had some severe problems and was probably not getting the hormones on my own, after my hyster.. then about a month after being on the premarin i developed a rash on my face..it only comes after i use the face cream i have used for years. Has the hyster... changed the chemistry in my body to the point it would make allergic to things i have always used?

I have been on Premarin for 10 years, since my hysterectomy including the removal of my ovaries. I can tell immediately if I have forgotten to take my daily dose because I get hot flashes and feel extremely tired.

I have been on this for probably 25 years after a hysterectomy that left my ovaries. My Dr thought it could help my deppression and it did. I haven't dared go off it but my Dr now is recommending that I do. I am so much older now that I am afraid of how my body will respond to not having it.
