Unlike many of the other commenters, I am not a new mom. I began having peri-menopausal symptoms and was prescribed Yaz. My blood pressure got too high to continue and I switched to Jolivette. Since starting it more than a year ago, I have fewer mood swings and more regular periods. They are not regular--just more regular than they were due to perimenopause! I have noticed an increase in break-ou...
I was not told to use another form of birth control once I was not breastfeeding "full time" (which I later found out this pill is only effective when nursing "full time")My husband and I got pregnant while on this pill and me still nursing my son. I have been on this bc for about 5 months now, and since then it has absolutely made me go crazy. I've been having crazy mood swings, being extremely angry, upset or crying over literally NOTHING or being extremely depressed, irritable, and at times suicidal. At first, I thought it was just depression I was dealing with, but turns out its this pill that is making me crazy! I bleed non stop, I can wake up and have cramps and start to have my period, but by that night I'm done bleeding. Then the cycle starts the next day. If I am lucky and get a break, then MAYBE I will have 1-5 days with no bleeding, then BAM full on period again. I have worse acne (probably because I'm always on my period!), I've had minor nausea/dizziness. I've finally gotten an appointment to change my bc and I can't wait to stop taking this pill and become normal again. I can't take these mood swings anymore.Read More Read Less

This is the best bc i have ever taken since I stop getting depo shot years ago. The best part is I do not get monthly cycles. I may have spotted maybe once or twice cant even recall when. I have no side effects. Love it. Base on other negative comments, I would say try and if it works for you great if not try something esle. Everybody reacts differently.

I was given this pill after I had my second child and was breastfeeding. The first month was ok but the following month I began to have a period every 2 weeks. It also affected my appetite in that I was always starving even an hour or so after my last meal. I could never get full or have enough good. Being overweight already and with 2 periods a month was just too much for me. The only good thing is that I did not get pregnant while on it even though I missed a pill here and there. After I was through breastfeeding I switched immediately.Read More Read Less

Short and sweet, I caused me to get a blood clot at age 17. I'm 21 and still have it. I've had to take horrible shots and I think it has contributed to some anxiety attacks.

After being on many different kinds of birth control pills, I was finally put on Jolivette, because of my migraines. Since I started taking Jolivette, I stopped having migraines, my digestive issues sorted themselves out, and I haven't had to deal with a period. It's pretty much the most amazing pill I've ever taken. I really couldn't be happier with it. I never gained or lost any weight because of it, and it makes me feel normal. I highly recommend at least TRYING Jolivette. I know it's different for everyone, but it really works for me.Read More Read Less

I have always been sensitive to birth control. Ive had to switch several times in order to find one that worked. This is yet another one that I will stop taking. At any given moment I either want to cry or scream. My mood swings have been HORRIBLE, i am incredilby irritable and i am always a happy person. I've gained 5lbs in the first 3 weeks of taking it. I know everyone reacts differently, but after reading reviews of other women i believe this birth control overall is just horrible.

I have been on this for almost a year now, and gained 25 pounds, which has been a very difficult task (and weight loss has never been hard for me). The medicine I believe caused my hypothyroidism and a long range of problems from feeling tired all of the time, constantly dry skin/scalp, large amounts of hair (good thing I have thick hair), no sex drive, periods were never constant so you are constantly taking a pregnancy test. And the one thing I can't stand: BLOATING. I went from 200LBS TO 167, AND because I'm SO bloated from this, I constantly have to adjust my belt to make it tighter than looser for no reason. Doctor said it was the birth control for ALL the sym and is switching me to Yaz which is supposed to help with bloating and the reviews say people have LOST weight. I'm almost better not being on birth control. Definitely would not recommend anyone to take this, as you will certainly regret it.Read More Read Less

My regular BC pill was replaced by this one in January. Close to the same time, I was diagnosed with Hypothyroidism. Despite being on thyroid meds for nearly six months and having satisfactory labs with every check up, I have continued to gain weight at an alarming weight. I wasn't a small woman to begin with, but gaining 50 lbs in less than a year with no significant change in diet and or exercise?!! That's insane. Also, shortly after January, I began to have itchy sores on my scalp. They were so itchy I would scratch them until they bled, which also resulted in hair loss. The Docs said it was seborrhic dermatitis, but despite 2 different prescriptions and every scalp/dandruff shampoo on the market, it just got worse. I searched the internet for months about my symptoms and came up empty. It wasn't until I briefly stopped taking my BC pills that the scabs began to subside. Everything was great until I started taking Jolivette again. That was a few weeks ago. Now my scalp is worse than ever, with sticky residue despite daily shampoos. It wasn't until today that I finally put it all together and realized that Jolivette is causing all of these problems!!! AVOID THIS DRUG AT ALL COSTS! I have never had any issues with acne or scalp oiliness, but this drug has made my life miserable for the past six months! The whole time, I suspected it was a result of the hypothyroidism or a side effect of the thyroid medication, since that was the only significant change in my health in the last 12 months. If you do take this pill, I would suggest that you keep an eye out for any changes to your health, however minor, and discuss them with your doctor.Read More Read Less

I gained 25 pounds while on the POP after I found out, I couldn't handle estrogen birth control, and what makes it worse, I won't ever have to worry about getting pregnant. Can't get pregnant if you have no sex drive! I think I would rather deal with the estrogen crap...

I was taking this for almost two months and started to have severe diarrea and swelling of my ankles and feet. I immediately stopped taking this and have not had any negative symptoms since. I was prescribed this because I had a baby and am breast feeding. We're going to go with condoms until I stop breast feeding.

Like many others, I can no longer take normal birth control pills due to migraines with aura, so my doc switched me from Yaz (which was actually great for me) to Jolivette. The good news is that I didn't get pregnant in the 6 months I was on it. The bad news is that my skin looks the worst it's ever looked--huge, painful are currently covering my face. I also get about 5 days per month without bleeding. Not only do I get a full period biweekly, but it comes with all of the cramps/bloating/mood swings/acne and everything else bad about periods. I took my last pill yesterday. Never again. Read More Read Less

I am writing this review to encourage women to at least try this method of birth control. I cannot take pills with estrogen due to migraines. I have not had a child and am not breastfeeding. I have just finished my first pack and have had no problems. I spotted a bit in between periods but that has happened in the past before starting this birth control. I have gained no weight, I've had no moods swings, and my apetite is the same. I have noticed some light cramping randomly, but nothing unbearable. Overal I recommend this medication. Please do not decide to not take this medication due to negative reviews. These reviews almost stopped me from taking this medication and I am glad I tried it. Each one of us reacts differently to a medication. Your doctor is not going to prescribe you something that they think will harm you, and if they do then please go to a doctor you trust. I never realized til reading these many reviews of this pill what has happened to me. I used to be such a happy calm person and ever since being on this pill, I have become deeply depressed, angry, tense, and at times suicidal. I am scared of myself at times because this is NOT me...

I was prescribed this medication after having my child so that I could safely breast feed him while on birthcontrol. It worked for me for 12.5mos and then I got pregnant. This medication works if taken as prescribed, just remember that it's only 97% effective and that if your intention is to delay conception, you may want to explore other options.

I have been on Jolivette for 11 years. I never gained weight, my skin is clear, and my hair is unaffected. My periods are occasionally irregular. I have a routine driven schedule, so the timing of the dosage has never been problematic. Pills with estrogen cause weight gain, acne, carpal tunnel syndrome symptoms, and extreme mood swings for me. Each person is different!
