I have tried to quit the Premarin several times since having a complete hysterectomy in my late 40s(I am now 73) The only "side effect" was the misery when I was off of the meds-horrible hot flashes and mood swings which were intense. Needless to say, I went back on and feel fine. I just heard from my insurance that Medicare/supplement ins. will not cover the Premarin. After finding out that it wo...

I refuse to take this drug simply because of the way it is produced. Go on You Tube and watch what is done. This medication comes from pregnant horse urine. The conditions those horses live in is absolutly horrible, as soon as the foal is born it is taken away and the mare is made to keep getting pregnant. Its unbelievable

I've been taking Premarin .625 since my full hysterectomy in May 2005. Recently I started to experience shortness of breath and an irregular heartbeat. I am worried that it has to do with taking premarin. I just refilled my monthly prescription, but, am seriously thinking of not taking it anymore. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to stop night sweats in a different, less risky manner? Thanks!

It reduced hormonal migraines, hot flashes, insomnia. On the downside, it increased my appetite and gives me a feeling of ovulating all month long. I have returned to monthly periods on this drug, while without it I had periods about every 3 months.

Complete hysterectomy July of 2007. Night sweats, hot flashes occurring off and on all day, unable to get a good night's sleep. Easily tired form poor sleep pattern. Started with 0.45 and it has helped a bit with hot flashes and sweats, but still have interrupted sleep and numerous hot flashes still during daytime. Consulting treating physician and will report further treatment!

The ovarian failure was due to the depo-provera shot, my ovaries stopped working and my body quit producing estrogen. After two months on premarin 0.9mg, my cycle reappeared.
