I have tried to quit the Premarin several times since having a complete hysterectomy in my late 40s(I am now 73) The only "side effect" was the misery when I was off of the meds-horrible hot flashes and mood swings which were intense. Needless to say, I went back on and feel fine. I just heard from my insurance that Medicare/supplement ins. will not cover the Premarin. After finding out that it wo...

I refuse to take this drug simply because of the way it is produced. Go on You Tube and watch what is done. This medication comes from pregnant horse urine. The conditions those horses live in is absolutly horrible, as soon as the foal is born it is taken away and the mare is made to keep getting pregnant. Its unbelievable

Had both ovaries removed Dec 2014 due to severe endometriosis. My doc told me not to take any hormones for 4 months due to my endo possibly returning. After unbelievable hot flashes, mood swings, and anxiety to no end; I was able to get back on Premarin. It was a lifesaver at first but now, after a month of being on it at 0.9mg I have already gained 10 lbs!! I have had no change in any of my diet or exercise. I told my doctor. I dont know what to do. Ive been an athlete for years and this is insane. Please, any suggestions?Read More Read Less

Ladies beware !! I was put on this after having very long periods with heavy bleeding, and after I was taken off of it, I was dx with a brain tumor...also was on birth control for 15+ yrs? thankfully my tumor was benign, but dr feels that any and all estrogen products contribute to the development of meningioma brain tumors !! Take Estroven or some other natural meds NOT ANYTHING WITH ESTROGEN !!!

Have been taking for 20 years. Tried to quit but felt better taking. Now I am losing my hair a lot. Being treated of scalp disorder but now I am having second thoughts. I mentioned the premarin as a possibility for the hair but they all said no. I now will take a more pro active approach

I had a full hysterectomy in 1985 due to endrimitriosis. I began Premarin about three months later and noticed a difference in my abiity to sleep and my mood. I am now 70 and take a .3 mg dose, which seems to work for me. I have energy, mental acuity, and feel good. Of course I don't have a comparison of how I would be without it, but I know I don't want to try!

I am 67 years old and have taken Premarin since I had a complete hysterectomy when I was age 47. My GYN doctor thinks it is fine to take this but my insurance won't cover it either. I tried Estradiol for a few months and was so jumpy and irritable that I didn't even like myself. I decided it was worth paying for the Premarin myself. I live in Michigan close to the Windsor, Ontario border so I researched the cost for purchasing from Canada. I saw a doctor there and had 3 months of Premarin (Brand) filled at the pharmacy for much less than one month cost in the USA. What is wrong with our country that we can't be as competitive in price? Does the US want a bunch of crazy women with bad bones? :) I was also able to purchase some of my other meds there as well for much lower costs. Amazing. Glad we live near the border.Read More Read Less

I simply can't say enough about Premarin! I am finally feeling like myself again after trying so many different hormone medications because of the "hormone scare". Premarin is the ONLY medication that has ever worked for me! Hair is full, skin is soft, and no more brain fog! Love it, Love it, Love it!

Dosage 1.25 - I have been taking Premarin since I was 32 years of age and had a complete hysterectomy. I will be 73 next month. Now my insurance says they will not pay for the drug. I tried an alternative for two months and cannot handle it. I am completely sane and without any hot flashes with Premarin. Without it and on the alternative drug I have continuous hot flashes and do nothing but lay in bed staring at the wall all day because I am so depressed with no reason. I am an author and have always lived a full life but now even my doctor doesn't even want to prescribe this drug. If I was going to get cancer from it, would not it have happened after taking it for 40 years???? Nonsense!Read More Read Less

i have been taking this medication for over thirty years and i have had no ill side affects.with out it i have severe hotflashes which wake me 3-4 time during the night leaving me tired during the day. i transport special needs children and cannot afford to be grogy during the day. my bone density is excellent for my age and i believe the premerin is partly the reasoni realize each person is different and needs to be judged individually. i've been fortunate that is has worked so well for me with no bad affects.Read More Read Less

I had a complete hysterectomy in 2000 at the age of 24. I started out with 1.25 dose for one year, then went to .625mgs for a couple of years, and have now been on .43mgs for about 11 years. I am 48 now, and take this medication every other day, and it is enough for me. The benefits outweight the risk...even though Breastcancer is in my family, I don't feel it would be wise of me at 48 to stop taking this drug. After all, if you no longer have estrogen in your body, I firmly believe this drug helps with all of the side effects you would otherwise have. For me, I am a true believer of the medication... After years of pain from severe endometriosis I had a hysterectomy 2 years ago with one ovary remaining. This past fall I had to have the remaining ovary taken out. On top of the girl issues, I have developed chronic constipation. I had to have a bowl resection because the endo. kinked my bowls. This is a horrible disease and after years of being an athlete and trainer to not be “regular” and all the other side effects of the life change are daunting. I started premarin a month ago and while my mood has gotten better and I’m not as foggy, I still have horrible night sweats, hot and cold flashes as well as poor sleep. I’ve tried taking melatonin to sleep but the night sweats wake me no matter what I take. :( Financially I have to switch from Premarin to Estradoil. I have read reviews for both and they seem similar. I have gained weight but increasing my cardio exercise and really sticking to a 1200 calorie diet has helped. But increase to me is jogging 5 miles or elliptical at level 12 for at least 45 minutes every day. I’m exhausted when I get home and am not fun any more. No sex drive...but my mood is ok. What are the other options out there? Being a personal trainer and going through this is horrible...I can only imagine if you are not exercising regularly how menopause affects folks. To all of my sisters out there...take care of yourself. Exercise and eat right and try what works best for you. Like you all, I’m still searching for that magic to help me through this.Read More Read Less
