I have tried to quit the Premarin several times since having a complete hysterectomy in my late 40s(I am now 73) The only "side effect" was the misery when I was off of the meds-horrible hot flashes and mood swings which were intense. Needless to say, I went back on and feel fine. I just heard from my insurance that Medicare/supplement ins. will not cover the Premarin. After finding out that it wo...

I refuse to take this drug simply because of the way it is produced. Go on You Tube and watch what is done. This medication comes from pregnant horse urine. The conditions those horses live in is absolutly horrible, as soon as the foal is born it is taken away and the mare is made to keep getting pregnant. Its unbelievable

I had a hysterectomy at 35 and had been on Premarin for 30 years with no side effects until about 3 years ago when Kaiser - in it's wisdom - refused to supply it and changed me to Estradiol. Gradually my hair thinned - which I could live with if necessary - but when I developed a goatee my husband envied (and which involved shaving twice a day) and extremely sore, hard breasts (especially the nipples which couldn't be touched without pain), I convinced my doctor to put me on Premarin again. Within 3 days my breast symptoms disappeared although the beard is still there (but seems to be getting less). The Estradiol was costing me $33 for 3 month's supply; the Premarin is $135 but I don't care if it takes care of my symptoms.Read More Read Less

Had to have a total hysterectomy when I was 23 years old. I am now 49 and using Premaring faithfully. If I happen to misses doses for 3-4 I suffer from severe (suicidal) depression. I love this stuff!

Decades ago I began having hot flashes and night sweats. I was first given Estrace and got a mustaches. At some point I started on Premarin and Prempro. A pharmacist told me Provera made his wife "mean. The Provera just didn't "feel right" to me. I am OCD about how I feel. Always searching for symptoms when I take a vitamin or a prescription. Then I started reading negatives about Provera and stopped it and have been on just Premarin for decades. Provera is "poison" said one prominent physician and author of many popular books. I don't want to poison myself so I just take Premarin. Sure, I may be rolling the dice; but I feel well rested and relaxed while doing so. Never stop taking Premarin suddenly. You have to wean off it. I tried in 1988 stopping it and I felt like committing murder. So I re-started it and will continue as long as I can get my wrinkled old hands on it. Read More Read Less

Had a hysterectomy at age 36 after a hemmorage from a c-section. Started have night sweats, hot flashes and severe mood swings. Started taking .625mg and immediately all symptoms disappeared. Dr. said that the hysterectomy should not have caused premature menopause, but had no trouble before. I have been able to loose weight also.

I had a full hysterectomy May 2007, my dr put me on .625 and it has helped immensely with hot flashes, mood swings, night sweats and insomnia. BUT i have put on 20 lbs and am very upset about it. I eat right and exercise regularly, nothing is working. Does anyone know if I lower the dose and try to work through any symptoms that recur, will I lose any of the weight?

I have been on Premarin .625 for 30+ years after a partial hysterectomy at age 31. I have had no side effects, BP on meds at 120/68, weight 122, exercise, tennis, work full time, feel great. New, young, female Dr. wants to take me off because of "possible" side effects. I am very upset. Thoughts? Imput? Help! My life is great right now and I feel "If it's not broke, don't fix it." Would like some feedback. Thanks

This medicine has been a god send for me. I was unable to sleep at night due to night sweats and insomnia and now am sleeping so much better. The hot flashes have subsided almost completely after only about three weeks of HRT. It has been a miracle for me.

i have had a lot of mood swings since I have been on this medicine. I am only on .45 mil. I am thinking of stop taking the medicine. I am also having leg cramps and chest pain. It has not really helped me sleep any better and I am still having hot flashes and night sweats, although not as bad as before.

I had a full hystrectomy 1/2007 and mr Dr put me on Premarin 1.25mg tabs after I complained about severe night sweats that were keeping me up ll night. Now I am to the point to where I think I do not need this medicine any longer and I do not see that Dr anymore. What Iwouldlike to know is,,, what are the side effects if you go off the Premarin cold turkey??? This medicine has mad me gain weight even thought I watch what I eat and exercise,, VERY DEPRESSING !!!!!

I have been on Premarin for about a year. After my hysterectomy, I had awful hot flashes all day and night. As a result, I was awakened about 12 to 14 times a night and was unable to sleep. I was completely exhausted. This drug has allowed my life to get back to normal. It has eliminated all hot flashes and I sleep all night again. I am currently taking .625 and, because of all the controversy with HRT, on my next doctor visit, I think I will try the lower dose.

The Premarin/Prempro combo has helped with night sweats and insomnia. It has not helped to deter my irregular periods.

I had a hysterectomy at 37 but left the ovaries and they quit working 3 years later. Premarin stopped the hot flashes, weakness, sweating, shaking, & exhaustion within 2 days. Have taken it for 20 years with no problems. Because of health scares, tried to lower dose to .625 but got severe symptoms again & returned to .9 Health scare bugs my doctor, she says she gets conflicting reports constantly & just lets me choose whether I want to stay on it. I look really young still, dont know if the years of estrogen have anything to do with it.Read More Read Less
