I have tried to quit the Premarin several times since having a complete hysterectomy in my late 40s(I am now 73) The only "side effect" was the misery when I was off of the meds-horrible hot flashes and mood swings which were intense. Needless to say, I went back on and feel fine. I just heard from my insurance that Medicare/supplement ins. will not cover the Premarin. After finding out that it wo...

I refuse to take this drug simply because of the way it is produced. Go on You Tube and watch what is done. This medication comes from pregnant horse urine. The conditions those horses live in is absolutly horrible, as soon as the foal is born it is taken away and the mare is made to keep getting pregnant. Its unbelievable

Premarin has helped me with my mood swings and hot flashes.....however, my hair's falling out!!!! I CAN'T handle this! Is this happening with anyone else? It is a side effect listed in the literature that came with this medicine. I was wondering if anyone knew if "the patch" products caused this? Thanks for any advice!

Premarin caused me to gain 15 pounds and my breasts to grow, even though it helped with hot flashes, I stopped cold turkey after 6 years and I have lost 5 pounds in the first month with no other changes...Premarin makes you a fat dairy cow, I would rather have the hot flashes...treat with peppermint oil and avoid hot drinks and alcohol

I am sorry to say I have had to take Premarin since I was 23 and will turn 65 this month. I had a very large ovarian tumor at 23 and dr found that right ovary was gone. Had appendectomy at 13 so dr thought my right ovary had burst but we did not know it and thought it was appendix.Dad's appendix had burst on him at 12 so didn't know if it was hereditary. Over the years have taken other hormones without success. Have taken 1.25mg for about 30+ years with no side effects. Now have been decreasing and am on 0.625mg. At 65 I still need this boost for my hormones. No one in family had cancer due to taking Premarin. Mother was on hormones until she was 80. Maybe we just had good genes! Nothing else seemed to work for me. I get hot flashes if I'm not on it even at my age. Read More Read Less

Within the first 24 hours of taking a low dose of Premarin, my hot flashes have stopped. I did feel one try to come on this morning and on a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being the worst, it ranked at a "2". I couldn't believe it! I am a teacher and the flashes have really been embarassing the past few years. I will report back in another week. So far, I am already feeling better!

Prior to hysterectomy/oophorectomy my hormones had already been decreasing. After the surgery I had drastic changes in mood, sleeplessness, and everything else BUT hot flashes. Actually, I did have night sweats though. I started on .625 for 2 months and by end of second month I was calling for higher dosage. Now I am taking 1.25 and am seeing improvement in mood which had completely deteriorated. My biggest complaint is the discharge. Dr. said that I could do vinegar/water douche but that has not made any difference. And now the discharge is beginning to get heavier and smelly (yuck). Also still having problem with "v" dryness and itchiness. These are supposed to be eliminated with this drug but mine are still pestering me. Will give it another month or so as this is my 4th month, then going to try a patch. The breast tenderness eventually diminished; no weight gain although I do eat a little better since I am over age 45.Read More Read Less

I am 56 years old and started taking Premarin 13 years ago due to a total hysterectomy. I started with the 1.25 mg and 3 years later changed to the 0.9 dosage. 6 weeks ago my doctor reduced my dosage to the 0.9 five days a week and 0.45 two days a week. The goal is to have me completely on the 0.45 in one year. Premarin has been a miracle drug for me, although I do worry about the risks associated with it. I have never had a problem with weight gain or swelling but I do try and watch what I eat as well as participate in aerobic exercise/running 5 days a week for at least 45 minutes. I can't imagine how I would have felt these past 13 years without it. Read More Read Less

I've been on P .625 for 15 yrs. Decided to take myself off it and give "ICool" a try. But that takes many months to kick in. It helped some. But After 3 months of not sleeping, strip my clothes off hotflashes, my skin starting to sag & V dryness I put myself back on it. I experienced severe depression from it, but it seems to be passing as time goes by. It's good to be back.

Due to cancer, I had a total hysterectomy at 27 years old, cervix and all. Immediately, I experienced extreme hot flashes, sleeplessness, no sex drive and severe mood swings. It was terrible. My doctor prescribed Premarin .625 and after a couple months of little to no relief I almost gave up. Then, it was like something clicked and all of my symptoms went away. My doctor told me it might take a while for my body to adjust and everything to balance and I guess that was true because it wasn't until about 2 months later that I got just about complete relief from my symptoms. I was told that because I'm young my symptoms may be worse, so if that's you, don't give up like I almost did. Keep taking it and after a few months hopefully your body will adjust. I feel back to normal as if nothing ever happened. Read More Read Less
